Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming to Xbox Play Anywhere for Windows 10 and Xbox One

We broke the news recently that Resident Evil 7 would be hitting the Windows 10 Store, but Capcom were strangely coy about whether or not it would be an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Now we now know why!

Those who purchase Resident Evil 7 on either the Windows 10 Store or the Xbox Store will net a copy for both platforms, complete with cloud-syncing saves.

Resident Evil 7 is a return to pure survival horror for the series, with the previous two entries occupying a more action-oriented ground. Resident Evil 7 is completely set in the first person, bringing back series staples such as ammo scavenging and conservation, herb crafting, and more. A statement from Microsoft reads as follows:

Today, Phil Spencer announced on Twitter that "RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard" will be available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title when it launches on January 24. As you know, this means that if you purchase a digital version of "RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard" from the Xbox Store or Windows Store (includes any Xbox One title preorders to-date) you will automatically have access to the game on both platforms. As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, gamers can save their "RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard" progress, DLC (including add-ons, Season Passes and in-game unlocks), Gamerscore and Achievements to Xbox Live, so they can pick up where they left on another Xbox One or Windows 10 PC.

Hopefully, Resident Evil 7 will prove a return to form for the series, which has been diluted in recent years with attempts to chase a broader audience. Hopefully, the inclusion of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on the Xbox Play Anywhere list is a sign of things to come, with more publishers and developers jumping on board.

We'll have a full review of Resident Evil 7 up soon, so stay tuned! For more information on the game, see the links below.

Resident Evil 7 launches on January 24th, 2017, as an Xbox Play Anywhere title for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, in addition to Steam and PS4.

  • Nice!!!
  • I can now be scared on two platforms for the price of one.
  • The only thing that is missing vr compared to sony's
  • Yea, I'm betting mine for PS4 Pro but I expect this will be made available for PC VR at some point, and for Scorpio.
  • I wish I wanted this game so I could show my support. However, I much prefer the more action oriented 4/5/6 so I find myself just not interested.
  • I thought 5 was too unscary and 6 was a bit too actiony.. but 4 was my favorite. 1, 2 and 3 are way too outdated and those styles just don't hold up anymore, but I have faith in 7. You should def check out reviews. We don't yet know how little action there is.
  • I think it will be a quality game, but the theme doesn't interest me much. I'm not really into horror... the last three were more just action games with freaky monsters and a few light puzzles. I don't remember actually being scared by them. I don't really have a desire for that kind of gameplay. Seems like most are pretty excited by the switch, so maybe I'm in the minority.
  • I know the demo was creepy as hell. very much so goes back to Revil1 and 2 level of scary (at the time they released)
  • I  hope game mode allows the Xbox UWP versions of games to be easily playable on equivalent PCs. A $600 i5 GTX 660M laptop should be able to play those same games.

  • 660m :/ I have an I7 960 laptop and it sometimes cant play games as good as the xbox ver, depends on the port
  • lol, i meant 950M.... i5 + GTX 950M laptop or i3 + GTX 750 should be = to the Gflop performance of the Xbox one, but there are very few modern AAA games that could run 900-1080p on max settings on those PCs like the Xbox.... if game mode could increase the amount of PCs that could play AAA games it could be a big feature.
  • Yup, this game is going to be huge, I'm so looking forward to this on PC
  • Won't be getting it but that is awesome!! I have FH3 on Play Anywhere and i love it! I hope this is the future of Xbox games
  • Now I know where I'm getting resident evil 7 😄
  • I'm so flipping excited for this game!! Glad to hear it's finally confirmed to be an Xbox Play Anywhere title! I have all the recent Xbox Play Anywhere titles from the Windows 10 Store.
  • UGH at this point im getting a gaming laptop, so i can game anywhere!! This is huge!!! Play ANywhere!!!!!
  • Plz lordy let MVCI be XPA with cross play.
  • It's good that Microsoft is taking the Play Anywhere initiative seriously...I will be buying it on PC of course, though having the option to play it anywhere and have data available for the other system is excellent!
  • Did Microsoft convince them?
  • I guess the fact that the people that will go for digital purchase now, rather than physical and trade in, is equal to or greater than those that would buy on both platforms. With a game like this, initial sales aren't so great, it's the kind of game people will pick up pre-owned somewhere down the line. Having it play anywhere though will swing some people into favour of buying digitally, even if they wait until it's on sale. At least Capcom see some pennies for each digital copy sold, rather than seeing nothing for every physical copy sold.
  • I was going to wait till I build my next rig but now I might buy it at launch at my XBox One if only to support this initiative.
