It's been just over two years since the last Tomb Raider game, Rise of the Tomb Raider, hit Xbox One, and now the story of Lara Croft is about to continue. Publisher Square Enix took to Twitter to announce that a new Tomb Raider game is in the works.
Says Square Enix:
Square Enix is excited to share some big news with you next year. Honestly, we wish we could share it with you right now, but we're taking a new approach this time.
A new Tomb Raider game is coming.
Driven by our goal of putting fans first, we want you to know that it won't be very long between the official reveal and when you can play.
Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018. We simply can't wait to take you on Lara Croft's defining adventure.
That's bound to be pretty exciting news for Tomb Raider fans who are excited to pick back up where Rise of the Tomb Raider left off.
Tomb Raider, along its protagonist Lara Croft, has been one of the most iconic mainstays in gaming since its debut in 1996. The series has seen numerous entries, and even movies, over the years, but it saw a reboot with Crystal Dynamics' 2013 Tomb Raider. The game, along with its sequel, was well received by both critics and fans. Rise of the Tomb Raider was also one of the first games to add special visual improvements for Xbox One X.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed console exclusive for Xbox One, so there's a chance a similar deal may be reached for whatever Square Enix has up its sleeve for the sequel. For fans eager for more details, however, we'll likely learn much more in the coming months.
