UC Browser picks up significant update; brings new UI, better tab management and more

UC Browser picked up a significant update today which sees the introduction of a new user interface along with a host of new features. Designed for Windows Phone 8.1 devices, the browser has a nifty gesture based tab management feature that allows you to switch between tabs with ease. And it renders the web beautifully on a 1080p display.

The switch to version 4 marks the biggest update yet for the popular browser, as evidenced by the list of changes:

  • Redesigned user interface for a better visual experience
  • Richer site navigation
  • Merged Address Bar and Search Box
  • Better Tab Management (for WP devices with at least 1GB RAM)

To celebrate the launch of the new version, UC Browser is giving WPCentral readers a chance to win a Lumia 930 as well as five $25 gift cards that can be redeemed on the Windows Phone Store. To know more about the details of the contest, head on over to the forums from the link below.

Be sure to check out the new changes in UC Browser, and let us know what you like (and don't) in the comments below.

  • Nice. One of my favourite mobile browsers
  • Definitely agree. With the latest update the UI is by far the best. The app runs smoothly too. Great job by the UC team.
  • At least this app is given attention....looks like bbm is going to be like instagram etc etc
  • Truth has been said.
  • At least BBM is out of BETA.
  • Can you elaborate? How BBM is like Instagram?
  • Lack of updates.
  • This is great. I liked the design of uc beta. It's nice they already made it official. :)
  • Now myTube and Poki should follow suit.
  • The bug on 8.1.1 PFD, makes those app delayed. Said Tweetium's creator.
  • So 512 has to stick with old? Sigh... Updating....
  • Don't worry most new Features are there. Only tab management.
  • I hope you add some kind of optimization for us too :)
  • Y they r discriminating with us(512 mb ram)....
  • Good question... It's not a limitation unless they make it to be.... The challenge is with the devs to optimize and add the support... I just can't believe something like tab management requires coding that's can only be ran with 1GB...
  • Yep, no more updates for WP7 :/
  • Even though I don't use it, I do appreciate the developers hard work
  • Upgrade, or the world will eat you alive...
  • I mean metaphorically speaking
  • Lol bye
  • Smooooootttthhhh ...
  • Nice.updating...
  • Dat new UI. So beautiful.
  • Truth, I've always avoided 3rd party Browsers but this is nice. It loads the Full Amazon page not the mobile browser. Nice. Me thinks I'll keep it.
  • But sudently it's not available in my country :( I am from Greece !
  • Change your region from settings to India and then restart and open the store you'll find new uc browser.. After download change your region to your country.. Have fun !!
  • Way to promote your country. ;)
  • Haha... No , u r getting it in a wrong way.. I just want to help the guy... Bdw sorry. :D
  • You don't have to be sorry, it's great that you've given a tip that works. I'd have told him to switch to the US marketplace.
  • Haha... Okay. Is moliplayer is free in your region ???
  • Moli player is free in china windows phone store.. Downloaded Moli player by switching my region to china and enjoying it..
  • Im from greece too, why isnt it available? Please fix it, my region is greece i wont change it
  • Nothing happens if you change the marketplace.. I lived in Greece and I was using the US marketplace there.
  • wait, change the marketplace's region? Is that even possible? Tell me how please
  • Yes it is possible by changing your region to desired country.. And you can get the apps of that particular region then switch back to your original region.. And that app will still work.. Since I've downloaded moli player for free from china marketplace.. Then switched back to India.. Using using moli player for free still..
  • And yet they are visible in your store and downloadable? That's great! Where to change the region?
  • Its very simple.. Go to setings --> region then change it..
  • Ok thanks :)
  • try again. i had similar problem 5 minutes ago :)
  • Or you can simply do the following (like i do everytime something is not in my region): 1. Copy the link from your desktop browser of UC Browser (or any app you can't see in your region) 2. Send that link on your hotmail (or MS) account. 3. Open that email from your phone and just click the link (it will open your IE10 or 11) and it will get you straight to the UC Browser on the Store. Install it and enjoy it :). Don't have to change the region, works for me every time :) OR... You can click the link bellow if you are viewing this from your phone: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/uc-browser/6cda5651-56b9-48b...
