touch diamond

If you're the kind of person who just has to wait for official fixes to come out, well, fine. We understand. And official fixes are starting to trickle out for the 2016 SMS bug that we helped bring to light.

HTC has hotfixes for the Sprint Touch Diamond and Touch Pro that in all liklihood do the exact same thing our workaround does. But if you need the HTC stamp of approval, well, here you go.

Edit: The links to the CAB files are being squirrley, so just use the ones above.

Edit 2: Odd. Now the HTC pages are borked. Hang in there, guys.

That's right, folks. For a limited time only (we presume) you can get the HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond, as well as the Samsung Omnia, for the low, low price of $99. As you well know, all three of those phones are on their way out, so the discount isn't unexpected.

(The Samsung Saga is still at $199, btw, the SMT5800 is $99 the Ozone and Q9m are $49, and the original HTC Touch is $9.99.)

That all comes along with a 2-year contract. So if you don't mind signing away 730 days of your cellular life for phones that while good, aren't the latest and greatest, head on over to Verizon.

Thanks, Elliot, and everyone else who sent this in.

Step right up folks and whip out the plastic! That hotly anticipated HTC Touch Diamond for Sprint is now available for purchase.

For $249.99 ($324 - $100 MIR; 2 year contract or some fancy haggling on your part), the svelte leader of the "yet another black slab" phones can be yours.

There is some cryptic terms regarding that $100 MIR though:

Mail-in rebate requires an Everything plan, Talk/Message/Data Share plan, Data Premier add-on or PRO Pack add-on.

The only thing missing on this device is that microSD card slot. Why HTC, why?!

Thanks crazie.eddie for the tip. Post in the comments if you ordered one ;-)

HTC has released a couple of hotfixes for the original Touch Diamond that should take are of a couple of annoying bugs. (As opposed to the bugs we like, I guess.)

The first hotfix takes care of problems a number of people were having with audio playback skipping.

The second involves the Sounds and Notifications settings, specifically that you couldn't uncheck the Repeat Reminders option. So, apply this fix, and all should be well.

Note that these are hotfixes and not a full-on ROM update. Hotfixes install just like any other program. So if you hard-reset your phone at some point, you'll need to reapply the hotfixes or risk having the problems again.

Review: HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter

If you haven’t heard of HTC, you must be new here. If you haven’t heard Dieter complain about HTC’s apparent apprehension with putting a 3.5mm audio jack on their devices, you should start listening to our Podcast. One solution that has been mentioned before is HTC’s Multifunction adapter that gives you a slew of options for connecting all manner of devices to your device of choice. If you want this additional functionality on your phone, you know where to get all the details.

Just a heads up that we're still expecting Verizon to finally release the HTC Touch Diamond on April 10 – that's Friday, as in tomorrow.

The $300 you'll have to spend (after a $70 rebate, no less) to get the thing is downright highway robbery, though, when you consider that the Touch Diamond 2 will be making an appearance pretty soon. Sure, Verizon's will have an SD card slot, and that's nothing to sneeze at, seeing as how everyone else must make do with the 4 gigabytes of internal memory. But that price point is still a little hard to swallow.

Any of you folks out there in TV land planning on picking one up tomorrow? Let us know in the comments.

It's release date rumor day here at WMExperts, and the latest nugget surrounds Verizon and the long-awaited release of the HTC Touch Diamond.

The Boy Genuis Report says that the Diamond finally (FINALLY) will see the light of day on April 10 -- that's this Friday!

Better late than never, we guess, and we'll go ahead and through out our prediction for the Touch Diamond 2: Verizon will get it on May 2, 2010; the rest of the world will get it in the next couple of months.

We reported a few weeks ago that Verizon finally is set to launch its own Touch Diamond, and the Boy Genius Report snagged a few pics that prove it's not just vaporware.

BGR is also reporting the VZW Diamond has a Qualcomm 7500A processor running at 528 MHz; 256MB ROM/128MB RAM, and everything else we've come to expect in the Diamond (though we're curious about the state of its GPS).

Of course, this is good news for you die-hard (and contract-bound) Verizon customers. As for the rest of us, we'll just sit back and wait on the Touch Diamond 2 to make an appearance in a few months.

HTC updates Touch Diamond ROM

HTC has released an update for the Touch Diamond for users with the following ROM versions: English (Pan Europe and UK), Italian, Dutch, German, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Norwegian, and Finnish.

The fixes:

  • When you launch the Camera while the system is working on other programs, the preview screen may become black.
  • When playing a video, sometimes a portion of the video will be cut off a little bit.
  • Fixes Audio playback problem with the speaker. Specific issues: sometimes the music will turn off and on after 10 minutes, or there is a buzzing sound or no sound at all.
  • Fixes the problem of not being able to receive MMS when in standby mode.
  • When launching music via the Music tab on TouchFLO 3D, the sound may intermittently turn off for a second and come back on.

