What you need to know

  • Gears 5 launches in September on Xbox One and PC.
  • The game eliminates the season pass and loot crates.
  • You can watch two trailers which detail the game's map builder and Escape mode.
  • You can preorder Gears 5 for $50 on Amazon.

Gears 5 is an upcoming third-person shooter which picks up after the events of Gears of War 4. The story focuses on Kait Diaz's connection to the subterranean Locust as she embarks on a new quest to understand the events of the prequel.

In an effort to provide more details about the various modes in Gears 5, developer The Coalition enlisted the help of strong-voiced Victor Hoffman. The hilarious video details what to expect from the map builder and how to use it properly. The fact that the game has this feature should make multiplayer a varied experience.

The Coalition also released a hilarious new video detailing the game's Escape mode. As the name suggests, you have to find your way out of a confined space before the bomb you planted goes off. Unfortunately, you only have a couple of minutes to do so.

Gears 5 releases on September 10. If you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or preorder the Ultimate Edition of the game, you can play it four days early on September 6. Additionally, Xbox One X owners are in for a treat because the title runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in the campaign and multiplayer.
