The Outer Worlds is an upcoming first-person adventure game from Obsidian Entertainment. Despite the fact that the team is now a part of Xbox Game Studios, this game is available on PlayStation 4 — and will be coming to Nintendo Switch.

This morning, the reviews embargo lifted for The Outer Worlds, and we finally heard what critics thought about the game. Windows Central gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars, and it seems like many other reviewers were impressed with the experience. You can take a look at a roundup below.

  • TheXboxHub: 5 out of 5
  • We Got This Covered: 5 out of 5
  • DualShockers: 9.5 out of 10
  • Stevivor: 9.5 out of 10
  • Xbox Achievements: 92 out of 100
  • COGconnected: 91 out of 100
  • Windows Central: 4.5 out of 5

  • Press Start Australia: 8.5 out of 10
  • IGN: 8.5 out of 10
  • GameSpew: 8 out of 10
  • GamingTrend: 65 out of 100

You can take a look at even more scores on Metacritic and OpenCritic. It's great to see that this game is getting stellar scores because Microsoft really needed strong first-party titles to bolster its lineup. Hopefully, when the inevitable sequel hits, it'll be an even better and more expansive experience.

Are you planning on playing The Outer Worlds? Let us know. It's available through Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One and PC, but you'll have to pay $60 on other platforms.

  • So glad this is so polished. And this was made with a tiny budget like Hellblade was. Obsidian are one of the best RPG developers in the world. Can't wait to see what they can do with essentially unlimited money now they have MS backing on their next game. Lots of reviews praising how good The Outer Worlds is. Here is a comment from Trusted Reviews as well. "Obsidian Entertainment takes the Bethesda RPG blueprint and improves on it by planetary proportions I’m only midway through The Outer Worlds, and won’t be delivering a final score until the main story (rumoured to be 30-40 hours long) is completed. If it continues its fine form though, this will not only become one of my favourite games of the year, but one of my favourite RPG experiences full stop. "
  • And available on Xbox Game Pass. Yum!
  • Interesting review from GamingTrend. Seems to be the only negative one.
  • There's always a few of the same sites that give scores for click bait. The general consensus is its another blockbuster IP from Obsidian. Such a good developer in the RPG space.
