Lumia 925

Nokia shows off the Lumia 925 in India with more low-light photography

Nokia and Microsoft are cracking on with marketing Lumia Windows Phones, including the Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020. The two flagship smartphones offer a premium Windows Phone experience and are to appeal to those who are looking for something slightly more than the ever popular Lumia 520, which is really kicking off in multiple markets, including India.

DIY hack enables you to wirelessly charge your Nokia Lumia 925 without optional shells

It can be a pain if you find yourself being allergic to mobile phone cases when you pick up the Lumia 925 and realise you can't wireless charge it without one attached. Nokia opted to not include wireless charging as a complete packing inside the shell of the main device, much like what's available on the Lumia 920, instead going with a 50/50 setup and firing out accessories that enable you to get charging.

What if you don't want to keep attaching a case to wireless charge the Windows Phone? A French tutorial has been published that walks you through on how to work around this issue and actually install the full wireless charging package on the Lumia 925, without the need for a case (except for the initial guide walkthrough).

Nokia's latest ad shows how the Lumia 925 can help you remember the night before

Nokia has published the above advertisement to attract those party animals who simply cannot remember the night before and require photos to trace back steps to figure out exactly what occurred. Unfortunately, if your smartphone camera isn't great with night shots you're going to be literally left in the dark when trying to see view the device captured.

This isn't the case with OIS (optical image stabilisation) in high-end Lumia Windows Phones like the Lumia 925. Just like we saw with the previous advertisement, Nokia is going aggressive against competitor products after the sun sets.

Nokia Lumia 925 strutting one's stuff in latest Enrique Iglesias music video

The Nokia Lumia 925 has been featured in the latest music video from Enrique Iglesias, "Turn The Night Up." The Windows Phone first appears at the 00:18 marker and can be spotted throughout the rather interesting video, including use of the default camera app.

Nokia has been aggressive when it comes to product placement and Lumia marketing in the media. The Man of Steel movie is a perfect example of this. It's positive to see the manufacturer getting its latest flagships included.

Nokia Lumia 925 joining 4G lineup on Vodafone New Zealand

It’s hard to find a single person who isn’t super stoked when they finally get 4G on their network. Vodafone New Zealand started rolling out their 4G network this past February. It started in Auckland and Christchurch, but has slowly been expanding. It’s now launching in Palmerston North. As part of that launch, customers on Vodafone NZ can soon pick up a new Nokia Lumia 925 to enjoy that high-speed connectivity.

Which is better, carrots or the Lumia 925? Nokia and Three have an answer

Nokia and in this case UK carrier Three, have co-released a new ad for the Nokia Lumia 925. Falling under the “absurd” category, the Finnish smartphone maker asks Do Carrots help you see in the Dark? The ad then shows what looks to be a scientific test with subjects consuming vast quantities of carrots and then engaging in sports like hurdles and boxing, but completely without light.

The subjects of course fail miserably and since people falling down is allegedly funny, it is supposed to get a laugh.

Nokia unlocks Pro Cam app for Lumia 920, 925 and 928 users with Amber

Good news if you’re looking to ramp up your photography skills on the Lumia 925, as Nokia is now allowing the Pro Cam app on that phone. Previously, the advanced photography suite was only available for the Nokia Lumia 1020 but it was also known that it would trickle down to the 92x series later.

Today, we can confirm that on our Lumia 925 we can install and indeed use the app. We also suspect that Lumia 928 users may be also be able to use it as well as those on the Lumia 920 who have received the combo GDR2 + Amber updates. In order for the app to work, it requires some OS modifications and the Amber firmware that those new updates bring.

Quick Review: Terrapin faux-leather flip case for the Nokia Lumia 925

With all the Nokia Lumia 1020 cases we’ve been highlighting recently, we figured we would spread it out a bit and focus on the Nokia Lumia 925—a phone is dire need of protection. We say that because the Lumia 925 is probably the most elegant of all the Lumias but it is also fragile. The tradeoff for the cool, smooth aluminum is a frame that can be easily dented, scuffed or chipped.

Luckily, we have no less than five case reviews for you this week on the Lumia 925 with the first being from Terrapin. Their faux-leather flip case is a sophisticated “wallet” type that offers a decent amount of protection from drops but is also nice enough to wear with your finest dress clothes.

