The Outer Worlds pre-load begins on Xbox One, requires around 40 GB

What you need to know

  • The Outer Worlds is an upcoming first-person RPG from Obsidian Entertainment.
  • The game is coming to Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.
  • You can pre-load the game on Xbox One right now.
  • The Outer Worlds is part of Xbox Game Pass (opens in new tab).

The Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division allows you to navigate Halcyon, a futuristic space colony, in a visually-lush single-player role-playing game. The title lets you develop a character over time based on your playstyle. The game can apply features to your character based on reoccurring traits and or flaws. The end result is someone who has unusual quirks.

If you were waiting for when the title could be download through Xbox Game Pass, the good news is that you can do so right now. Just head over to the game's Microsoft Store (opens in new tab) page, and you should see an "Install on my devices" option. Click on it and choose which console the title should go on.

The download size is around 36 GB, so make sure you have enough data left. Many users in the United States have data caps, and The Outer Worlds isn't a small game.

According to a spokesperson for Private Division, the game runs at 4K resolution on Xbox One X. It's unclear if it's enhanced for PlayStation 4 Pro because we were told that the team is only aware of Xbox One X support. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

  • Looking forward to trying this out on Game Pass. I liked Fallout 4 and apparently this is similar.
  • Actually it should be closer to New Vegas (as Obsidian developed that game and not Bethesda) , which was actually closer to the old attitude of FO 1 and 2 that made them so great. I enjoyed NV much more that FO 3 or 4.
  • My download was only 17GB
  • Do you have the Xbox X or the regular?
  • Didn't think to mention anything about the release date in the article?
  • I think the listing said the 2rth of this month.
  • Is that right before the 9nst?
  • Nope, 2 days before the 2ndteenth
  • Nice. Gotta love auto correct. Why is that even possible? The 24th*.
  • I did. Apparently the PC version doesn't appear to have achievents?
