Full changelog for Windows 10 Mobile 10586.164 reveals many small improvements

Microsoft has now published the full changelog to the Windows 10 Mobile released earlier today. Build 10586.164 is going out to those on the Insider Slow and Production Rings.

In addition, Windows 10 Mobile devices like the Lumia 650, Lumia 550, and unlocked Lumia 950 and 950 XL (e.g. non-AT&T) devices are also getting the update.

Here is what's new in build 10586.164:

Key improvements in this release

  • Improvements for the reliability of app notifications, including text messages and alarms not ringing as scheduled.
  • Improvements for text message backup to reduce data and battery usage.
  • Fixes for Microsoft Edge with address bar suggestions showing late or persisting during navigation, "Close all tabs" not closing all tabs, and Word Flow on the address bar not functioning as expected.
  • Fix for a problem where the Microsoft account was not detected by the Outlook Mail, Outlook Calendar and People app. Attempting to add a new contact in this state caused the People app to crash for some users.
  • Fix for a problem that caused the Wi-Fi connection to temporarily switch off after prolonged use for some users.
  • Fix for a problem that caused first-party app updates to fail to install successfully for some users, leaving the apps in state where they cannot be launched.
  • Improvements for battery usage, Bluetooth connectivity, and OS reliability.

Overall, those are some significant updates despite the earlier mention of minor differences between the last .122 build and this current one.

Let us know in comments what you think of the update.

  • I'm not on and ring on my 950XL but I'm still getting it.... Is that normal?
  • Sorry my bad just read the rest
  • Normal W10 simply rocks!
  • Ok lol
  • Isn't it weird that multiple updates said that they fixed alarms reliability, and Edge fixed the close all tabs function, yet each new build says that this is fixed again?
  • On .122 they said it was "improved", not fixed.
  • Why not AT&T?
  • because it's on the insider slow and preview rings.... not a full public release yet.
  • I got .164 on my normal non-insider unlocked 950XL just today
  • ditto here
  • was it successful?
  • Here as well
  • Does anyone know if the visual voicemail issue has been fixed for unlocked 950 and 950XL phones on AT&T? My wife and I are still using spoofed IMEI #s as recommended on the forum long ago when the phones were first being sold. I'm wondering if those IMEI numbers are causing issues now.
  • I don't think the spoofed IME is the issue. The threshold build does not have visual voicemail in older builds (anything besides insider fast) for dual sim phones. For single sim, it should have it.
  • This update is greatly needed, we need these kinda updates at least once a week, and I greatly appreciate it..
Plus the update to the WC app today (which crashes' far less).. The entire experience is improving.... Via WC For WM10 ☣

  • Have you use the 950XL? Just got one. The features outweigh the 1520.
  • yeah, my non-Insider Lumia 950 (Italy CV) is getting it too...
wonder if any other variants also get it...
  • Bluetooth updates are always welcome
  • They most certainly are! :)
  • +950xl
  • Has anyone in UK got it yet? Sent from Lumia 950
  • Yes
  • I font know. Try to again join the slow ring on your phone.
  • I got it on unlocked 950xl.
  • Yes..downloaded and installed on my L550. Thank god Wi-Fi issue is fixed in this build
  • I thought the same thing when installing the update on my Lumia 950 yesterday. Unfortunately, I've seen the same problem twice since then, having to reboot both times to get WiFi to see any networks again. Posted from Windows Central for Windows 10
  • Yes, on my 930.
  • Yeah, a notification just popped up. Will install overnight.
  • Yes, installed tonight. Not touched the insider program since I got my 950 back in December (was sick of the builds being so buggy on my 920 so played it safe), so it will come to you soon I'm sure.
  • Just arrived on my 950XL (EE).
  • Yes, 950XL
  • Yes, notification for restart to install on unlocked 950XL this afternoon...
  • 950XL still randomly reboots.
  • Utterly unacceptable.
  • Its about once a day, sometimes twice. Often i dont notice, only when i come back and windows hello says 'your device rebooted, enter pin', but sometimes i will see it happen, usually if i am using whatsapp then hit the home key several times (dont know why, but i do that). FYI the iris scanner is utterly pointless, slower than entering your pin and rarely are you ever in a situation where you could hold your phone in front of your face. And buttons on the screen are frustrating and too easy to hit by accident. Sometimes they are there, sometimes you have to slide up for them. Pointless on a flagship.
  • Do you have an SD card inserted? Some people have suggested this could be a cause and that when they remove it the reboots stop. I know it's not a solution, but worth trying. I haven't had the random reboots for quite a while with my L950. Sent from Microsoft Band
  • Only ever had it happen on my 950 when an app falls into a major crash. Though I daresay that isn't exactly 'random'.
  • No SD card inserted. Whatsapp could account for it mostly when using it, although i think facebook messenger has caused it a few times. Thats pretty much all i have installed that doesnt come preinstalled except for windows central. But an app crash wouldnt account for the times it happens when im not using it.
  • HarkAtYou, FWIW, my 950xl has not rebooted like that I'm aware of. You don't have to"hold the phone in front of your face". But you do have to have it pointing the camera at it. I was having some trouble with it at first, but then I noticed my reflection in the black mirror like glass. It wasn't pointing at me. Once I noticed that, I started looking for my reflection and making sure that my right eye appeared to be over the camera. Now it sees me almost every time and recognizes me almost as quickly as I can decide what I want to when it shows the start screen. I never have trouble with the soft buttons.
  • Troll alert!!!
  • Plot twist: Changaizee is the troll
  • No random reboots on my 950 XL. Your problem must be due to something you have installed it configured.
  • My 1520 will randomly reboot ONLY when I use the Microsoft Camera, but it doesn't happen all the time. Hopefully .164 will no longer have this issue! Posted From Windows Central for Windows 10 Mobile on Lumia 1520
  • My 930 got it on the slow ring
  • is there a benefit to hard resetting a 10.0.14267.1004 insider build to pick up this build?
  • You'd need to roll back, not just hard reset if you're on 14267. And yes, this is likely much more stable.
  • They should really merge the developments to the other branch, release this one and start working only on redstone.
  • Not going to happen. I expect that this 10586 branch will get updates until at least 4 months after RS release.
  • I didn't realize there is an option to roll back on mobile. I thought the only route was with WDRT once on Redstone branch. Where is the rollback option?
  • The rollback option is always WDRT.
  • Hey Daniel, it worked! Did the roll back and reset and now i'm updating to .164! Thanks!
  • Loving the new wpcentreal app Henry Miller
  • im thinking abt the same thing, but i like the new features, so i might wait for the next redstone build, new features to come for sure.
  • May I ask you why did you update to Redstone if they only thing you wanted was bug fixes?
  • I went back. Had major stability problems with my 950xl on the latest fast ring build, so back to production builds. I'm missing some of the 14267 benefits, but couldn't handle the freeze ups. I'll be excited to get back to it again in the future though.
  • "Fixes for Microsoft Edge with address bar suggestions showing late or persisting during navigation", FINALLY!!!!
  • Glad to see that too. This looks like a nice little update - I've never had the missing Text Notifications or Alarms on any of my devices (Including older devices) - Good job as I'd have been pretty annoyed if that happened on my 950, which isn't on Insider Builds. Sent from Microsoft Band
  • I don't trust this being listed. As you can see, they list the same bug as being fixed more than once in each new build!
  • No, they don't. They never before said it was fixed, they just said it was improved and that was on the last insider build.
  • Well, it's workin fine till now. Think that's it.
  • This was fixed for me last build
  • Yeah me too
  • Finally! When I get this update I hope this is indeed fixed. I'm pretty annoyed with this bug since I got this W10M. We need more bug fix updates at least! Also some polish to UI too if possible. Sent from Windows 95
  • I know the feeling I been waiting on that. Henry Miller

