Video hands-on with Windows 10 for the Lumia 830

Earlier today, Microsoft suddenly decided to push out the long-awaited Windows 10 for phone preview. Although it is currently limited to just a subset of Lumia phones one of them is the Lumia 830 (AT&T).

After a good hour of setting up the Insider app, downloading, installing and then playing around we finally have our hands-on video. We'll go through and show you what's new and include our initial thoughts.

If you need more information on how to get Windows 10 on your phone, head to our how-to page.

  • Awsome..
  • It does! Although, I hope they make an option for settings to display individually and in alphabetical order, like the control panel: You can view category, large icons, or medium icons.
  • I don't think that's gonna happen.. It's not wp anymore.. It's just a small version of w10..,so they have to follow some similarities with the pc version as well..
  • And thanks Daniel for the video... Really appreciated:)
  • My start screen on L635 hasn't changed. Weird
  • Got to settings and try to find a solution.. Or give your feedback through insider app.. They will fix it soon :)
  • Change background
  • What I did is reboot my 635, and selected a background again. Ot worked.
  • Same thing here...just reselected my background I had pre-update and it changed to the new style.
  • Hate those white backgrounds in dark theme...
  • Go to settings and set up start screen
  • The tiles does change. U can now make a real huge tile
  • That was really impressive.. Now i can see all my entries in calendar with that massive tile :)
  • the calendar doesnt seem to be the new version that has been shown in videos.  The tile doesnt go gigantic just normal Wide tile.
  • No kidding. Can't wait to put this on my 635 when I get home from work.
  • I still don't like the transparency...
  • You will get used to it ... And you will love it as well...soon :)
  • + Daniel forgot to mention Brand new File Explorer app . .. ;)
  • yeah but i don't see if the color of folders depend on accent color anymore. i like that feature with variable colors.
  • That's optional....happy? :)
  • Not optional on that build, and the old in-tile background is not there -.-
  • Yeah, i think i liked that in tile parallax view stuff better. Hopefully Microsoft puts an option Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Yes it will be an option. Joe tweeted it already.
  • U have to take the background off and put it back again.
  • Me neither
  • Use the Feedback App or vote here: https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/sug...
  • http://i.imgur.com/XyaiTPC.jpg This was my hope for continuum. Hopefully they integrate this kind of transparency. http://i.imgur.com/WqvkNdS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CPQ2ZaK.jpg
  • What about music app?
  • Second this, it would be nice to see a hands-on for the new music app that was shown off in the Windows Phone 10 vid by Joe B.
  • yeah..im waiting for a hands-on video too.
  • I will miss transparent tiles. Anyway, I wasn't expecting it to be THAT similar to wp 8.1.
  • My guess is that you will eventually be able to adjust the transparency, like they added to Xbox One.
  • The real question is..when can my 1520 have it?
  • I dont think i like it, looks like a confusing nightmare !  Might go back to Lollypop !
  • Been waiting for this, nice :D
  • Is that really "device encryption" under the system settings? Does it work? I've been waiting for this!
  • Worst part was the new dialer -.- what was inital print on their mind to get that. .!, well I ain't complaining but expectations even in earlier builds there is some expectation that it will be better but feedback app will come to help :)
  • Wow
  • I want it on my Ascend W1...
  • Thank you, Daniel! :)
  • +1
  • I have 830 too... But "no builds" message :(
  • Make sure you get fast release
  • Thank you for the reply. When I click on "Get preview builds" it brings me to screen where it says "no builds" (we weren't able to find a preview build for you please confirm). Trying to hypnotize it, but that is not working either :D
  • Have you signed up for the insider program at https://insider.windows.com/ with the Microsoft account you are using with the Windows Insider app on your phone?
  • Sure, I´m in the insider program since it was released. I´ve tried to log in the app with several microsoft accounts that I´ve created and registered with them to the insider program.
  • Same here. When I insert my codes at insider program loading and after that not builds found. Lumia 830
  • i have the same problem, showing no builda available. I have a Rogers 830 in Canada. what carrier is your phone on??+
  • Hi, no idea what can we do. I'm in the Vodafone network.
  • Guys if you find a solution please tell us
  • I've got the same problem with an 830.  Even tried reinstalling 8.1.  Just get the same 'No Builds' Error message even though I'm using my Microsoft account which is registered for the insiders programme. Boo!
  • Same here. 830 with newest 8.1
  • Awesome. That's the job you ought to do :) love ya man.
  • 1520 please!!
  • 1520 users REJOICE! We will fight Microsoft untill we get the windows 10 preview and we will not be satisfied until then.
  • Don't you mean Revolt!
  • And by fight, you mean cry like a baby on Windows Central 20 times a day.
  • That was quick. :) Great job

  • Let see it on a 630 too, performance a and speed wise
  • Characterizing performance on a technical preview seems kind of pointless.
  • Yessir Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Do we still have the option for backgrounds like in 8.1 and make the tiles transparent instead with a black background?
  • Doesn't look like it, at least not in this build. And frankly don't expect it to return - the transparency is probably another thing they will make the same between PC and phone versions.
  • yep, noticed they did that with the february Xbox One update as well. Transparent tiles with no transparency option.
  • I hope they bring it back D= I love my current background, its unique and pretty
  • vote here: https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/sug...
  • My 1520 is green with envy. Oh wait, actually that's just the color of the phone ;-)
  • Lol nice.
  • Kewl. Did I miss if the tiles rotate in landscape like on my tablet and if they match.
  • I also wish to know if there is landscape mode on the start screen.
  • Can you do a phone by phone comparation between 10 and 8.1 denim, starting, opening apps? Thx
  • 10 sucks
  • There's no point, at this time. 10 is so buggy and unoptimized.
  • It suckkkkkkkkkkks so bad now :,(
  • You must be blind...!
  • I think he means the ugly UI in most apps.
  • Support that view
  • I agree with you t.cross. Looking this video took all my "waiting for it" feeling away completely for wp10 :| I really hope they make the UI consistent because now it looks like a bad windowsphone-like android skin.
  • I do have to admit the whole settings screen looks a little andriod like. Colors, font, and size. But, I'm not complainin
  • Looks like android from 2 years ago. Looks absolutely nothing like lollipop which is miles ahead in design now. Something you couldn't say a year ago when you have 8/8.1 to compare it to. Sad. Posted via Windows Phone Central App
  • Use the feedback app, please
  • I'm too lazy for that lol
  • LOL, I hope they lake it really easy to use.
