The Lumia 625 is an odd duckling amongst the Nokia range of Windows Phones. It’s not on many major carriers, and doesn’t garner a lot of attention, but it’s a darn cool phone. Coming in with a 4.7” display, the Lumia 625 is a budget phone with a big screen. It later inspired the massive Lumia 1320 too (review this week), with its rounded edges and wallet-friendly price.

One downside of lower cost phones is of course, less features. For example, the Nokia exclusive 'double-tap to wake' is found on most devices except the lower cost ones. The Lumia 520 has it, but only for AT&T. The Lumia 525 has it out of the box. The Lumia 625 doesn’t have it either. Until now.

The Lumia 625 is an interesting and unique Windows Phone from Nokia. Sporting a massive 4.7-inch display, the largest found on any Lumia smartphone (until the Lumia 1520 comes along), the handset is for those who enjoy looking at huge screens and boasting sizeable hardware. According to MobileSyrup, the Lumia 625 will launch on TELUS this coming Thursday (October 3rd) and will be priced at just $300.

The Nokia Lumia 625, featuring a nicely sized 4.7-inch display and a 1.2GHz dual core CPU is certainly an interesting phone. Its budget priced and lacks a lot of the high end features of its Lumia brethren and yet it’s still in a category all its own due to that screen size, large battery, microSD expansion and premium Nokia feel.

Telstra began selling the Nokia Lumia 625 at the end of August, while some third-party retailers had it a few weeks earlier.

Although Nokia has their Lumia 1020 to start global distribution in the coming weeks, their other new phone, the Lumia 625, is now rolling out worldwide.

The latest country to pick up the 4.7-inch 800x480 Windows Phone 8 device would be Qatar, through Consolidated Gulf Co. (CGC) who distributes for Nokia in the region. The phone is retailing for QR 999 ($275 USD) and is now available “across major electronic retail stores in a range of colours including orange, yellow, bright green, white and black”. The device is expected to help transition the region to 4G and should be a great choice for those looking for a compelling Windows Phone without committing to much money.