HTC notes that users who applied this upgrade before Feb. 27 need to apply it again. As always, make sure your phone meets the upgrade requirements, and back up all of your contacts and other information before trying to upgrade anything.

Lightsaber for Touch Diamond, Touch Pro

Here's some weekend fun for ya: an accelerometer-based lightsaber app for HTC's smartphones that have said feature, namely the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro / Fuze, and the Touch HD.  It's based on the unofficial API, sports background music and 'fighting sounds' and it's pretty much the most impressive thing you can install on any phone, ever, in the history of mankind.

Maybe, just maybe, it will help you forget about what Lucas has done to your precious childhood memories, if only for a moment. [via mobiltech addicts]

HTC Announces Touch Diamond 2

Where would the Touch Pro 2 be without a keyboard-less little brother? Adrift, that's where. Adrift without a sibling that sports nearly identical specs, to wit:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro
  • 3G, quad-band edge
  • WiFi, GPS, FM Radio
  • Motion sensor
  • 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200
  • 512ROM/288 RAM
  • MicroSD Expansion
  • 4.25" x 2.09" x .54"
  • 4.15 oz
  • 5mp Camera
  • 1100 mAh Battery
  • 3.2" 480x800 WVGA screen

Right, you guessed it, pretty much identical specs, thinner and cooler form factor. Even better, take a look at the bolded section there — the Diamond 2 drops the onboard memory in favor an an honest-to-god microSD card slot. HTC may not have brought the U.S. the Touch HD, but if it denies us this, too, there will be blood ... continued grumbling. Which brings to availability: Q2 2009 for Europe and Asia, global availability "later in the year." In other words, it should arrive slightly ahead of the Touch Pro 2 and U.S. release seems, well, seems inevitable.

We're a little teary about HTC dropping the facets on the rear of the device, but not that teary. Plus, we're actually pretty excited to see what looks to be touch-area underneath the screen that looks to be a dedicated zoom bar, just as with the Touch Pro 2.

Verizon may finally get Touch Diamond

Might Verizon finally be getting the HTC Touch Diamond? Engadget Mobile thinks so. They've got a spy who says the Diamond will see the the light of the big V for the first time "in early to mid-March."

How late to the party are they? By comparison, Sprint supposedly will end-of-life its Touch Diamond in July.

In other VZW news, Engadget's tipster also points to a new phone "unlike anything anyone has seen before." What that is, we've got no idea. Also, the Samsung Omnia may be reduced to $99 with contract in mid-March.

But, really, with all the new HTC goodness we know is in the works, are you really going to be excited about snagging a Diamond just now?

Tip of the Week: Save your stylus

Ah, the great stylus debate. Even with the advent of the more finger-friendly TouchFlo 3D, some people just can't put down the stylus. And that's OK. Different strokes and all that. And with the Touch Diamond family of devices (including the Touch Pro and Touch HD), there came the added bonus of the phone recognizing when you remove the stylus and then waking or launching a program.

And if you're they type that's constantly losing your stylus, here's a little app that can help remind you to put it back after you've used it. Brought to you by the fine folks at XDA Developers, it monitors whether your stylus is in or out. If it's out and your phone starts moving, it can alert you. Pretty simple stuff, but it could save you a little stylus headache.

Find the app and more information on it here.

The Boy Genius has scored a Sprint deathlist, with a couple of Windows Mobile phones slated to be EOL'd – that's end of life – in the coming months.

The Motorola Q9c is on the chopping block, with its execution date set for mid-June. No replacement is noted.

Also on the list is the HTC Touch Diamond, which would go the way of the dinosaurs in July. There's no replacement noted for it, either, though we'd be willing to bet we'll eventually see something off that leaked HTC lineup.

And finally there's the Palm Treo 800w, which will bite the big one in April and be replaced by the Treo Pro. The question remains exactly when.

If you just can't bring yourself to rip open your HTC Touch Diamond to find out what makes it tick, we're right there with you. After all, this is the phone that launched the 2008 wave of black-slab sexiness.

But PPCGeeks member BigDiesel07 took it upon himself to rip apart the Diamond. And what he's found is that it doesn't look like an enterprising DIYer with a soldering gun will be able to upgrade the internal flash memory. And as the Diamond doesn't have external storage, we're stuck with what our HTC momma gave us.

There is really only one section of the board with anything on it, the board that has the processor on one side, and the huge memory bank on the other (the 4gb internal).

Keep an eye on the PPCGeeks thread. BigDiesel promises higher quality pics soon. And if you're up for more HTC carnage, check out his excellent CDMA Touch Pro tear-down.

Update: Big Diesel gave us a heads up in the comments that the new, higher-res pics are up. Go get em'!