  • Give them time. It's a technical preview not a finished build.
  • They don't listen anyways what's the point they listen to one or two things and do wtf they want lol
  • Lol yall gotta keep hope alive man. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Just worried they'll make even more Android like changes as time goes on. That menu burger moved to the unreachable upper left is the worst. Switching from black to white screens is second. Then it does look almost exactly like using a WP8 launcher on Android. Same inconsistencies and all.
  • Yeah I didn't really like the inconsistencies between the black and white backgrounds either but that should be a small thing to correct. And hopefully the put the menu buttons back to the bottom. But this should be a nice journey being able to help form the finished product through useful feedback and ongoing interaction. I'm hoping the finished release will be luring enough to bring me back to Windows Phone. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Yes! It just looks so awful. Terrible design, controls, backgrounds. W10 is heading towards a terrible Vista mess in terms of UX :((
  • Hmmm.. I like the new design
  • The new UI in most apps and menus is fugly to me. Confirms I'll be sticking with WP8.1 until it's dead. Then moving on somewhere else I suppose.
  • Wow. Way to write off an in-progress product based on its design before the design team have even had a chance to have some input on it.
  • No, he's right. ALL of the apps are moving toward this ugly UI. The ones that still look like the old Windows Phone just haven't been changed yet. They're not going to change the whole look of the UI even if e complain. They might tweak it, but it'll still look pretty much the way it does now.
  • Dude, this shit is basically done. They aren't going to change the seeing at the last minute. It is ugly and that is unfortunate. That was really the last thing you could say about 8/8.1 which was unique and visually appealing. This is just a mess. Posted via Windows Phone Central App
  • I know that this is the Technical Preview but Jonnie does have a point. The UI does need some major work to get it ready for release. Are they still planning on mid to late summer for final release?
  • Please give them your feedback
  • Have you seen windows 10 final build!? Oh wait no you haven't...
  • You do realize that if the majority of the Insiders feel the same way and respectfully verbalize that in the feedback, that Microsoft will likely hear you out right?
  • The new UI is beautiful for me
  • It looks so messy and a step back you must be blind Daniel doesn't sound excited about it he sounds like meh its ok ill deal with it
  • Really? This just shows that people read each other differently. To me Daniel sounded excited and had a good observative and analytical touch to this quick review. Thanks, Daniel! :)
  • And of course it may look messy for some people (for me it didn't). It's an early build of technical preview, after all. If you install W10 on your phone, please be so kind and give as much polite and constructive feedback to Microsoft as possible.
  • He sounds like he does in ALL of his videos = positive. His emotions don't sway in the wind like most of the superfanboys here.
  • Lol this is a tp. Not all the menus and submenus' are updated yet so logically there's going to be some inconsistencies. This is why they normally don't release a tp. Because ppl complaining about logical things.
  • Wow... so inconsistent... I don't see how they could change that into "ONE" experience... Now I'm glad that I can not install it to my L930... Will wait for a more developed build...
  • It's funny, everyone who didn't get to install it is being super negative about it. Hilarious.
  • Because unfortunately all the articles written by wc seem to have ignored. They warned that it is a tp not a dp. This means ui, logo, button etc inconsistencies. Yet some treat it like a fully finished product.
  • is the vertical tile size also available?
  • Yes but only the people tile and the cortana tile support, at least from what I have found.
  • nice !
  • AT&T 830 user here. Netflix still doesn't work on W10, and the Lumia Camera 5 will not open either. I was hoping dealing with a buggy build would at least get me Demin features. But, alas, not so.
  • Denim is a firmware update it has nothing to do with the OS version. So no, wihtout actually getting Denim you cannot use its features even with Windows 20.
  • oh the agony, the app doesn't work on a version of the OS that is in the early technical preview stage, was just recently released and is far from final build! "still doesn't work" SMH
  • ^Mhm. I also believe I read in an article on Windows Central that some apps may not work. People complaining but they were warned. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • It looks like Android fused with windows phone :(
  • It looks nothing like Android.....
  • It does. Although its a TP the settings looks ripped from android. I hope they change that, and make it look more like WP8.x :/
  • You know I'm not even so mad anymore that they haven't released this for the 822. I think the bugs might have gotten annoying for me, but mainly because it seems under developed, like the first release of win10 for pc. I'm thinking that by the time they roll the preview out for all phones it'll be feature rich like the win10 preview for PC is now.
  • I'm so disappointed I don't even want to install just the new messaging and text to speech on the keyboard seem cool
  • The blue screen I actually because of the accent color, not anything to do with the "Blue Screen" we often think about.
  • Just my opinion, but I'm not all that impressed.  Start screen looks awkward because of the different levels of transparency, and it seems that they've only "enhanced" and re-designed the built-in apps.  I am looking forward to the new Office experience, because I'm a student and use those programs, but that's pretty much it.  Honestly, I expected a bit more.  And yes, I know it's a preview, but after nearly a year since the last major release (8.1), this is it?
  • Cool!
  • That was fast
  • Let me guess. They're taking away the awesome transparent tiles feature from WP8.1 in W10? Just what I figured.
  • If you look closely, there is still some transparency level on the tiles (Here drive for example), but it does look weird. I prefer the full transparency as on 8.1, but guess this is an issue regarding apps optimalization (the same as tiles sizes). I guess a lot of things are to be improved, not mentioning the voice of users which is this all about (meaning give them feedback).
  • Hmm.. not liking many of the UI changes at least in this early version. The lines e.g in the dialogues, the small dialogue pop up (like when pinning to start screen)... and in e.g. Neowin's pics some ugly uglu ugly oval slide-toggles mixed with the beautiful squeare ones.. hope all of this will get better and some of the PC inspired designs get rolled back a little. Not liking the look of the Calendar app either, and on the fence for the photo app. And yes the dialer looks too squat - MS, don't change things just to change things. The big new tile is great though for pictures.
  • Totally agree! They should have added more functions and features instead of breaking and removing my favorite metro-style! I'll never admit the changes! Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Checked Daniel's video. Now off to winbeta. ;)
  • Omg cool I just ate some broccoli
  • Toe Broccoli?
  • Thanks for the video :)
  • music app
  • Preview sucks
  • :(
  • Basically its the bloody same as WP8
  • No, worse! When the UI looks like that in the final (even if it is consistent) I am not going to upgrade and changing to Apple. Sorry, but this UI looks like BS...
  • Lmao I'm thinkin the same thing and buying a MacBook pro lol
  • Yeah, same thing here! :S ... I mean, really... I am asking myself.. what have they done the whole time? Almost no new features. Seperating apps from the OS is not a good idea... they should have learned this lesson from the xbox music app desaster. But yeah, I'll wait for the final release and than decide if I have to change bases to Apple....
  • I'm gettin tired man I really don't wanna leave
  • I'm sure you won't leave, you'll simply hang around and threaten to leave over and over, hoping someone eventually cares.
  • Nah I don't hope no one I just want MS yo get things right
  • OR, we will simply stick with Windows 7 and WP 8.1 until Microsoft creates a version of Windows that's actually worth upgrading to. How's that? If they can't convince US then there is no way they can convince those who are already in the Android and iOS camp to switch. What is there to switch to? Office? Already on those platforms because MS had to do it for its survival. Cortana will be available on competing platforms as we know. It was about good design on WP 8.1 (and not Windows 8.1) for me and that seems to be gone (this is a preview I know but seeing as the basic things even on Windows 8 modern apps haven't been fixed after all this time I am not optimistic about any major overhauls to this Preview). Then why stick around a platform that is losing its key point (the design) with adding "hamburgers" and messing up the good execution, the platform that will surely always remain behind in terms of apps and involvement with major companies and rising start-ups? Seriously, what is there but mere nostalgia and fan love? Even on the fan thing, I owned a WP7 device right before it was declared dead, and I own a Surface RT and a Surface 2 that are declared dead. So you tell me. Why shoudl I keep spending to help a company that lacks consistency everywhere except in letting people down?
  • Settings in fact exact same as in Windows 10 9926 build. Cool.
  • 10 minutes and he didn't show the keyboard?!
  • Great ! But they really did screw*d up the dial pad.
  • I hate to say it, but it reminds me of Android. Lol. Well, Android keyboard, I only have an Android Tablet without a dial pad.
  • Weirdly enough the in call dial pad is unchanged from 8.1.
  • Daniel RubHERO !!! ;)
  • Im way more excited for Denim than WP10 (1520). Just seems like an 8.2 OS update. Not really seeing a huge draw like 8.0 or even 8.1/8.1.1.
  • Can you review more detailed the alarms, calendar and mail apps and IE, too?
  • THAT DIALER make me want to stab someone. I have no idea what happened to the UX design team but man they must have the interns working on this. What were they thinking????? The header in the settings is ridiculous.
  • Agree. Sadly, alot of this seems like a step backwards. Hopefully it will all come together by official release.
  • I don't see happening man MS have bullshittin for too long its depressing just thinking I've been riding the wave ever since it was released smh
  • So does the new Cortana (that search bar specifically).
  • Is Office in this build already?
  • Literally everything looks ugly. Even for an early preview this is shocking. The notification center looks like a mess as well. What the heck are those horizontal lines between the app title and the actual notifications? It breaks up something that belongs together! The horizontal lines, if they really want them, should be between the notifications of the different apps, not below the heading. Jesus Chris. Also they removed the icons in the notification center. The heading is just a text now and the notifications themselves have repetitive icons.
  • It's like windows phone is going through a identity crisis for petes sake
  • Yeah, it's called trying to please the idiot hive-minded assholes that come to this site.

  • What have those "assholes" said to make Microsoft create this mess? They all called for consistent, user-friendly design and this is what they get. They've done to WP8 what Windows 8 did to Windows 7. WP8 (and the enhanced WP 8.1) were the ONLY successful Metro execution in the history of the terms "Metro" and "Modern". I was hoping Windows on PCs can get the right philosophy, the consistency, of Windows Phone and now I see it is the other way around. They have applied the Windows mess to the successful execution of Windows Phone and at least at this point I should say if THIS remains, I'm totally done. Just...enough already. If they don't get some designers, some actual professional app developers to work on the OS then I'm done. I've given them enough "wait for it" time. I'll keep my current WP with 8.1 as long as it runs and then I'll leave the whole thing. Haven't decided yet about Windows 10 for the PC but I'm pissed enough that I won't have too much patience for MS shenanigans anymore. It's as if they've forgotten how to create good software...like they no longer what it was, that made Windows XP a success, and why people liked Windows 7.
  • This sums it up perfectly
They have applied the Windows mess to the successful execution of Windows Phone and at least at this point I should say if THIS remains, I'm totally done.
All they had to do to Windows Phone was fix the settings list and release the touch first office apps and most people would have been happy. Yeah they could have also implement additional features like reply to toast messages and so on, however leave the design alone. I can also understand the need for the whole universal apps thing however the Windows 10 versions should have been created to match/reflect what was already in place and working well in Windows Phone or at a minimum adapted the same UI/UX. For the life of me I still don't understand why Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 don't have the ability to set white/dark theme or select an accent color so that it looks and works in the same way as Windows Phone. Like you if this doesn't improve significantly before the final build of Win 10 for phone, I am out and will happily switch over to an iPhone.
  • It's as if they are always working on something OTHER than delighting users. In addition to what you said about tweaks, Office, etc. you know what I liked to see? "Here are 10 different animations we created for the Start screen. You can choose one, for example that lays the tiles this way, or this one the tiles flip from invisible to fully visible...or you can let Windows choose one randomly for you, in the Settings" or "Here is the accent color wheel that allows you to choose whatever color you like". With Windows 8 there was no "delight" because well, they were creating the WinRT environment so they didn't focus on design and messed it all up. With Windows 10 now, they are recreating the apps as universal apps that are going to be less polished again...why? Because the first versions sucked and they had started to slowly polish the apps and they are doing it over again and have to start polishing for different sizes and knowing Microsoft, it won't be fully ready when Windows 10 comes out. I assure you (just like Windows 8 wasn't). So again we will be stuck in an unfinished project because there is a major overhaul of the system from the looks of it, because Microsoft tries to implement another huge undertaking and apparently doesn't have the resources to fully finish it. In the meantime the competing platforms are all focused on polishing the experience and actually enhancing it, not recreating everything. Sigh. Let's see how it all turns out.
  • Yea this exactly. I think it week really be finished somewhere in 2016. They will release a half assed product. No way that all of this can be polished in June.
  • Send feedback through the app nicely instead of complaining here.
  • Hahaha
  • Is there a way to do it without installing anything? They do need to hear a few things.
  • We can do both.
