Wow Burning Crusade ClassicSource: Blizzard Entertainment

What you need to know

  • World of Warcraft: Classic released in August 2019.
  • Blizzard Entertainment is planning on giving the same treatment to its first expansion, The Burning Crusade.
  • The news was BlizzConline today.

Blizzard Entertainment announced at BlizzConline that it plans to release World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic sometime in 2021.

The news isn't particularly surprising since developers have been talking about that possibility since before World of Warcraft: Classic even launched in August 2019. Blizzard has also released all of the the content featured in the original version of the MMORPG, so letting players experience its first expansion in the same way seems like an obvious next step.

Originally released in 2007, the expansion takes players through the Dark Portal to Outland in order to fight the demonic Burning Legion and stop it from invading Azeroth. It will also give players the chance to earn flying mounts and play two new races: Blood Elves and Draenei. Since the game is free for all players with an active World of Warcraft subscription, players will choose if they want to enter the expansion or to stay on a server that sticks to the classic experience.
