Should you buy a Surface Dock 2 for your Surface Laptop 4?

Best answer: If you like blowing up your laptop display on a large monitor while at your desk, the Surface Dock 2 is an excellent device to pair with your Surface Laptop 4.

Why go with Surface Dock 2 for your Surface Laptop 4?

The main thing that makes the Surface Dock 2 such a good docking station is it supports up to two 4K displays at 60 FPS or two 5K ones at 30 FPS. This allows you to easily turn your device into the ultimate workstation without hassle, which is fantastic if you're someone who needs to edit visual media or prefer a sharper and more detailed view. The dock also comes with four USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, a slot for 3.5mm audio, and a gigabit Ethernet port. This gives you supreme connectivity, which will undoubtedly come in handy if you've got a lot of peripherals you want to use. Lastly, the Surface Dock 2 features 199W of power output with 120W of that total available to charge the Surface you've connected to the dock. This leaves the rest of the power output to charge and power up any added peripherals.

The Surface Laptop 4 is one of the most advanced laptops Microsoft has ever released, and when you see the specs, it becomes clear why. Between Intel 11th Gen and AMD Ryzen 4000, there are plenty of superb CPU options that deliver all the productivity power you will need — especially since they come with Intel Iris Xe or Radeon RX graphics, which are both very strong in terms of performance. With up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage available, the Surface Laptop 4 will always have enough free memory and storage to handle what you throw at it. The 13-inch 2256x1504 and 15-inch 2496x1664 displays on the Surface Laptop 4 also look great, and if you like to draw or jot down notes, you can do so since the displays are touch-enabled. The 17-19 hour battery life is the cherry on top, as it ensures you'll never have to worry about being tethered to a charger.

The Surface Laptop 4 is also excellent for connectivity, as it comes with support for Wi-Fi 6, which is the latest and best Wi-Fi standard. It also has a ton of ports, including USB-C, USB-A, Surface Connect, and 3.5 mm audio. Bluetooth 5.0 is included, too, which will be helpful if you've got Bluetooth peripherals. Finally, the laptop is also only 2.84 lbs (13-inch) or 3.4 lbs (15-inch) and is only just over a half-inch thick. This makes the device very portable and easy to take with you wherever you go.

Overall, the Surface Laptop 4 is awesome all around. Since it's arguably one of the best Windows laptops available right now, it's a great device to combo with the Surface Dock 2.