  • Windows phone is dead mannnnn I'm pissed I don't see how any of this bullshitt is going to get people to switch
  • What do you want them to do ? Stop bitching , if you don't like it, switch to Android
  • I want them to go back to the original concept duh and stay focus on it
  • I kinda agree. Remember how beautiful WP7 was? I miss that.
This one looks like android but more buggy and without the apps :/
  • Wp 7 was WP7. WP 10 isn't WP7.
  • Microsoft just moving along with time. People want that Modern UI. Everything is awesome. And Universal Apps is great way to convince your friends to switch. And at least it isn't final product. If you don't like any features, just write feedback. They surely will listen to your feedback
  • You still believe they listen to us?lol
  • Ow yes its a tp for God's sake. And obviously the "original" idea didn't sell. Probably lost money on it, now they want more market share vy getting more mainstream I guess. Still it's not a finished product, lol ms will never release a tp again.
  • That isn't windows 10 yet. That's windows phone 8.1.5
  • No. It looks like Windows Phone XP to me.
  • Daniel, please write something about the device encryption in the system settings!
  • The message app... :(
  • Exciting to buy a new phone. Windows 10 phone
  • 3 things I've noticed so far with my 830   1. Glance screen settings is broken. If you had it enabled before the update it's still on, but you can't play with it. 2. Data settings aren't editable. I can adjust the amount of data I want to use a month. 3. Find my phone feature is broken. Updating removed my phone from my online account. I'm curious if a reset would fix this.
  • That "Blue" screen (which looks purple in the video) seems to be the same colour as the accent you pick. Speaking of which...still no colour wheel on the accents, right?
  • Resuming bug to bluescreen :D still a preview though.. Final version will be smooth as feather:)
  • I really really hope they give black theme for the new "Metro 2.0" apps. All the white background hurts my eyes :/
  • I second that.
  • Report back to them, it's a tp focusing probably more on the internal part of win10. The small and unfinished ui are small parts in comparison.
  • .
  • What about music app
  • on 630 it's awfull some icons are deformed phone overheats, no alarm text box, the brightness it's set to max on screen unlock and it lags in the menu. it needs more work to become usable for every day use
  • obviously. its a technical preview
  • Obviously..did you forget what you just downloaded to your device??
  • Lumia 920 owsittmennn ::(
  • People who say go Android are the ones letting windows phone die
  • I have a question. Are there no transparent tiles in windows 10? Because in the video I see the usual WP8.0 kind of tiles with the accent color
  • It's optional.. You can return to old background as well :)
  • Not impressed. Guess I feel a little bit more at ease. Same stuff, different looks. The features that I wanted is just not there: Swipe multitasking without having to hold the back button, dual screens like windows RT and Gnote, dedicated music player with slider and on screen volume controls, basically many of windows RT features...
  • I feel same, before they showed W10 there were some videos on YouTube with demos of how could be the software in phones, most of the features were awesome!!! But I really don't see anything incredible yet, I know is an early preview, but I really want to see the BIG changes.
  • I checked the feature request website. Most voted for are stupid stuff, I think, like Persian language and other nonproductive stuff. I'd kill for wdRT on my phone!!!!
  • Mmmm so that's why...its a shame, they could added some great stuff, hope the will. But honestly, so far I'm not impressed.
  • Persian language was already in WP 8.1. You mean the Persian calendar? Yes we like that very much but I don't see how something as trivial as that could hinder the development of major features of an OS created by a company as giant as Microsoft.
  • Thanks for the quick review.  Working nice on my Lumia 830 on Bell Canada here too.   I will see about putting on on of my other supported devices the Lumia 635.  As one can expect there is likley extra debugging code in the release which seems to result in a bit of lag and reduced performance, which can be expected in these early builds.  All in all, it looks like a pretty good release, so far, and moving in the right direction, and I'm pleased with it.  Nice having similar navigation and features on the phone to what is on my Surface Pro  2 test machine running the Windows 10 Technical Preview.   Hope to soon upgrade SP3 too.
  • It's really nice being able to speak rather than have to type, for example the body of a long email message. Waiting for the new office apps too ...
  • enjoy your botnet
  • The dialer pad is horrible, increase the hit/target areas, its basic usability. Needs alot of refining and more consistency.
Also menu/ hamburger icon on the top left not usable.
  • It is a miracle to me why the dialer keyboard and the calculator keyboard has no visual buttons, bit just text. It is not consistent with the normal keyboard.
  • Get real you guys this update is bullshitt Daniel even knows it lol
  • If they made bigger tiles I suppose is because in the near future we will interact more with them on the start screen I'm right? If not, what's the propose?
  • I think so
  • So live folders are still in W10 for phones and tablets, but will they now be in W10 for PC?
  • he mentioned the type was small in settings and i found out why ... the system type size is turned all the way down in "ease of access" .... i bumped the text sixe setting up and poof!  much better
  • Thanks for this video
  • Can you test out tile headers to see how they render with the background image setup? Thank you!
  • can you do it on L730? and what about new music and video app? any updates there?
  • Looks good. Don't think its gonna change much for market share though.
  • Looks extremely unfinished. I know it's a preview (pretty much a beta) but I'm afraid that some things are going to stay exactly like that in the final build. Just feels to me that way.
  • This is not a "beta"! A beta is a test of final features and options, this is not a final preview of features, as Microsofts is adding more and more u untill Windows 10 is launched. Don't just call everything a beta and expect near perfection.
  • It would be nice to see a video of Spartan and what's new in it. I want to know if its possible to stream football like on the iPhone
  • This all seems like I just changed a launcher in my Lumia a.k.a Android ... Over half baked in design UI... Hopefully the full preview by June on a new flagship will be a cohesive experience... All the best MS, and fellow fans - keep the faith!
  • It does like an Android launcher lmao
  • What looks good is the new Alarm app! Love it!
  • The preview is suppose to give us a vision where windows phone is headed the future doesn't look to bright tbh
  • The blue screen is your accent color.
  • When swiping to the app list, the background should be dimmed the same way it dims when you pull down the notification center. This vertical line where it suddenly turns dark looks terrible. It's like sliding between two separate screens.
  • Favorite new feature has to be respond to text messages from the toast notification and notification shade.
  • That kind of improvements are what we want to see in W10, hope they add more of them.
  • My god, how terrible it is! This is not a Windows phone at all! The new applications look as if they were ported from android, the settings menu has an ugly and confusing mixed pages. And so on!
If I chose between WP 7.8 and WP 10, I swear I would choose the first one! Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Me too man I don't know what to do with myself now
  • What the hell is all the bitchin' for? This is basically an alpha release. If you can't handle running something like that then why load it on your phone.
  • Is a preview. Not even beta. MS is leveraging some old screens from the current WP version so that users can still work with the settings. Things will get more polished in the near future.
  • But this beta shows the direction they are heading... and now I have to confirm Steve Jobs Quote: "Microsoft has just no taste at all..."
  • This is such a let down... This looks like WP8.1 mixed with some horrible Android influences, I don't see any innovation. Lollipop and iOS 8 look much better than this, and I'm a hardcore WP fan. This is a sad day for me.
  • I am hating that white and dark theme combination for the system. Hope its not going to be the same when final build are released. Its just reminding me of the Android system. Not impressed at all. :(
  • Pretty sure they'll fix that, because everybody wants a unified theme, including me.
  • Only feature i liked till now is the start screen and organized setting page. But hate that dark and white theme combination throughout the system its looking really garbage
  • It's a freakin' preview release!
  • The black background for the overall system theme is one of the things that initially attracted me to WP.  I hope there is still an option to keep all backgrounds black.  I don't like how some things don't look so metro.  It looks like a mishmash hack at the moment.
  • In the video, all the new screens are white and all the old screens are black. I bet in the end all screens will be white. Why? Because they're white on a PC.
  • As a developer I have a good idea of what can easily be changed at this point, and what is not likely to. Software takes a lot of time to design, build and test and creating something that is totally in the wrong direction and needs to be scrapped and reworked is avoided at all cost ... and done very early on. Long before you ever release any kind of build. Those days are gone regarding win 10. Although this is a tech preview, there is little here that would change radically. Features that are completely unavailable can easily be added though. Inconsistencies will be resolved, as can colors, themes, controls, sizing and layouts (eg the keypads and keyboards). However key concepts such as menus, dialogues, navigation and flow of apps and pages will likely remain. Remember also that they have to allow all existing apps targeting APIs not specific to Windows 10 to function in a backwards-compat way and look good, as well as new apps that do directly target Win10, and they must look consistent side by side. That's quite a hard thing to get right. You can bet Microsoft is all over sites like this, reading these opinions which are quite evidently negative in the majority. If they can't impress people on here that are the most devoted fans of the OS, they will have their work cut out... They will still have a chance to right some wrongs, but the overall question is, are they heading in the right direction despite the flaws in the early build, and currently according to most here, they are not it seems.
  • They are NOT, repeat NOT on the right track. Did they fire the guys who created WP7, Win XP and Win 7?! Did they all go to the Office team and create wonderful stuff over there? What happened to Windows man? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!
  • Cool. Well, I'm in no hurry now.
  • No denim for my 1520 now no early 10 *sigh* to think I spent 45k on my phone -..-
  • Ugly as fuck, that is no the Windows Phone concept that brought me to this platform
  • Great video Daniel!
  • It's transforming into android did you not see the late response times when Daniel tapped around in the settings fuckkkkk
  • big microsoft bullshit, this should be called windows 8.1.2 not the big new windows 10
  • Actually it's 8.15.
  • Not sure if trolling or stupid.  This is a Tech Preview.  Not finished product.  After playing around with it for a while the new menu layout seems a little more intuitive than the old 3 dot thing.
  • Some apps have hamburger menus, others don't. The whole settings UI won't fit the current app UI. INCONSITENT OVER 9000. MS, you killed it for me. Thx.
  • Preview release!
  • Even the 8.1 update cooler shitt then this come on mannnn
  • Looks the same to me!
  • I'm stickin to 8.1 until I see some major changes for the good
  • How could you forget about the music app!
  • speed dial @ the top? why are most frequently most used functions at the top, can you still swipe from left to right to show history and speed dial? can someone tell me.....
  • I would think dialer is most frequently used.
  • I really like the new setting page. I noticed for some options they still use old style page with black background and big texts and for some they are using new style with white background. I am sure because it is in preview stage and they will make them all look same at the end but have to say the new setting page, icons, and white background for setting pages looking very nice and I hope they don't go back to old style. Windows Phone OS is really good but what made many people not to try or switch when it came out was mostly UI and not having much options to change it. Microsoft from begining said they believe phone is personal and each person should have his/her start screen, color, etc. but in reality they didn't offer much option for peopl to change colors, background and etc. But it seems finally with Windows 10 they start to offer what was missing all these years.
  • I needed a one minute to realize how ugly the different menu pages looked. It seems the programmers haven't noticed that by now. Otherwise they didn't do what they did. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Nope Nope Nope
  • Gabriel was right with his riddle because this doesn't look like a new release but just an upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1316
  • When will Daniel learn to keep the phone straight facing the camera?? Nobody holds their phone that way and it is harsh on the eyes.
  • Why does the dailer and calculator have no visual keys but just text? It's not consistent with the regular keyboard which has visual keys. MS is probably to blind to notice this and the billions of the inconsistent things. I will be really surprised if the UI is polished in just 4-5 months. So far w10 on phones is a disappointment and looks like interns are toying with w8.1.
  • I agree, W10 on phones looks horrible and even if they fix it on time, in six months iOS 9 will be out. Seriously, how can we depend MS anymore? WP 8.1 was launched a YEAR ago and this buggy alpha is all they cooked up in that period of time?
  • Exactly.
  • Is it compatible with #tileArt? My new favorite thing about windows phone and then they go and change the way background images are viewed on the start screen.
  • I hate white and black themes they will probably make it unified I love black!
  • The new mixed interface means third-party developers now can create ANY interface, because Microsoft is doing that itself. Waiting for Android ports with no changes! Fie! Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • maybe because i cant experience it myself - but i dont like the new settings app...looks odd...
  • The whole UI looks odd. It's like android embedden into this new "Metro", full of inconsistencies and lack of attention to design...
  • Anyone notice if the poor sensitivity in the search button has changed? Hoping it was a software issue for the 830 AT&T ?
  • I came to the platform over its wonderful design. How could the new design attract anybody? Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • I have no idea what kind of great plan MS have on live tile and tile UI. I liked tile and tile UI when MS announced wp for the first time. But even though five or six years have passed, all they have tried to improve tile UI is to give us option to change the size of tile and transparent tile and which mean they can't give any reason why we have to use tile and tile UI than icon and launcher UI like old windows and Mac, ios and android. To be honest, live tile and tile UI look different but don't look beautiful and don't do functional like ios and android and that's why WP and windows 8.1 have failed.  So I hoped that MS would admit their failure on live tile and tile UI and try to change to fix and improve them on windows 10 mobile but MS might think that people love tile and tile UI so they keep them without fixing and changing at all. MS, where is Metro 2.0 ?
  • Hmmm live tiles are brilliant. Why would you want to change them. Ios and android widgets and things are rubbish compared to live tiles
  • But what about the new keyboard?
  • Thank you for the prompt video Daniel and team! Unfortunately I gotta work on some laptops first which just got dumped on me before I can watch the hands-on video. So its going to be couple of hours....Damn it!
  • Hey Daniel. Good video. I was wondering if the background in Cortana can be changed to dark? . That light background would be very hard on the battery. . Also good you show us more on the messaging. Can cortana send an email yet?
  • Alright, hopefully Microsoft is checking this page and paying attention. The dialer was not broken, nor did it need to be redesigned. Tweaked, maybe, but not redesigned. If nothing else the dialer has always been EASY TO USE. You cannot get away from functionality simply for the hell of it. Not only functionality, but EASY functionality
Seriously, Microsoft put the dialer back to what it was.
Keep the settings silder buttons the same. Again, no need to change something that is easy, and NOT BROKEN. I get that they want to evolve the design. But there are ways to do that in a subtle way without the OS  becoming stagnant... like ios.
I'm all for change as long as it's right and purposeful. No need to do it just to do it.
  • I'm not liking this at all. It looks like a cross between windows phone an Android (and not in a good way). Menus all over the place, some screens with the hamburguer button other withouth it. Where is the UI consistency of Windows Phone?. Seriouslly, i had really high hopes for this but so far i'm not happy at all.
  • I agree. If this remains the UI in the final version I see no reason not to switch, all WP had over the other OSs was its beauty.
  • New Office apps!??? Is Mail updated?
  • Thrilled.
  • Can you at least make the tiles fully transparent? Honestly can't stand opague colored tiles covering up the background.
  • Windows 10 on Phone is great... and will be better till final release and also get better each day after release like always from 1982 windows is stable fast secure and reliable. Thank you Daniel. android fanboys please go away and stick with your Hangroid OS thanks you!
  • W10 wants to be Android if you look closely at the new UI (like settings or dialer).... Hate it.
  • I'm sorry for you...i said that before stick with your hangroid
  • The whole thing looks confused.... if this is where we are headed, I don't see anyone jumping from Android or iOS for this...  But.... let's give them some time and see what shakes out.   In the end, W10 phone and Win 10 for PC might be the most fluid and beautiful OS ever.
  • This
  • I don't like the white background in setting and Cortana, white = more light, mean's more battery use, this is ugly anyway, still prefer the transparent tile beside of transparent color tiles !! Only the notifications center seems a lot better... Im not in a hurry so there is a lots of builds to come before i will install it... Maybe i will wait for the official release, 8.1 work pretty fine for me so i don't really care !!!
  • Not liking what I'm see dso far with Windows 10 on phone. Especially with UI. It's still early though so hopefully things change.
  • "Preview currently works with the following phones – as long as they have at least 8 GB of storage and Windows Phone 8.1 was already installed on the phone at the time of purchase" Not yet available for my Lumia 1020 or my HTC 8x. I'd rather not install it on my Lumia tbh but I don't mind messing with the 8X!! Hopefully it'll be available further down the road.
  • Oh, I see a lot of complaining going on. Lets all remember that is a very early technical build. I am sure that much further along things will improve. Lets stop slagging it off and provide actual valuable feedback eh??
  • Some people are just bitches this is a technical build next week it can be completely different for what we all know, its so easy to give some feedback. The only complain I have is that I can't have it. :(
  • I hope they understand that this is technical preview. Preview preview....... Yes preview
  • Can anyone tell us if we have the ability to make our tiles completely transparent / clear like we can now with WP8.1? Everything I have seen so far shows colored tiles which are only somewhat transluscent. This is distressing to me. Not much point in having a backgraound if every single app tile is going to obscure it.
  • HOPEFULLY you can.   You can, according to these screenshots.   http://www.windowscentral.com/even-more-windows-10-phone-screenshots-get...
  • Not digging these vista style transparency effects...windows phone introduced flat design and minimalism that all other OSs have been emulating and copying and now we are being served this rubbish! Hamburger menus you've got to be kidding me! ALERT: Too many chefs in the kitchen! Design by commitee NEVER works! Very disappointing overall...the end!
  • Daniel, I don't know if it's the you tube video but it seems to not have smooth transitions. Can you confirm that it does and that it's not my you tube video settings?   Thanks
  • I'm pleased with a lot -- the foundation is there though the UI will continue to be polished. Improvements on the desktop will push the phone forward, and vice versa, so this can only be good news. The only thing that worries me is the new white screens -- I'm wondering how those will hold up on my AMOLED 925 and if the dark theme will change those. (I'd go full dark on my PC and phone). The tile flipping animation is a nice touch, it's unlike Windows 8 which is nice. Though I do wonder why reviewers always have such horrible color combinations on their review phones. Rainbow background and deep indigo tiles? Give me some nice dark grey tiles over a soothing landscape anyday.
  • Can you choose a different accent color than the 16 pre-programmed ones? I will definitely be requesting a color picker once they bring 1520's in the loop. It's boring only having a few select colors to choose from.
  • Does anybody really believe Microsoft will replace or remove all those ridiculous elements, that were copied from android directly? Guys, they had a lot of time to consider how to improve our favorite platform! And finally showed us off this monster! I just don't trust them after this! Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • I kinda liked the old dialer. This new one is ugly as hell.
  • This video made me sad. Aethetically speaking WP is dead in this build. Although this is an early tech preview still IMHO, I'm not liking where Microsoft is heading in terms of design.
  • Im kinda finding this whole windows 10 thing to be, well... underwhelming. These last several years I use to be so gungho to update/upgrade but to be honest.... quite happy with 8 right now. Im not liking the whole onedrive new way to sync thing on in the tech preview. Not really liking phone anymore either. They really seem to be moving away / we seem to be growing apart. I'm bummed about it. Dont get me wrong. Not going to run to apple or anything but just feeling to agnostic anymore.
  • So the new recipe: using WP 8.1 all the way until your phone is broken. Than move to Blackberry or iPhone. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • This is my plan, too! :)  I think I'll get the next iPhone ... selling my Surface Pro 3 and buy a Macbook Air or something like that. Goodbye, MS.
  • You have surface pro 3 in your dream. Fan boy!
