Will this incredible RPG actually get a DLC expansion after all? As Capcom celebrates its 2-year anniversary, fans believe it's being teased — here's what they found

It's been just over two years since Capcom's popular open-world fantasy RPG Dragon's Dogma 2 released across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5, but aside from a few small additions and updates centered around fixing bugs and improving performance, nothing major has come to the sequel since then.

Many have been hopeful for a DLC, but there's been no official word of an expansion from the developers yet — though one hasn't been ruled out, either. Now, however, fans believe they've found evidence that a DLC is indeed on the way. And after seeing it for myself, I've gotta say: it's pretty compelling.

It's not the only piece of evidence, though. Another is that in the background of the scene, you can see a Beastren wearing wintry garb walking out of the party. As many have pointed out, both his braided hairstyle and his choice of clothing aren't currently available or seen in any part of base Dragon's Dogma 2.

On top of that, he's surrounded in a subtle blue glow, and is also the only character in the image that isn't facing the camera. Clearly, Capcom's artists wanted him to stand out in the crowd of NPCs, and stand out he does.

Could this Beastren be a new character from this northern region of Organ? It's impossible to say for sure, obviously, but given that the north tends to be cold and he's got heavy fur clothing as well as a unique hairstyle, it's very possible.

I suppose it's also possible that this picture isn't actually teasing DLC at all, and that everyone who thinks it is is high on hopium. But you know what? I'm shamelessly hopemaxxing, and so are countless fans across the Dragon's Dogma subreddit and the wide web beyond.

Despite performance issues, lacking enemy variety, and friction-heavy systems that controversially limited handholding to an extreme degree (that's something I love, personally), I believe Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the best new RPGs we've gotten in years, complete with immensely rewarding exploration, stellar physics-driven, Monster Hunter-style combat, and quest design that greatly rewards paying attention to and deeply engaging with its world.

Yes, it's weird — and not always in a good way, either. For me, though, its highest highs far outweigh the lowest lows, and I'd love to have a reason to dive back into Capcom's world. A brand new adventure set in a brand new region would be a great one.

🗨️ Are you a Dragon's Dogma 2 fan?

Capcom's open-world fantasy RPG Dragon's Dogma 2 is a bit divisive, especially with how unforgiving some of its design choices are (fast travel requires very rare items, saving is extremely limited, and, uh, Dragonsplague, among other things). Still, I love it, and I would absolutely love to see it get a DLC.

How about you? Are you a fan of the game? Would you like to see it get a DLC expansion? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to vote in our poll:
