It looks like the next Assassin's Creed game will be set in Northern Europe as opposed to Japan. According to a report by Kotaku, an image discovered in The Division 2 features a Norse warrior holding the Apple of Eden.
The Apple of Eden is a prominent artifact which plays an important role in a number of Assassin's Creed games, and it looks like it's going to return in the next installment.
Kotaku reached out to Ubisoft for comment but, as expected, the company didn't provide any statement on what the image meant in the game. Unless this is an elaborate hoax on the part of the publisher, we may be sailing frigid seas in the next title. Maybe the Viking period will happen after the Japanese game? It's all just speculation at this point.
What do you think about the image spotted in The Division 2? Let us know.

The continuation of a popular franchise
One of Ubisoft's most-anticipated new titles is The Division 2, the sequel to the popular first game that launched back in 2016. The Division 2 is a third-person military shooter.

If the next one is Vikings I won't play it
hopefully sailing will not be required to complete the game
Vikings would be a fantastic option for Assassin's Creed in my eyes as the combat (even though it's very entertaining ATM) could be tinkered with as they were very aggressive, tactical and stealthy warriors. And there mythology is fantastic and could really bring a lot to the Assassin's Creed franchise
I have to agree it would be pretty amazing. They done a decent job with Origins so I'd be happy to see this.
Lucky they didn't go Feudal Japan what with Seikiro and Ghosts coming out it wouldn't have looked very original.
I think Vikings done right could be good just less of the grinding and the super large maps please.
Feudal Japan is one of my favourite timelines so I hope they get around to it someday. But like you said avoiding something around the time of Seikiro was a good idea.
I would like a Feudal Japan AC game at some point too, would be cool, just not this year so it can stand in the spotlight by itself. Hopefully the AC devs have soften on their stance and it can be a reality.
One day we will get our modern day AC game... one day.
I would like a ww1 version where I can finally play as a German assasin