  • Good choice, please dont let the door slam on your azz on the way out...
  • Bye
  • Huge WP fan here. I will admit that I'm a touch disappointed too as others have said. Firstly though the following is obvious: This a TP and menus and UI wil be consistent by release. As MS have achieved with every realesd since WP7, everything will be fluid and smoothe by release My disappointments so far include (and I'm hoping things will/may improve/change over time): Some of the new menu/ui choices make this feel like Android. I hope they are just testing the waters and will rely on feedback Really hope there is an option to keep transparent tiles/background as wp8.1. its very unique and cool, though I doubt they will Hoping some bigger changes and new ground breaking features will be added, not just new UI, extra actions and new menus. We may need to wait for new hardware for these new features and also wait for CP as MS usually keep new features tight under wrap till CP. I don't think its as bad as some people make it to be. This is a TP and its the first time we've ever been able to test one, so I'm pretty confident things will improve big time as we get updates, but I do hope some of my concerns are fixed or come later.
  • Is there no external survey team that they ask about the design? I mean... everyone HATES the new design language. Can someone please start a petition to bring back good old metro? If I wanted a Android design I would have bought an Android phone....
  • Microsoft doesn't know who it wants to be, always going back and forth. Apple stays consistent with iOS and OSX. The same can't be said of Windows. Every generation you have to relearn everything. I think this is one of the main reasons MS is failing. Even in laptops Apple is gaining ground.
  • Metro was beautiful. I think even a lot of Apple zealots were surprised by it at the time, but unfortunately I think its a style that is not to everyone's taste. Some see love the tiles and the principles behind it all, whilst others see it as lifeless and drab. Its a real shame because now with this it looks like they've lost all direction they had. Really dissapointed.
  • Ohhh its so hard... No it isn't.
  • Guess you forgot to show the new messaging app and the keyboard. But still thanks for the video. It's great
  • Does it only let have the background BEHIND or can i get the background ON live tiles like 8.1?
  • - New dialer simply looks horrible. Worst I've seen in years. - Settings screen has icons but now tiny text, 3 different styles, extra steps to dive into and jarring white theme contrast. - Wallpapers, preferred the intile option. - Cortana, again jarring white theme. - Action Centre slight improvements but hardly looks elegant. - Hamburger menus and top centric buttons. Congrats you've just poured the worst iOS and Android feature Overall this reminds me sadly of 6.5 and a mishmash of different styles which none of work. It brings very little new to the table and sadly for me is a big step backwards. Know its only a preview, but looks like a complete waste of time so far and they've got a lot of work to do if they want to retain this WP customer.
  • Yes, first release should entice people what's coming up. And at this time, we should be squashing bugs of new features. I have this feeling WP will be like Xbox One, adding features as time goes by. Not good for WP, it needs to wow people more.
  • It's not a first release... Whatever gave you that idea? It's a technical build.
  • I'm just home from work and now finishing up the installation process for Windows 10 Preview. From what I've seen thus far - the Preview build looks pretty nice. Lumia 635
  • I dont like the settings stuff .. Seems like windows 10 but it really needs to be tied down .. A lot of the interfaces are totally different from each other there's no uniform layout we've all come to know from windows phone .. It seems like they mashed together three or four operating systems and tried to make a new one with the mash up .. Looks kinda weird to me
  • No big deal. nothing wow. Little changes
  • Pay attention. We used to do 2 steps in the settings. Now it takes... 3 steps! Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • I prefer the new sub menu interface rather than mixing or keeping the old one.
  • Still Technical Preview feels so flat. I know this is the inital release and features will be added on but first release should have that wow factor.
  • Daniel, why would you assume that Win10 going to your wallpaper app when you try to pick a background image (wallpaper) is a weird bug? I would assume it is a feature that would allow us to pick a default app for treating file types or certain activities. And maybe some apps like the one you use already have this hooked in, like the lens and photo editing apps do.
  • I know it's just a technical preview but jeez they have a lot of work to do to get it up to current Windows standards. The new design changes are just hideous. I would've never switched from Android to WP if it looked like this. Again it's an unfinished preview but damn...
  • People complain that the UI has drastically changed, however from watching the video and bearing in mind that it's a Technical Preview, I say Microsoft is on the right path. I say the above on the following points. First, the Messaging feature is incredible, allowing us to reply with natural voice or text without having to open the app, I mean I can but imagine the use this will have, facebook, email, SMS, whatsapp etc. The notification pane is good too, can't complain, I don't see that as a UI change but rather as an improvement and the ability to dismiss individual notifications. I personally love the parallax transparent tiles and wish they would consider bringing them back at launch of the final product. Last, The universal app approach is going to do wonders, maps, office and music are tell tell signs of the potential this brings. Office is a beast, outlook with the word engine is by far my greatest highlight
  • I am not liking it so far... I know it's an early release, but some elements are here to stay, and are less attractive than WP8.1. I hope that later we will have consistency between black and white screens, and the tile appearance improves. The background looks better in WP8.1. Finally, the camera app in the 830 is still slowwwwww.
  • What has happened to light or dark theme choice?
  • I LOVE WP!!  But Win10 doesn't seem that different than Win8.1......  I'm not sure what I was expecting but I didn't see that much difference.
  • Is there folders?
  • IMHO not so shocking difference with WP. Instead to spent so many details on appearance and aesthetic details I'd like to see a benchmark comparison as well as technical differences as for example battery life, audio, GSM and so on...
  • Am I the only one who think this is so damn ugly? Still love the layout of wp8.1...
  • No I definitely do
  • Thanks Daniel that was great. Unfortunately I have the 625 and 1520 so I'll have to wait a bit. One on the low... too low... And one on the high....
  • To all the whiners saying I don't like it I'm going to android or app$e or blackberry or whatever.... Who gives a crap. Leave already.
  • Can we all stop complaining about the obvious work to be done on the TECHNICAL PREVIEW and discuss what we would like to see added (or removed) in the final build. The UI is bound to change, but how do you'll like the UX?
  • I can see they are including some WinRT bits into WP! Pretty interesting IMHO! The UX just needs some uniformity and polish but they are working hard!
  • Thanks Daniel. Looking forward to more information especially as it relates to installing and running apps and games. Not to mention making and receiving phone calls and texts.
  • now im thinking of not upgrading cause they clearly fucked up the start screen image backgrounds, lets start complaining on uservoice now to get it back... just because some kids coming from other OS started complaining asking for wp to have the same stupid backgrounds implementation... jeez ms
  • Hopefully it gets better, because as of now, the whole new UI is just....
