Stay comfortable with Cozy- Nest Client, today's AdDuplex HERO App

Cozy – Nest Client has been an app for Windows Phone for some time now and is a great way to monitor your thermostat while out and about. The app is also available from the Windows 10 Store and leverages some of the cool features of the OS. Both are staff favorites and we can see why it was chosen as one of this month's AdDuplex HERO Apps.

The HERO Apps program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network and partners AdDuplex with myAppFree, AppDeals, PluralSight and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.

Today we turn your attention towards Cozy – Nest Client from Rohit Rajendran

Cozy – Nest Client is the unofficial client app for not only the Nest thermostat but also the Nest Protect: Smoke + Carbon Monoxide devices. First, let me state the obvious. You need a Nest device to use the Cozy – Nest Client app. You can pick them up at various third-party retailers, such as, or from Nest directly. They can be self-installed if you are so inclined and run about $100 for the Smoke + Carbon Monoxide device (opens in new tab) and $250 for the current generation thermostat (opens in new tab).

Key features of Cozy – Nest Client include:

  • Change the temperature, HVAC mode and fan timer on your thermostat
  • Set away mode on or off
  • Pin individual thermostats as Live Tiles
  • Toast Notification support for Nest Protect alerts and emergencies
  • Cortana integration to change the temperature or change your away status

It should be noted that the Nest API does not support push notifications, so the messages are not instant.

Cozy – Nest Client has a clean interface and easy set-up. All of which, makes it convenient to manage your household climate while on the go or from the comfort of your recliner. It is a favorite of several of our staff members and we highly recommend you give Cozy – Nest Client is you own a Nest product.

  • Great app, use it all the time!
  • As do I. I wish there was a way to edit the schedule (only because it's the single missing thing on there) other than that, its an awesome app.
  • For those unaware, Nest is owned by Google, so if you're hesitant to let Google anywhere near your personal data, buying Nest might not be a good idea for you. If you already have Nest, though, this seems like a good app to control it via Windows Phone.
  • Cozy worked up to about 10pm for me last night. No longer loads. I've installed, rebooted, soft reset, etc, no longer loads. :( windows 10 mobile on L830. Anybody else experiencing problems with it?
  • Its an OK app. I use but seems to get names mixed up..I have 2 nest protects but only 1 shows but doubled, unless it just has name wrong. Sometimes temperature I am setting on downstairs unit is really upstairs, etc so needs some work. Also no way to add new nest protects with app unless using/setup from iphone. Pain in ass. Have to install nest app on son's phone, install/change nest protects then can use app.
  • What I do like about this app, in particular, is that this is actually sanctioned by Nest and has worked with the developer. This should be a shining example on how the big companies should treat indie devs. No matter what the motive is behind that decision, at least its an olive branch to Windows devs. I just wish Nest would allow more improvements to share with this developer so it can be function more like their native app.
  • Good app and a great developer. I want to support Rohit (the developer) as we desperately need more developers like him. I do not know him personally but I have helped test a couple of his apps. Responsive and friendly developers are key to any platforms success.
