Minecraft is getting the 4K treatment on Xbox One X

There are plenty of big name titles getting the 4K treatment with the arrival of the new Xbox One X, but probably no one title is bigger than Minecraft. This fall, Minecraft will receive a 4K upgrade in the form of the appropriately named Super Duper Graphics Pack.

Though Minecraft is known for its relatively rudimentary look and feel, the move to 4K textures looks pretty stellar judging by the trailer. There's no firm release date available for the Super Duper Graphics Pack just yet, but Xbox One X and presumably Windows 10 users should look forward to it landing this fall.

The visual upgrade also comes alongside news that Minecraft is getting true cross-platform play across Xbox, Mobile, and Windows 10 later this year.

  • My son was watching the E3 stream with me and it's already marked down for Christmas.
  • Could someone enlighten me as to what is the point of 4K in Minecraft, which looks like ZX Specturm 80's game? I thought the whole point and novelty of Minecraft is that is looks dated. Shouldn't 800x400 be enough for Minecraft?
  • There's not enough time to explain textures to you, but in short, no.