Nokia publishes humorous Lumia 925 ad, touching on low-light photography

Nokia has published the above video, showing how the average smartphone can't deal with low levels of light and capture those special moments on film. The Lumia 92x series of Windows Phones and the new Lumia 1020 sport OIS (optical image stabilisation), as well as software and optical improvements to make it possible to use the smartphone camera with little light.

Nokia Lumia 925 heading to Vietnam along with free headphones

Nokia's Lumia 925 has popped up on the Vietnamese site for pre-order, with an expected delivery around the end of August. The phone will fetch 11,900,00 dong (about $568) and comes with a free set of Coloud Boom headphones. In addition, the first 1000 people to pre-order the Lumia 925 will receive a free DC-16 backup USB charger.

Nokia Lumia 925 gets strapped to a copter in short film; major HDR Photo Camera update inbound

HDR Photo Camera is considered by many, including us, to be the go-to app for snapping high-dynamic range (HDR) photos. HDR photos are comprised of 3 or more images, each varying on exposure times, merged together to create a visually striking image. It’s quite the trend in photography these days and when done right, it looks great (when done poorly, it’s tacky).

Today, we have two bits of information to bring you, including the forthcoming version 3.5 of HDR Photo Camera, which should be on the Store in the next few hours. That update will bring many new requested features to really fill out the popular app.

The other is a project that involves strapping a Nokia Lumia 925 to a hexacopter for some amazing imagery captured, demonstrating the prowess of the 925’s PureView camera.

An even better deal for SIM unlocked Nokia Lumia 925 in Canada: $575

We’re not too privy on the various outlets for buying SIM unlocked phones up in Canada, but if you are, then you may want to pay attention. Earlier this morning, we reported that Expansys Canada was selling the SIM unlocked Nokia Lumia 925 for CDN $714.56, which seemed a bit pricey for our tastes and evidently yours (Expansys has a mixed reputation, according to comments).

Nokia Lumia 925 listed on Flipkart, coming soon to India

The Lumia 925 is Nokia's first Windows Phone to make use of metal in the production process. The unique design and improved optics are a refreshing change from the Lumia 920, along with being slightly thinner and lighter. The new high-end smartphone is a must-have for many consumers. The issue is the product is still launching in numerous markets, including India.

SIM Unlocked Nokia Lumia 925 now available in Canada via Expansys

While we still don’t have any firm confirmations on Nokia’s plans for the Lumia 925 on Canadian carriers, those itching to pick up the thin metal Windows Phone 8 device can now order it SIM unlocked.

The site Expansys has the device in limited stock for CDN $714.56, ready to ship and in white with 16GB of storage. On board bands include 3G (850/900/1900/2100 MHz) and GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), so make sure you check with your respective carrier for compatibility.

Rumor: Telecom New Zealand won’t be getting Lumia 925; already EOL’d Lumia 920

It looks like those on Telecom, based in New Zealand, won’t be getting their hands on the excellent Nokia Lumia 925 as was planned. A source familiar with the carrier has informed us that the phone has evidently failed network testing and “won't be offered by Telecom”. What makes the matter worse is that the Lumia 920 was designated end-of-life (EOL) last month and indeed, that phone is no longer listed on Telecom’s website (though you can still purchase it in-store).

Nokia shows how the Lumia 925 camera is better than the iPhone 5 in new ad

Nokia has pushed a new video to their YouTube account demonstrating the strengths of their PureView camera found on the Lumia 925. But instead of just rattling off specs, they take the fight directly to Apple, challenging the notion that quantity does not equal quality by pitting it against the iPhone 5. While the video is sure to ruffle some feathers, it's a valid differentiator between the two phones and one worth highlighting to consumers.

The commercial shows various side by shots between the two devices for everyday events with users snapping away pics while a voice over talks about what makes the Lumia 925 so special. Highlighting such features as OIS (optical image stabilisation), sixth lens and PureView technology, which gets name-dropped, can go a long way towards building a brand name around this significant selling point for Nokia.

Unlocked Nokia Lumia 925 devices start receiving update to OS build 10328

Reports are coming, with scarce details, that the Nokia Lumia 925 is receiving an OS update today over the air.

The update bumps the OS from build 10327 to build 10328—both of which are considered part of the GDR2 release frame. Devices that are reported to be receiving the update include only unlocked devices with no reports (yet) of branded or carrier supported ones, including T-Mobile US.