  • If I live in the US I would never buy a carrier phone. I prefer to spend a bunch of money with an unlocked phone. Posted from Windows Central for Windows 10
  • More that subsidies are gone there is really no point buying carrier phones off you can afford the one time expense
  • I couldn't agree more.
  • Carrier phones are more buggy than unlocked phones in my opinion..
  • Seems the proper official release is very close with probably one more insider release. The previous release to this was very stable with just app problems, particularly Edge browser been the problem
  • Maybe for the 50 series but not for the older phones like the 930 where some users have alot of problems
  • What problems? On my 930 it works just fine.
  • ALOT of people have huge problems with the 930. You can't record any sound, bad picture/Video quality, random freezes and reboots, apps keeps crashing and the sensor core (name?) that's record's how many steps you have taken don't work
  • sound recorder works for me, pictures are amazing, so is the video, no random freezes or reboot, also beside a Rummi (this crashes even on PC) game my apps don`t crash, no clue about the steps sensors since I don`t care how many steps I make to use this function.
  • Some have the problems, some not. But it's seems like the majority of all 930 users have problems whit the 930 and windows 10. With windows 8/8.1 it all works just fine but not with win10. If you read on the internet you will se how many that have this problem. You are lucky
  • Since phones are closed hardware i doubt i`m really that lucky, it might just be a hard reset issue or i don`t know...  Only issue i had was screen going black when i was making calls, like i already had the phone to my ear, it turned out to be a little flexing of the screen (probably the adhesive was loose) around the sensor area, put a drop of superglue there to put the screen in place and no more issues.   My firmware is: 02540.00019.15234.50004 if it matters
  • Well, I can record sound but the sound that my phone record is sooooo low. If I shout every word I say I maybe can hear something if I listen very carefully. I will se what my firmware is brb
  • hmmm, something similar I had with MyTube, the App had very low volume, reinstalled the app and now everything is fine, since Voice Recorder you can`t simply uninstall you should try a 3rd party app if there is any.
  • Won't work. Have tested Everything!! Soft reset, hard reset, rolling back to 8,1 and back to win 10. We don't have the same firmware. My ends with .26004. Os build is .164
  • Rolled back to 8,1 yesterday and everything was smoth and working. The picture quality was awesome and I was able to record sound to. Now I am on Windows 10 again and all problems are back....
  • Just wait for the release, they said that they will be pushing firmware updates with it from what I understood.
  • You read my mind on that one.
  • The majority of the things you listed will probably require a firmware upgrade to fix. The Lumia 830 also has issues with screen blinking, screen tearing, and issues saving 'Rich Capture' photos. All of which will require a firmware upgrade to fix.
  • 1020 too
  • Are people on the Redstone build able to move straight over to this? Or would they need to roll back?
  • You have to rollback.
  • Ok, thank you.
  • Please roll back and go to this .164 build, since your effort put into doing that would inevitably trigger MS to then release a new Redstone build with all of these fixes for the rest of us.  Come on, take one for the team.
  • Hi Daniel, my 950 XL also needs a rollback to get the latest insider update. How do I do a roll back and to what?
  • How do we roll back? I thought WDRT is the only option once on Redstone branch.
  • WDRT is always the way to roll back.
  • You would need to roll back.
  • If and when they release this to older phones they will probably freeze this branch and merge the fiexes to the redstone build and start deploying only redstone builds. Let's hope sooner rather than later.
  • Nothing else would make sense Posted from WC 920, 1520, 920, 635, 640 950XL
