Rocket League Xbox One X upgrade pushed to late 2018 (update)
The wait for Rocket League's Xbox One X upgrade might lead us to the end of 2018.

Updated November 20, 2018: Rocket League will now get its Xbox One X patch on December 3. The developer said, "For our Xbox One X players, your time has come! We'll have more to share on these improvements in the near future."
Rocket League is a sports game where you control a vehicle and have to use it to play soccer. You jump, boost and hit your way to victory in intense single-player or multiplayer matches. The game looks sharp and runs smoothly on Xbox One, but many gamers have been waiting for the title's Xbox One X upgrade. Unfortunately, it looks like the delay is more severe than we thought.
A few months ago, developer Psyonix said that it would update Rocket League for Xbox One X relatively soon. However, it looks like those plans have been pushed back and now the upgrade is expected to launch in late 2018. The developer revealed this information when it shared plans for Spring 2018. Towards the end of the notes, Psyonix's Corey Davis wrote, "We are now targeting Xbox One X support for late 2018."
This is a curious delay because it seems like the Xbox One X upgrade isn't a priority. If you look at the studio's plans, the recently-released Nintendo Switch version is getting two graphics modes before Microsoft's new console is getting the upgrade. It's understandable that a small team can't be working on this many patches at once, but it may cause headaches for Xbox One X fans eagerly awaiting the upgrade.
Hopefully Psyonix will reconsider its timeline because this news will be upsetting to many owners. By the time Rocket League's Xbox One X upgrade hits, the console might be a year old and many gamers may have moved on.

Is this just an upgrade to 4k?

Rocket League is by FAR my favorite game. It's so addicting. I play every freaking night. Love it! <3

Same here. It's pretty much just what I do before going to bed. I was looking forward to the upgrade but not all that upset about it.
-
Nooooooo.... This would be even more epic in 4k hdr.

While I would love to see that upgrade sooner than later, Rocket League is very enjoyable in its current state on the Xbox One X. Also, for the closing line of your article, I'd be surprised to see that "many gamers may have moved on" by the time the upgrade is released... that game is just a great competitive game for both eSports and serious gamers, as well as the casual gamers. I don't see it losing popularity anytime soon. In fact, it may even gain popularity once the upgrade is released, with new players buying the games.
