The Surge became a sleeper hit with its 2017 launch on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, largely by merging Dark Souls-like combat with greater accessibility. Now, publisher Focus Home Interactive is preparing to launch the game's follow-up, and it took to Gamescom to show off the first bits of gameplay. And things are just as brutal.
At just under a minute, the trailer shows off more of what fans came to love from the first game, with a mix of hectic combat, strategic maneuvers, and the new man-made forest environment players will explore.
From the description:
The trailer showcases the new and enigmatic Park sector, located in the middle of a city ravaged by the events of The Surge. Devious mercenaries called The Hunters roam the artificial, man-made forest, searching for a powerful creature. Beware their traps, their cunning cloaking devices, and most of all, the out-of-control former park guardians.
The Surge 2 is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2019. In the meantime, you can get acquainted with the original on PC and consoles, complete with Xbox One X enhancements, for as little as $16.
