CD Projekt Red previously shared that Cyberpunk 2077 had gone gold on October 5, meaning development for the printed disc version of the game had finished. As CD Projekt Red explains in their announcement of the delay, this doesn't mean development has stopped entirely. Rather, the team is now working on the first patch that is meant to fix more bugs and improve the overall quality of the game.

It's looking to be a massive game, with a long list of gangs to take on, vehicles to acquire and all of it set in a world that is shaped by your choices and Lifepath.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be available on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia. It's getting a next-generation update for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5 sometime in 2021.

  • That's a big bummer. So close to the release date! I was looking forward playing this game on my Series X. I guess I'll wait playing Gears Tactics then.
  • I did my first pre-order of my life and it gets a delay... I'm very mad
  • Noooooooo!!!! Oh well, more time to clear the backlog!
  • How do we know this game is even coming out at all? How do we know it's not just some elaborate hoax to give gamers something to be excited about while in quarantine?
  • The game has already been shipped on discs so the conspiracy doesn't exist
  • Of course it's coming, there's even a limited edition XB1X console for CyberPunk 2077. It's just the normal delays with big game projects. This is a side effect of the social media and information age where everyone knows everything. In the past, a few weeks of delay was unnoticed by the majority of the audience. But in the twitter age, you are practically developing the games alongside the developers and every single project slip gets this huge backlash. It will come eventually, and we will enjoy it (hopefully!).
  • Pre-ordered AC today. Guess I can wait.
  • I read some of the comments on their Twitter feed. People are angry at CDPR for this. "I'm never buying another game from CDPR!" Wow. Disappointed, I get. Maybe even frustrated. I'm sure this also robs some trust on their future schedule commitments (including skepticism on the new Dec 10 date). But angry? CDPR is taking a financial hit to ensure a better game. I'm sad by this -- I was planning to play this over Thanksgiving, but mostly I feel bad for CDPR over the hate people are sending their way. I can also imagine the meetings before this announcement. You know this was absolutely the last thing they wanted to do. I've had to admit mistakes to the market before with last minute delays for a product where we uncovered some problems right before launch. It sucks. So to offset the hate: CDPR, I still love you. The Witcher 3 was the best game I've ever played. I have full faith that Cyberpunk will be equally great in its setting. Thank you for making the hard choices to ensure a great game.
  • Many of the most vocal gamers are just whiny children - some figurately and some literally. You know that those people complaining the loudest about this would also have been the ones complaining the loudest if the game had shipped with significant issues. They're just entitled babies.
  • And this, folks, is why you shouldn't announce a release date until the game is gold, Remedy know this, maybe other developers should follow suit. Not fussed though, my backlog is huge. That being said if they keep this up this game is going to get panned by critics for historical inaccuracies.
  • Unfortunately this wouldn't have saved this one. Remember the game went Gold already. I guess at least this would have been the first delay after annoying the day if that were the case.
  • Wow, stupid spell check. Announcing the release date*
  • They really ought to introduce a feature to human beings where we can read our own posts before submitting to make sure they say what we meant them to say. That would be really helpful. ;-)
  • Yeah, I just need something to stop myself from hitting the submit button before reading what I just typed. 😜
  • If you find a device that allows a person to do this I'll buy it.
