A fake script was used to keep Xbox Series X secret, design 'ideal' for limited editions
More details keep on trickling in.
What you need to know
- Xbox Series X is the name of Microsoft's Project Scarlett console.
- It's launching in Holiday 2020.
- In order to keep it a secret, a fake The Game Awards 2019 script was used.
- Xbox head Phil Spencer believes the minimalist design will lead to excellent limited editions.
At The Game Awards 2019, Microsoft surprised everyone by revealing the Xbox Series X. However, in order to keep this reveal a secret, the company and The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley had to take a lot of precautions. One of them was to practice with a fake script which teased some new announcement about Xbox Game Pass.
One of the ways we kept the Xbox Series X a surprise is revealed in this @variety story: In rehearsals @XboxP3 read a fake script about Game Pass. The first time he mentioned Series X was during the live show. https://t.co/JHRKyU7ZseOne of the ways we kept the Xbox Series X a surprise is revealed in this @variety story: In rehearsals @XboxP3 read a fake script about Game Pass. This is quite an ingenious solution. I wonder if that fake Xbox Game Pass announcement leaked. Do you think Control coming to Xbox Game Pass was on that fake script and Xbox head Phil Spencer accidentally said that during the livestream?
The Xbox Series X is a black, rectangular tower that blends into the background. It's minimalist and looks quite sleek. According to Windows Central's own comparisons, the upcoming console is roughly double that of the Xbox One X. Given the fact that it promises 12 teraflops of power, it's probably going to need a lot of space for cooling. It'll be interesting to see it disassembled once Microsoft starts sending them out.
Given the shape of the Xbox Series X, it allows Microsoft to go nuts with limited edition consoles. There are a lot of mockups already floating around on Twitter. Hopefully, the designs will be bold like the Gears 5 Xbox One X which featured the Omen logo encased in snow. Even Spencer commented on the possibilities.
One thing we really like about the design is the ability to do do LE editions, wraps, custom etc. It wasn't a design criteria (that was all about the function of the console) but the result leaves a nice forward face for some creative opportunities. One thing we really like about the design is the ability to do do LE editions, wraps, custom etc. It wasn't a design criteria (that was all about the function of the console) but the result leaves a nice forward face for some creative opportunities.— Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) December 18, 2019December 18, 2019