  • Nah it should be ok...Try search UC Browser
    Or maybe try again later?
  • Hmm... Nice.. Hope it better than uc preview
  • Great browser. Use it daily and it puts Ie to shame
  • RESPECT!! :)
  • Hmm. Sounds good, let me check it out. Is Find In Page still only available in Speed Mode btw?
  • Ah, still in speed mode. Why?!
Anyway the new UI looks cool, but the app is slightly laggy on my 520.
  • The UI is same as uc browser preview. Don't you think.
  • Not just Speed Mode.
Only some websites don't support it, will improve it later
  • what is speed mode, new to uc browser
  • It scrolls as smooth as Internet explorer now. That's the only factor that kept me away from this browser for a long time, but I'm very happy now
  • Uc browsers is the only app which is becoming better day by day... The team real care for their users.. Hats off
  • Seems faster... *runs away
  • I dont like uc browser. I like internet explorer, surfy and operamini. When I browse to html5test.com in uc browser it says you are using internet explorer 10 on a nokia Lumia XXX,
It means uc browser not using its own rendering engine.its just a new skin to internet explorer. Where as opera uses its own server rendering engine.
  • As far as I understand it is not possible on WP to create a browse with its own engine. You have to use the IE engine.
  • I don't know what the problem with the Microsoft and there fuc***g crap developers. I wish people don't buy WP so that ms dogs will not be tied.
  • Maxthon just started to use Webkit on WP. I think that makes them the first browser that uses a different engine.
  • And it's not because they are not allowed to. Probably because it's too much work to port an engine to work on WP.
  • And also it's Chinese. Your privacy is at stake.
  • 傻逼,吃里扒外
  • Opera in my 1520 is very slow.
  • Nice ui
  • This is so much better than IE... too bad we can't change the default browser =\
  • What about UC for Windows PC?
  • It does have windows 8 version, universal app.
  • There's not much sense in getting new browsers on windows phone if you can't set them as default.
  • Did your phone has a dedicated browser button so that when you press it it opens the default browser. This is not necessary to set it default
  • Sorry, your comment doesn't make sense. Try to rephrase please?
  • Oops I mean setting default is not a very useful features. I think this feature will be available in the gdr2 update. As it will add file manager to the system. So that we can share files to different apps much betterly. So when we will try to open a link in file manager it will ask to choose a browser.
  • I don't think that is going to happen. How will you find a link in the file manager anyway? It's called FILE manager, you'll only find files or folders with files in there. Links are included IN the files that are opened with apps. So unless each app asked you which browser do you want to open the link with, I don't see how it could be possible. And I don't even think such API access is viable or if it will ever be due to security reasons and whatnot. I'm loving IE by the way. Does the job fine.
  • U r right
  • It does indeed. Actually since it's a "smartphone" all the common things such as social networks and news are in apps. I don't use the browser much. Yet that's my point: Why do we need more browsers? And if users like other browsers and we have them, they're not completely useful since you can't set them as default and as Bunty said (except for the file manager part) if you click a link it'll open I.E anyways.
  • I like theme or nothing
  • The QR Code is for UC Browser Preview not the official one
  • Nice update...uc team doing realy hard for wp..thkx guys
  • true
  • Already introduced in beta version...
  • Even in year 2014 text reflow isn't standard feature. Pathetic.
  • Opera UI should be like redesigned for all windows devices.
  • Looks just like Nokia Xpress browser for Asha
  • I've just fell in love with this browser. It's nice you can choose the way it loads sites (can pick android or ios views) this is my new browser. IE is a bit of a farce
  • Whatever they update..... Without background downloads(not Wi-Fi) there is no use....
  • You need 8.1 todo backround downloads. Even UC Browser 3.6 supported backround downloads.
  • I have 8.1. Background downloads means like downloads in Android phones even we exit the browser....
  • Wish I could set it as default browser so it opened click links from apps
  • I like the older UI more than this new one.
  • Installed, this version of uc browser replaced the ugly boring design and features of IE bye bye IE
  • Where is the night mode brightness setting???
