Mint arrives for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.1

Official apps for Mint.com now available for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.1 (US + Canada residents only)

In early March, Mint (Mint.com) famously stated that they had no plans for a Windows Phone app. Then in June, they had a change of heart (and probably some help from Microsoft) as the company announced that their financial app was headed to both Windows 8 and its Phone counterpart. Fast forward to last month and private beta testing had begun and starting today, December 4th, everyone can have Mint on their favorite Windows device.

For those who aren’t aware, Mint.com, which is now owned by Intuit (Quicken, TurboTax), is considered the must-have financial aggregation app. The service taps into any and virtually all of your institutions like banks, loans, investments, credit cards, etc. and then gives you an overview of your current status. Track your spending, plan to save money, see where your dollars are going and more.

Mint is a simple, elegant solution to a complicated monetary world. And now, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.1 users can take advantage of the free service.

UK bank Barclays has confirmed on Twitter that a Windows Phone app is currently in development. The only issue is that they have the end of the year as the deadline, which makes us assume they're very early in the development stage, aren't pouring much time and effort into it, or aren't making any promises (likely number 3). At least the bank has looked at Windows Phone as a viable platform to support.

Belgium bank KBC releases Windows Phone app

The Belgium bank KBC has released an app for Windows Phone. Joining the array of mobile banking apps already available on the Windows Phone Store, we're seeing more establishments join the train. As well as general account management, the free app for account holders also sports some unique features.

The official Twitter account for New Zealand's bank ASB (www.asb.co.nz) tweeted a photo that teases a Windows Phone app for customers to make use of mobile banking. ASB joins numerous other banks that have released apps for the platform, adding another name to the pool of officially supported apps.

While no details are included, we can see the app offering a number of features. Amongst the list of menu items is an option for exchange rates and possible conversion calculators, as well as the ability to locate nearest branches and (we'd assume) ATMs, receive quick balance checks to stay on top of the bottom line without diving into feature rich account management, visit the official ASB website and to contact the bank for enquiries.

NAB (National Australia Bank) and Microsoft have been collaborating on an official mobile banking app, which is soon to be released to the Windows Phone Marketplace. According to data compiled in a report over at WPDownUnder, NAB customers are into not only mobile banking, but they prefer to use developed apps for supported platforms. 80% of those who use Internet banking while on the move, do so with official apps from the Australian bank.

After calls and cries for an app since late 2010, NAB has officially announced an app is currently working its way through the Windows Phone Marketplace approval process and WPDownUnder expects the app to be available by August 8th. Should you be a customer and own a Windows Phone, be prepared to get highly excited at what's on the horizon regarding features and functionality to enhance your mobile banking experience.

The Dutch state-owned bank ABN AMRO has released an official mobile banking solution for Windows Phone. Much like other offerings currently available on the Marketplace, the Bankieren app enables customers of ABN AMRO to access their accounts and perform tasks they'd normally do in-branch or in front of a PC.

Before we crack into what's included in the app, and why you should definitely check it out should you be a customer of the bank, we have to highlight just how good looking the app itself is. The developers have done a superb job keeping to Metro guidelines and have really produced some excellent work here. We'd like to see how this would look as an app in Windows 8. Anyway, on with the show.

It was only last week we covered the news of Rabobank releasing a Windows Phone app for customers who use the platform. Now we've caught wind of SNS Bank also launching a Windows Phone app. Much like the app from Rabobank, this app enables users to check their account balances, manage funds between accounts, and contact the bank via phone and email.

Some highlighted features of SNS Bank:

  • Login with your SNS Bank digital code, providing extra security.
  • Balance your check payment, savings and investment accounts.
  • All credits and debits are displayed.
  • Transfer between your owned accounts with the digital code.
  • Transfer to external accounts with your digipass.
  • Use a provided Address Book.
  • Convenient access to contact SNS Bank by phone or email.

To be able to login on the app, you'll need your SNS Bank digital code. Expect to see more updates released later this year from the bank, including mobile PIN. They are listening to customers for future feature requests, so be sure to let your voice be heard on anything you'd like to see implemented. You can download SNS Bank from the Marketplace for free.
