A slightly odd and amusing saga has mostly come to a close, with a new leak confirming what many have been guessing for months, as longtime Resident Evil mainstay Leon Kennedy will be present in Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
The leak comes as players noticed a new image for Resident Evil Requiem on the PlayStation Store (via IGN) that quite clearly shows a more grizzled, bearded Leon in the background behind the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. What makes this chuckle-worthy is how Capcom has responded (or rather, how it hasn't) to inquiries surrounding Leon over the past few months since the game was announced.
For months, rumors and reports swirled that Leon was in the game as a secondary playable character after Grace, though with disagreements as to just how significant Leon's role would be. Personally, I'm expecting something similar to Chris Redfield in Resident Evil Village, where Chris was playable for a specific sequence but was clearly the secondary protagonist behind Ethan Winters.
Fans looking forward to seeing more of Resident Evil Requiem can look forward to the Game Awards 2025, where it's confirmed that Capcom will be showing another look at its next survival-horror experience.
Maybe this will even coincide with the official unveiling of Leon Kennedy in the game? I got to see some hands-off gameplay of Resident Evil Requiem back during Summer Game Fest 2025, while executive editor Jez Corden later got to play that same demo during Gamescom. We both came away impressed, and Resident Evil Requiem is easily one of my most-anticipated games for next year.
Fortunately, I won't be waiting long to play it (and neither will you), because Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to arrive on Feb. 27, 2026. Are you excited for the latest entry? Let me know in the comments.
Resident Evil Requiem is slated to launch on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (Epic Games Store and Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