  • long tap in a night mode page and you will see it.
  • Why Windows phone don't have a functions of setting ringtones and notifications directly right from the phone without using any third party apps? Why it doesn't allow easy backups of apps and games as like as Android?, why does it don't allow to play audio while calling and etc?
  • 1.) You can definitely set custom ringtones and notifications directly from the phone, educate yourself. 2.) Backups of apps and games on android use third party apps, I thought you don't like that? 3.) What's the point of calling someone when you will play something else in the background? Obvious troll is failing, besides. Find a proper place instead of replying on random comments.
  • is there a tutorial for those new? To see quickly the features and have better experience? I was requested by a friend but i dont know if there is any
  • Seems a lot quicker. I use it more than IE. Tried to replace it with Opera, but that was pointless.
  • Nice update good to see uc browser not ignoring windows phone users
  • Awesome update! Soon it'll be as good as Opera Mini or Surfy.
  • One of the excellent browser for Windows phone ...i hv ever seen
  • I'd deleted this app, but it has piqued my attention once again. Going to download it as an alternative to IE, since Opera suck as of now.
  • Thanks for that:) We are going to release a special version for GDR1, and it will be even smoother.
  • Its not optimised for 512mb devices
  • Great browser... Only 512 device :(, but great that the developer pays so much attention to the app, unlike others.
  • SO MICROSOFT; WHEN WE CAN CHOOSE DEFAULT BROWSER???? Im not intrested in other browsers as long as the links etc still open in IE.
  • I prefered the tab style in the UC Preview/Beta over the rectangles. Maxthon has the same dealio too, plus the beta tab style was better for 512 Mb phones since you had a large preview icon and the activity on the page was halted completely instead of still running in the background. I somewhat regret having uninstalled the preview. :/
  • But it's a bit laggy and easier to cause crash...
  • Idk about you, but the preview ran better on my Lumia 521 PfD 8.1.1
  • There run by china
  • 1 GB RAM for a browser?
  • Renders pages beautifully its the best browser of all time. 1080p support beautifull
  • Mobile browsing not working for google.com? I mean m.google.com redirects to Google's own app installation page!!!
  • m.google.com was always for app installation. check it on PC
  • Understood. But when I was visiting google.com from UC browser, it had desktop interface instead of mobile interface.now it's ok.
  • Now I'm just missing text reflow when zooming.
  • Awesome update
  • uh? The update isn't available for my Lumia 822 but I already have it installed. What is going on?
  • Got the same issue, it's temporary store problem
  • Installing the update! I know I will surely rate it 5* in WPstore after seeing this update!! *^^*
  • Cool news :D I just uninstalled UC preview to install this version, it works really well
  • Thanks a lot for the update. This new update couldn't get any better. Great work from you guys to deliver us such a nice browsing experience on WP.‪
  • The best just got better.
  • Nice and fresh improvement over previous versions.Feeling like different browser all total. Not smooth butterly but no complaints.Still waiting for the crashing sh*t anyway.Lumia 620
  • Idk why they omitted new tab management since its working absolutely fine on preview version :(
  • If anything it ran better too!
  • Downloaded and tried. I like it but can not figure out how to import my Favorites from IE. I have hundreds, and typing them all in is a no go. Any way to import them?
  • Open IE, go to any of your favorites, and copy the link from the address bar. Open UC Browser, paste the link on the address bar. Once fully loaded, add it your favorites. It is not the most desirable solution, but it may help you with long links.
  • For well over a hundred links, back and forth, between IE and UC? No way, not worth it. Something as simple as importing a list of links from a html file should be implemented. Unistall...
  • Medium and Metrolyrics not working properly!
When I press the "M" on medium, the menu doesn't show. Why is that? Works well on IE :/
First time on UCB, I like it so far but Medium should work properly on UC first:(
  • Should I now uninstall the beta uc browser? The beta one is v3.9 and this one is v4
  • yes,you can unistall it
  • Best app on windows platform.
  • Have never loaded any browser apart from UC even when Opera was released never bothered to download it..now it jux gets better
