Why buy the Microsoft Surface Laptop (7th Edition)?

Clear out work early with the fast-performing Microsoft Surface Laptop (7th Edition) (Image credit: Windows Central (Zac Bowden) | Microsoft)

The configuration of the Microsoft Surface Laptop (7th Edition) we're spotlighting comes with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, a Snapdragon Elite X CPU, and an NPU at 45 TOPS.

The Snapdragon Elite X processor is far more powerful than its Snapdragon X Plus counterpart, with 12 cores and 3.8-4.3GHz clock speeds to help whatever computer it's hooked up to power through demanding workloads, transfer files more quickly, and boot up faster.

AI tasks are also no match for this Copilot+ PC, as its 45 TOPS help boost its AI capabilities for generating art in Cocreator, hosting video calls in Windows Studio Effects, and retracing your computer's activity history with Recall.

Other notable highlights of this laptop include a perfected clamshell design that gives it a sleek appearance while being lightweight for travel, a respectable 20 hours of battery life, and a 13.8-inch Touchscreen display with 2304x1536 resolution, 120Hz refresh rates, and 600 nits of max brightness for clearer screen clarity and contrast.

So, if you're in the market for a reliable AI laptop that can handle your work assignments in a jiffy, then we cannot recommend the Surface Laptop (7th Edition) that's now on sale for $1,162.36 at Amazon enough, as it's one of our favorite Windows laptops.

FAQs

Can I replace its SSD, RAM and Batteries?

The SSD can be replaced with a larger one by removing the old from the laptop's M2.2230 SSD slot. Its battery can be replaced, but it will require work and special tools as the battery is glued into the Microsoft Surface laptop (7th Edition) with adhesive and secured with screws.

As for its RAM, it can't be replaced as it's soldered into the laptop's motherboard.

Can it handle playing video games?

Light games like Minecraft will function okay, and even a couple of demanding titles, with the help of Microsoft's Auto SR upscaler program. But if you want to play AAA PC games at their full graphical and framerate potential, you're better off getting a dedicated gaming laptop or PC.

Do specific apps run well on Snapdragon X Elite processors?

Most ARM64 and legacy x86-64 apps will function well on the Microsoft Surface Laptop (7th Edition)'s Snapdragon X Elite CPU, especially with the aid of Prism translation.

However, specific apps that rely on low-level kernel drivers, like anti-cheat gaming systems, VPNs, and antivirus programs, will often fail to function on the laptop.
