Nokia has teamed up with the Thomson Reuters Foundation (www.trust.org) to launch a new international photography contest, aimed at empowering women around the world through capturing images. Everyone is encouraged to submit entries that explore women's empowerment in themes such as leadership, courage, passion, and motherhood to name but a few.
What's the reward for submitting your work in the competition? Entries will be judged by a public vote, alongside a distinguished panel of photography, journalism and women's rights experts. Ten finalists will then be selected to put together a portfolio of photos. The winner of the competition will bag the first Thomson Reuters Foundation-Nokia Photography Award, as well as:
- An all-expenses paid trip to attend a week long professional training on mobile journalism organized and run by the Thomson Reuters Foundation
- A Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone
- Full promotion across Talenthouse’s global platform
- The opportunity to have his or her work published on the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s award-winning website.
Part of the Click for Change campaign, check out the below video for a quick look at what it's all about (you can also pick up some ideas from the footage too).
Here's what Monique Villa, Thomas Reuters Foundation CEO, had to say about the competition:
"This Award is an opportunity to give those on the ground a creative platform to showcase women’s empowerment in its very different forms. A picture of a woman driving a car can have a very different meaning depending in which country they drive, and this contest aims to showcase precisely that."
If you're looking to enter the contest, be sure to get your entries in by February 11th 2014. You can submit your work via the Thomson Reuters Foundation website, their Facebook page or through Talenthouse.com. Voting and shortlisting will then commence, with the final winner being announced on April 2nd.
As always with rather sensitive topics, please keep the comments clean.