  • Nice browser! Tried a long time ago and didn't care for it. Much better now. However some places like TWC are not loading their mobile versions. Some like TWC I prefer the mobile and not desktop.
  • Try switching site preferences.
  • Thanks, but my preferences are set to mobile. I switched to android and it worked. However I'd prefer to stay on mobile not android or iphone. Went back and checked IE and they show as mobile but not on UC. Not a deal breaker, just something I noticed.
  • Well, the browser still has it's bugs and issues.
  • Looks quite nice and feels a bit more snappy even on my 630
  • WP loves update of apps
  • Glad to see improvements, Thanks for your(UC_dev_team_WP) hard work...
  • The Best Browser Windows Phone has. Keeps improving itself everytime. Coping up with the innovations. User-friendly and elegant UI, and improved browsing speed. I loved the idea of putting the search tab down for convenient browsing experience. Great Job!
  • UC Browser is the monopoly of browsers on Windows Phone. No competitors comes close.
  • The main page(speed dials, top sites etc), address bar and themes look like Maxthon v1.0 for Windows Phone exactly.   That means UC Browser v5.0 will look like Maxthon v2.0 and will have WebKit core like Maxthon v2.0? Maxthon is the best browser for Windows Phone so far.
  • Sorry but you are wrong, UC Browser is the only browser that I know of that allows you to download YouTube videos and export them to your SD Card.
  • You're wrong really. Surfy and Opera Mini allow you to download YouTube videos on SD card. Also Maxthon has "Live Tile" speed dials design, Night Mode(also convert white web page layers to black), PC/Mobile Mode, Private Browsing, Finger Gestures, Text-only, Themes, favorite sync, clear cookies/history -since v1.0- PLUS, Maxthon v2.0 has NewsBites(RSS Reader -also readable offline-), changing app Language without changing phone language, changing default search engine or changing search engine on address bar, steady mode(screen isn't locked while watching a video or playing music), tab recovery and time tabs... AND the most important; Maxthon has WebKit core supported WP 8.1.1 based IE11... Is UC the best browser for just to have download feature? C'mon! We're in 2014 and who cares to download web videos to mobile devices? It's a nice feature but not killer :/ I need NewsBites, WebKit core, to change search engine on address bar while typing, steady screen mode, color-converter Night Mode and speed more!
  • Hey guys I am getting "GET to / not supported" error.. Any solution for this issue??
  • Could you give me an url and screenshot?
  • Always a big fan of UCBrowser, ever since Symbian. Keep up the good work guys.
  • The one site i needed to be able to access because IE can't do it, my Health Spending account, does not work after this so called great update. Freezes my whole phone(M8) requiring a restart. It used to work fine pre-update. Disappointed to say the least. Wish I had not taken the update :(     Maybe I'll try it again next update IE does everything else I need.
  • Lumia 1520, 1320 users,
I use this browser because I can switch to iPhone/Android in site preferences, thus loading better site layout for bigger screen, the Verge's site for example.
  • Big fan of IE but with the latest update im really liking UC
  • The UI is so beautiful that it got me playing around the app for 30 minutes without actually browsing, but admiring the great effort put into the new UI :D .. Just wish that other apps can be as beautiful as this... My god!!!!!! :D
  • No more 'View It Later' option... Great! -_____-

  • The New UC Browser 4 fo re Windows Phone is awesome. New design looks fantastic on my Lumia. #UCBrowserWP #BestWPBrowser
  • New UC Browser is Just Awesome. #BestWPBrowser
  • Its still slightly slow-ish while getting back to the home page...
  • The only reason I find myself never use this app is that there is no way to get rid of Google and make Bing my default search engine. Yeah I'm biased but why even consider to use Google when you use a Windows Phone?
  • The new ui looks good! Gonna try asap!
  • Is the scrolling really slow for you guys? No way near as smooth as IE on my 930
  • This is da best browser
  • The best browser on Windows Phone.Loved the new UI.Good to see the search box down for convenient browsing experience.Great job guys.
  • can you download videos and musics with UC?
  • Perfect gets even more perfection
  • Ok, ui was good, but still there are some more issues which not resolved in this version
  • Hi. There's another UC Browser in the store, the UC Browser 8.1. Can anyone tell the differences!?
  • recently i couldn't find the download button which used to appear while watching youtube videos in uc browser in my lumia 535. can anyone help ???
