What you need to know

  • The action-RPG genre is absolutely packed with fantastic entries and options for players, so it's hard to stand out.
  • Kitaria Fable's claim to fame is its adorable kawaii visuals and unique blend of features from other genres like farming.
  • Alongside a new gameplay trailer, Kitaria Fables has finally earned a release date: Sept. 2, 2021.
  • Kitaria Fables is heading to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC platforms.

One of the most adorable games announced this year has indubitably been Kitaria Fables, the latest entry in the competitive field of action-RPGs that contains heavy hitters like Minecraft Dungeons, the upcoming Diablo 4, and the imminent The Ascent. Still, Kitaria Fables is padding ahead on well-cushioned paws with its striking visuals and seemingly unique blend of gameplay elements from a variety of games and genres. Today, we got a new gameplay trailer for Kitaria Fables and an actual release date.

Kitaria Fables officially heads to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC, PS5, PS4, and Switch on Sept. 2, 2021, meaning players have just over one month before they can roleplay as an awfully powerful cat in a too-cute world. Kitaria Fables is not coming to Xbox Game Pass at this time, or at least it hasn't been confirmed.

In case you've missed it, Kitaria Fables is an action-RPG where players will defeat a variety of enemies to unlock new abilities and skills, discover powerful new loot, customize various loadouts, and more to become as strong as possible. Unlike other action-RPGs, though, Kitaria Fables also lets players craft, gather resources, farm, and make friends with the other creatures in "Paw Village."

It'll be interesting to see if Kitaria Fables can successfully pull off delivering a satisfactory ARPG experience on top of its other gameplay elements, as the genre is notoriously difficult to nail. Still, the game is certainly adorable, and far too many cat-based puns went through my head while writing this. Only time will tell if Kitaria Fables has what it takes to earn a place on our list of best Xbox games.
