What you need to know
- Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a popular online competitive physics-based gauntlet multiplayer game.
- Up until now, Fall Guys was exclusive to PlayStation and PC.
- Fall Guys will be heading to both Xbox and Nintendo Switch this summer.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is an incredible party game that blew up last summer. The cutesy online obstacle course battle royale title is built by Devolver Digital and Mediatonic, and was announced for Nintendo Switch during the firm's recent Direct showcase. Thankfully, the game is also heading to Xbox consoles in the Summer of 2021, with no fully fixed launch date.
In Fall Guys, you play as a customizable creature, thing, complete with piles of cosmetic unlocks in a wide variety of strange and quirky obstacle gauntlets. The physics-based mayhem makes for great viewing and accessible gaming in short bursts, with low time and cognitive investment. That said, Fall Guys can be deceptively tough, as you navigate the game's various hazards and physics chaos, as you climb over your competitors to gain victory. Head here for a full list of Fall Guys mini-games, and over here for a full list of Fall Guys legendary skin unlocks.
Fall Guys is also now leveraging Microsoft's PlayFab, Game Stack, and Azure technologies to improve its online infrastructure. When the game blew up last year, server problems were a common complaint, but have since abated as Mediatonic grew to meet demand.
With Fall Guys heading to Xbox, we could end up seeing some quirky cross-over skins, similarly to how Fortnite picked up a Master Chief skin a few months ago. Fall Guys already has DOOM-themed unlocks, which, of course, will soon be a Microsoft IP, following the big Bethesda/ZeniMax acquisition expected to go through very soon.
We don't have any further details on when Fall Guys will join Xbox consoles beyond the summer timeframe, and whether those older rumors of Fall Guys joining Xbox Game Pass will pan out. Either way, those who missed out on the game will soon be able to dive in in the coming months.
