Civilization Revolution dawning as the Xbox Windows Phone Deal of the Week

We haven’t received word on this week’s Xbox Windows Phone release just yet, but the Deal of the Week seems to have popped up for some people already. Prepare for some good news: Civilization Revolution from 2K Games is the new sale title, marked down from $2.99 to $1.99.

In the Civilization games, players start at the dawn of humanity and lead their civilization through the ages, including modern times and even the future. You’ll need to gather resources, build new cities, research technologies, and either war against or form alliances with neighboring countries. You can choose from 16 different nations to play with as you strive to achieve one of four possible victory conditions: Technology, Economic, Cultural, and Domination (war).

The Windows Phone version of Civilization Revolution isn’t much of a looker; it’s a port of the 2009 iOS version, after all. But despite what the media would have you believe, looks are not everything. Civ Rev still packs countless hours of strategic goodness. The game world is always randomly generated, so your starting experience will often be different from one game to the next. Then the vast amount of technologies to research and multiple ways to win the game provide even more possibilities. Will you take out your opponents by force, outsmart them, or both?

There aren’t a ton of strategy games in the WP7 Xbox lineup: just this, Fusion: Sentient, and Extraction: Project Outbreak. Of those games, Civ Rev is easily the best, making it one of my favorite games on the platform. Check out our full review for more details.

Civilization Revolution will be on sale for $1.99 for one week only starting on Wednesday. While the Deal of the Week shows up early for some people, it might not appear for others until Thursday, so keep checking. You can get the game here at the Windows Phone store.

  • I actually enjoy this game... looking forward to getting it on my 920 :)
FYI - you have "marked down from $2.99 from $1.99."  Shouldn't it read " marked down from $2.99 to $1.99."?
  • Thanks for catching that. :) I've been up all night so my proofreading skills are slipping.
  • No sweat, Paul.  Its not like you guys haven't had a bunch of stuff hitting the news stands recently!  :)
  • Awesome!
  • Great game. Easily worth full price.
  • Achievements. Any glitches? How hard ? How long ?
  • That's what the review is for. You know we always discuss Achioevements in our Xbox reviews. But to answer your question, they're easy and will take 4-8 hours if you use the optimum strategy.
  • Civilization is amazing. You should NOT be playing this for achievements.
  • @Paul Thanks
@snarky hey that's your opinion and I have mine. There is a lot of people that are achievement hawks. That's the only reason I switched to windows phones was to get achievements on the go.
  • Don't get me wrong, I'm not getting at you for wanting achievements as I myself am a self proclaimed achievement whore (currently at around 84,000 G), I was merely stating that this is one of the few games that I would highly recommend you enjoy for it's entertainment value as opposed to achievement value. Though I imagine those two will go hand in hand as you become addicted to it :)
  • Cheevos are per leader. Just win as all of them
  • Can't recommend this game enough. Probably my most played WP game. Such great replayability.
  • Buying this!!! thanks for the heads up!!! :)
  • Glad the deals are still coming. Can't stand these types of games though. Mabye next week for me.
  • Just about picked this up a few days ago. Realized I hadnt played one of the easiest Windows Phone games for achievements. I am not a strategy fan at all, but will enjoy this title I am sure. Thanks for the heads up! Purchased!
  • Verizon HTC Trophy FTW!