    Yuck.
  • Is anyone else's Lumia 830 have a drop in frame rate when scrolling the start screen? Mine is insane
  • mine toOOo having same... have you find any solution yet?
  • Got it just now on my 830. It's just awesome. Windows phone is now complete!
  • is your 830 scrolling is smooth? after TP ?
mine not smooth at all.. its lagg
  • scrolling is not smooth yeah..there's lot of lag..and it was crashing. .so i reverted back. .the features are nice..but I'll wait for a stable version.
  • +925 please!!!
  • I miss the old configuration center. The black one with big fonts and side scrolling. The new one seems to much like Android and the blue icons are ugly and the new font is too small. =S
  • I don't think its like Android... Its like Windows 10, but the text size is too small.
  • I wasn't even bummed about the 1020 build not being available, and I honestly don't care if one even comes after this. I like wp more than most people do but I am completely uninterested in this. It's kind of ugly ( the new settings design/app design ) and is made even more apparent when you opened the notifications settings after the display settings. And the home screen. The new design doesn't seem to fit well on phones like 8/8.1 did. I don't see why it needs to be identical, going the route apple took is much better. iOS and OSX look and feel completely different and yet work very well together. Cramming a design from desktops onto a smartphone is just silly and kind of ugly. Oh well. Without the unique, attractive design I get absolutely nothing with wp ( aside from really great cameras with a really good app ) that I don't get on android or iOS. Nothing. The camera or camera app isn't enough. It sucks to say it, but I find just about everything that is new to be so much more bland and less appealing than wp 8/8.1. Posted via Windows Phone Central App
  • I've a question... did the default music player changed? I mean is it different from how it is on WP 8.1? Is there a new presentation for it? thanks for replaying
  • There is. Look at the new presentation video from Joe Belfoere, near the end. It is not in this build, though..
  • Noticed that daniel had a few hit or miss when pressing something on 830 which also happened to my 830 too.
  • Wow.... Is the signature bluescreen from Microsoft!! hahahaha....
  • Can snd apps via Bluetooth ?
  • Hey Daniel! Can you please do a video for Music and Video Apps. Xbox Music was not a nice experience in 8.1. It would be good to know how that is in windows 10.
  • Definitely right about the text size... Too small!... It really ruins the ability to do things at a glance... Can it be adjusted in the settings?
  • i dont like talking dirty, but whenever i see the Hamburger button top left of the screen of my Lumia, i just wanna say F....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS THE SPIRIT OF METRO!!!!!
  • Agreed, I moved to WP because you didn't have to move your thumb across the screen to damn buttons everywhere, now it's the same as iPhone, and I left iPhone because of it.
  • I don't exactly get the concept of the wallpaper in Windows 10 for phones..so is it like the tiles have the accent colour but they are translucent? Correct me if I'm wrong
  • Yeah exactly as you stated, translucent tiles with an accent color.
  • Wonder whether MS is providing any attention to aesthetics while increasing the utility.
  • Anyone pls post youtube link for this video, youtube was blocked in my office, also I can't see "Source" anywhere in this article. Thanks in advance:)
  •    You can update the OS through the store...? That is AWESOME! No more waiting for carriers dragging their feet or deciding which phones get which updates.
  • I need to know how is music app on win 10., can some one make a video
  • Don't seems faster... please tell me that the performance will be better than this... lag on animations is horrible...
  • ... Beta, alpha..
  • Can always hope that the new phone layout will bring up names above as you type numbers
  • Interesting he says a lot, that usually means 'not so good'. I'm feeling 'eh' on it so far.
  • There is finally a slider for brightness
  • A music app tour?
  • What about music app in windows 10
  • Does the store apps Unified with the desktop store? If yes.. How about facebook? Is it the official facebook app or the Microsoft facebook app?
  • I see the evolution of Windows beyond the icon. Windows is creative and risky.  My loyalty is strengthened.  Apple and Google have switched roles with Microsoft. I have also decided to be okay with being a niche mobile OS loyalist.  And I get it. Being a fanboy is okay.
  • I want it on my 720 :(
  • what about videos and music apps?? are they different?
  • Is it safe to download the insider preview?
  • is there still color profile settings available like it used to be on wp 8.1?
  • Feedback:
    1) Bring back the old typography centric headers and no title(header) bars.
    2) Bring pivot pages for each category of settings.
    3) Emoticon button should be brought back. Some way to decrease the height of the keyboard manually. Dictation symbol either in suggestion bar or navigation bar. Addition of Ctrl key with Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts. Shift(⬆ )+direction keys(navigon) for text selection. Option to copy multiple instances of texts simultaneously. An icon for cut pasting selected text like copy pasting icon.
    4) A quick action toggle for turning flash on and of.
    5) Download status in action+notification center.
    6) Downloads page in IE/Spartan.
Way to change size of pinned live web tiles as well as transparency/translucency options for them.
    7) Top and vertical menu bars in files/photos app should be placed at bottom on top of ellipses bar.
    8) Interactive live tiles i.e. ability to search on Cortana, updating status updates and tweets from live tiles of facebook/twitter, composing new messages on native message app as well as other services like skype/whatsapp/viber, ability to call/text from the vertically scrollable contacts in double down people's tile etc.
    9) Always bright(grey?) option for on screen navigation bar.
    10) Full colour palette for accent colours including white/grey/silver as well as black. Also include user controlled opacity meter for live tiles.
    11) Small, medium, large, extra large font size options for normal text(app list) as well as app titles(headers) and pivotal typography.
    12) Ability to select panoramic images for system apps as well as 3rd party with user controlled blur meter.
  • What about the other phones like Lumia 1320 and 1520 damn it
  • In settings, the white screen is very much wasted with the small icons...
Also, there is arrow on the right side of every individual notification in notification center, what is it???
    Rest till now is awesome....
  • I am trying to download update but it is stuck at 0%
  • Are they changing the material design again?! I still prefer the old one
  • My work blocks Youtube unless you use the SSL version. Can anybody post the link to the actual Youtube video instead of the embedded one in the article?
  • I was looking forward to see apps tray/drawer get more like Android instead of just "list view"only! IMHO, "grid view" makes sense since screens are becoming bigger.
  • I'm still waiting for the Denim update on my Lumia 920 (don't know whether it is eligible for the update). So lame to keep waiting. The BlackBerry Classic is lurking in my mind right now.
