Pinball Fx2

Every weekend, Windows Central streams an Xbox One game on Twitch for one hour and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream. We took last weekend off from streaming because I was all kinds of sick with a cold. But I'm almost over the cold, so this week I'm back, baby!

Saturday 11/22 at at 8pm Central (9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific), we played not one, but two games! To start with, we knocked some balls around in Pinball FX2. See the recently released South Park tables in action, plus several more! After that, we played an hour of Grand Theft Auto V's campaign.

We gave out Pinball FX2 "South Park Pinball" codes for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Steam to many of the readers who participated in the stream! It was a lot of fun, and you can catch up on the whole thing by watching the archived videos embedded in this post.

Halo: the Master Chief Collection, the compilation of all four numbered Halo games, is finally available on Xbox One. Our detailed review won't be live until tomorrow, but a lot of players already own the game and are enjoying it right now.

In celebration of the Master Chief Collection launch, Windows Central is hosting a special Twitch streaming event. Tonight you can both tune in to watch us play and chat with our staff and your fellow readers, and you can also actually play with us during the session! We'll be inviting stream viewers into our custom multiplayer games for some serious Slayer and other game types.

Update: The stream has ended. We managed to play a few games, but the broken multiplayer prevented us from enjoying the game as much as we hoped. Fingers crossed that 343 will get everything working right soon!

Earlier this month we reported that Pinball FX2 from Zen Studios would be coming to Xbox One at the end of July as part of the ID@Xbox program. This heralded much rejoicing from pinball fans such as your friendly neighborhood Games Editor and even head honcho Daniel Rubino. But at the same time, we all lamented the inability to transfer purchased tables from the Xbox 360 version of Pinball FX2 to the Xbox One version. Microsoft had not allowed the developers to implement such a transfer.

As Xbox Windows Phone fans well know, sometimes Microsoft listens to user feedback and sometimes it does not. The Xbox One and ID@Xbox sections certainly have been extremely responsive for the last year or so. Case in point, Zen announced this week that users will be able to transfer their Pinball FX2 tables from the 360 to Xbox One right when the Xbox One version launches! Now that's what I call a win for consumers. Xbox One players will have to wait a little longer for the game though, as the new version has been delayed until August.

Pinball FX2 is a bittersweet game for many Windows Phone gamers. A Windows Phone version of the popular Xbox 360 game was supposed to come along in 2012 (see our interview), but it turned into vaporware (unofficial cancellation) instead. At least it did come out on Windows 8, giving tablet and PC gamers plenty of pinball goodness to enjoy.

The Xbox One is still a new console and doesn't have a pinball game to its name. That will soon change with the arrival of Pinball FX2! Zen Studios' epic pinball platform has long been announced for Microsoft's latest console as part of the ID@Xbox program. And now the Xbox One version has an official release date: July 31. The base game will cost nothing and includes a full table for free! Read on for more details and a list of tables that will be available to buy at launch.

Prepare for a bit of Xbox 360 news that will spill over to Windows 8 and likely Windows Phone in the future as well. PopCap and Zen Studios have partnered up to introduce ‘Plants vs. Zombies Pinball’ to Pinball FX 2 on Xbox Live Arcade. If you’ll recall, most or all existing tables will appear in the forthcoming Windows Phone port as well, so consider this a sneak preview if you don’t play the Xbox 360 version of Pinball FX 2. Zen kindly provided a review code for the table, and now we’ve got full impressions to share after the break.

Pinball: Just one fix...

Although we’re still waiting on that pesky Xbox LIVE game to go…well live, we have something else to keep you gamers happy: Pinball League’s Dr. Pickaxe. If that name sounds familiar it’s because there’s a previous pinball game by the same company, Tainicom, called Pinball League - The Juggler. This game just hit the Windows Phone Store and we’re in love.

First off, we should note that we’re huge pinball fans. Pinball FX2 on Xbox 360 is our illicit drug of choice and we’re dying to get it on Windows Phone (see our interview with the developer for news on that front). In the meantime, Dr. Pickaxe is fullfilling our deepest wizard desires by offering a solid sequel to their previous effort.

Check out our quick video review after the break...

Welcome to an Xbox Live Developer Interview long in the making! Seriously, we’ve been promising this one for a while, and at last it’s ready. Today we chat with Mel Kirk, Jack—of-all-trades at Zen Studios. Zen is hard at work porting their XBLA hit Pinball FX2 to Windows Phone. Thankfully they made the time to tell Windows Phone Central all about their love for pinball, potential licensed tables for the future, and of course, their plans for Microsoft's mobile phone platform.

Head past the break for the full interview, tons of behind the scenes photos, and wonderful Marvel concept art!

Our friends at Xbox360Achievements.org recently spent some face time with Microsoft’s Raymond Estrada, who showcased several current and upcoming Xbox live titles for them. The video is our first chance to see several of these games in motion, plus it confirms a few choice details like Pinball FX 2’s payment structure. Head past the break for a full description of each game and links to our previous coverage.
