IT certifications are incredibly valuable to earn when pursuing a career in information technology. There are a number of providers who offer IT certifications, such as Windows, VMware, and Cisco. To earn your certification, however, you need to pass an exam.
We recently explored what exactly CompTIA is, and today, we'll be exploring how to sign up for a CompTIA IT certification exam. CompTIA, or the Computer Technology Industry Association, is one of the biggest providers of IT certifications, offering a number of vendor-neutral certifications for professionals at all points in their IT careers.
Before taking a certification exam, you'll need to prepare with the proper course material. Whether you're still considering a career in IT, or if you have a certification and a few years of experience under your belt, you can benefit from this comprehensive CompTIA certification training bundle, which you'll find on our Digital Offers store for $59.
Registering for a certification exam
Once you've studied the proper course material and are familiar with the exam objectives, you'll be ready to take your first exam! But before you sharpen your pencils, there are a couple of steps you need to complete.
First, you'll need to visit CompTIA's Marketplace, where you'll find an exam voucher for your chosen certification. Once you purchase an exam voucher, you'll be sent a voucher code; more on how to redeem that in a bit. Your voucher code will be valid for 12 months, so be sure to sign up for a test before it expires.
CompTIA's exams are proctored by Pearson VUE. You'll need to create an account on Pearson VUE's website so you can schedule an appointment for your exam. You can choose the certification exam you'd like to take, the location you'd like to exam, and the exam date. If you haven't purchased an exam voucher through the CompTIA Marketplace, you can also do it here.
A few popular CompTIA certifications and their exams
There are numerous CompTIA certifications out there, but if you've just started your IT career, the three most popular certifications you can earn are A+, Network+, and Security+. These initial certifications will give you a broad knowledge of hardware, network implementation, and security concepts.
Additional IT certifications
There are a variety of certifications you can earn that go beyond the basics, but buying training material can be costly. For example, CompTIA Network+ certification training can cost up to $300 alone, and this doesn't factor in the cost of your test voucher. You'll also have to buy additional training courses with every certification you plan on earning.
As it so happens, the CompTIA certification training bundle on our Digital Offers store is currently available for $59 and will include training material for A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications, as well as content for advanced certifications such as CySA+ and CASP.
