What you need to know

  • The Surge 2 is an action game from Deck13 Interactive and Focus Home Interactive.
  • The game is available on Xbox One and other platforms.
  • It's getting a season pass soon with a lot of new additions.
  • You can purchase The Surge 2 for $60 on Amazon.

Updated November 14, 2019: The season pass is now available on the Microsoft Store for $20. It promises new weapons as well as story content.

The Surge is an incredibly popular Dark Souls-like experience which launched in 2017. A little over two years later, The Surge 2 is available on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Instead of being a new factory worker named Warren, you step into the shoes of a customizable protagonist whose plane is shot down by a mysterious storm and lands on the outskirts of Jericho City.

Ever since the game came out, there have been rumors floating around that it would get a season pass soon. Well, today, that was confirmed. According to a press release Windows Central received, "Stay tuned as next week will see the full reveal of The Surge 2's season pass, with more weapons, more implants, more gear sets, and a brand-new storyline... with hours of content in a new environment to be released down the line."

To celebrate this announcement, the developer released a free weapon pack that includes the deadly Golden Twin Blades, the devastating "EFH" Heavy Duty Weapon, the brutal Mangled Articulators Punching Gloves, and the versatile Golden Harvest Double Duty Weapon. As always, you'll need to find enemies wielding them and slice them off in order to acquire them. Just go to your Xbox One and search for The Surge 2. If you scroll down the game's page, you'll notice that The Future Shock Weapon Pack is now listed as a free add-on for the game.

In Windows Central's review, I wrote, "Despite this critique, the addition of deeper role-playing mechanics like choices and unpredictable campaign characters elevates The Surge 2 as a whole, alongside a huge variety of complex enemies that we shan't spoil. I was expecting the combat to see the greatest tweaks, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Don't get me wrong, this is a welcome surprise, and I can't wait to see where the developer, Deck13 Interactive, takes the franchise with the inevitable sequel."
