PrimeTube for Windows Phone gets a new player in latest update, continues to impress

'Overly Attached Girlfriend' approves of the latest PrimeTube update

Although it was nice seeing old-time favorite MetroTube land back on the Marketplace last week, we don’t want to lose sight of some other fantastic YouTube viewers. PrimeTube fits the bill nicely and it just received a solid update to version 2.1 (v2.0 hit last month).

According to the developer, version 2.1 brings “a new player, UI refreshes, speedier performance and bug fixes” which sounds to us like some nice improvements. Indeed, loading up the app and swiping through the pages is buttery smooth and the player itself is laid out quite nicely with options for High Definition (HD), High Quality (HQ) and Low Quality (LQ) which came with the version 2.0 overhauls.

You can’t directly download videos for offline-viewing with PrimeTube but you can pin to Start, favorite, leave comments and share links with others. In addition, you can upload video which is certainly a nice option for those of you who want to share your experiences with others (hopefully this is native in Windows Phone 8).

Overall, PrimeTube is one of our favorite YouTube apps for Windows Phone. It’s fast, smooth and has a very clean, Metro UI. Best part? It’s free with no ads which means at the very least you should download to give it a shot.

Pick up PrimeTube v2.1 here in the Windows Phone Marketplace for the low, low price of nothing.

  • I really like PrimeTube. Just discoverd it and have now deleted all other YouTube apps.
  • I used to recommend PrimeTube to everyone, but now that MetroTube is back they'll have some stiff competition.
  • Same. I used to love PrimeTube when MetroTube left the market, but now I'm switching back to MT.
  • Primetime has two issues for me. No ability to watch the videos in vertical positioning in a smaller window while you are scrolling through the comments. And the time slider in the app's video player is a disaster. It's a nice app , but as others pointed out, being thrown on the backseat with the rest of the YouTube apps, after the revival of the almighty Metrotube.
  • Supertube for me... Why? Because I can DL videos and watch them later offline :)
  • I have supertube but to use download feature you have install a stupid app for desktop. Also too many bugs on supertube. The inbox dont show all emails so yes metrotube or Primetime better
  • What app on the desktop?? I got mine through marketplace, and have never had to download any desktop app to download videos??
  • He's being hyperbolic (or idiotic). You need the desktop app ONLY if you want to transfer the files to your PC. You definitely don't need the app to just download to your device and watch later.
  • i use supertube  , metrotube or Primetime no inbox function ,  3g stream video lag and no vevo music
  • If primetube or metrotube if any of the two have feature will make it more a great app
  • Sick of seeing this girl. Shes always on Metrotube title.
  • She's ugly too but YouTube seems to prefer white girls over Latinas
  • Yes, you're right, YouTube is racist and prefers white girls as oppose to just ranking videos by popularity.  We need to get new commenters here, this new batch is embarrasing.
  • Well explain why a white girl can do very sexual moves in a thong but my friend can't even post a belly dancing video.
  • Lmao, you can pin your subscriptions and it'll show the latest uploads of your subscribed channels.
  • if you pin metrotube app its self. it shows the most viewed videos on the secondary tile. her videos are always most viewed for some odd reason. view botted?
  • I'll stick with IE for my YouTube needs, don't need an app for everything.
  • IE is "awful" for YouTube, in comparison to Supertube for example. No slider on videos, and the immobile interface is slow and cumbersome.
  • Anyone know why I can't stream the audio from a youtube through my car's bluetooth?  HTC Trophy running 7.5 btw.  Slacker works, just can't seem to get any Youtube's through it.  TIA
  • Works with my Titan. Everything streaming to BT, but, never tryed YouTube through IE. But seeing everything worked so good I wonder if it merely is a BT compatible thingy.
  • Your car might have the old MS BT stack? (BT is a bad service, to much compatibility issues.
  • I dunno.  It's a 2012 Escape with Sync.  My DX would stream just fine though so one would think that a MS device itself would work just as well with its on product (Sync).
  • WOW. With this release vids finally is smooth on my Omnia7, might even replace Metrotube, they are tied right now. Good job.
  • Stutters on Lumia 900 when scrolling, really annoying.
  • This is a nice app, but I think Supertube is better. Try it out.
  • Looks great, works OK. Metrotube is still slightly faster for me.
