Windows 10 build 14372 released for PC and Mobile Insiders

Microsoft has released its second build for Windows Insiders this week for PC and phone, bringing fast ring users up to build 14372, one up from yesterday's release. Considering this build is only one newer, and we're almost done with development of the Anniversary Update, this build includes no new features, but lots of bug fixes and other improvements.

Microsoft published the information on their Insider blog.

Here's the list of known issues for PC:

  • Clicking on networks or VPN connections in the network flyout on the taskbar doesn't launch the network settings page like it should.
  • There are a few known issues with the Evernote Web Clipper extension for Microsoft Edge. The Evernote Web Clipper might not load on certain websites and there is no thumbnail image when clipping bookmarks. There are also various visual issues.
  • When you enable Developer Mode in this build, you will receive an error message because the necessary package needs from Windows Update isn't being published appropriately. This will prevent you from using Device Portal. We're working to get this fixed as soon as possible. You can still F5 deploy apps from Visual Studio to your PC.

And for Mobile:

  • We have changed the backup format for Windows 10 Mobile devices to reduce the size of the backup stored in OneDrive. As a result, if you do a backup on a device running the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds and move back to the released version of Windows 10 Mobile (Build 10586) and restore from your backup – your Start screen layout won't restore and remain the default Start layout. Your previous backup also gets overwritten. If you need to go back to Build 10586 temporarily, once you are on Build 10586 you should disable backup so it doesn't overwrite the good backup from Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds.
  • We've heard you and we are investigating decreases in battery life on older devices such as the Lumia 830, 930, and 1520 (devices with SoC 8974 chipsets).
  • We're investigating Wi-Fi disconnect issues – if you are experiencing an issue with your Wi-Fi disconnecting, please see this forum post and make sure to upvote Wi-Fi disconnecting issues in the Feedback Hub.

Microsoft is almost done with development of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update now, so it's no surprise to see these new builds include no new features. It's great to see Microsoft working on stability and bug fixes, however, as it means we'll get a much smoother and better performing operating system all round come public rollout in July.

  • Dona is a superwoman
  • Na... Insiders are super helpful
  • We must commend her too. She's hardworking
  • Agreed
  • Yes, she is doing an amazing job!
  • Giving orders...
  • Previously Gabe had to work with both engineering and insider team. This split his workload and the builds arrived at a much lower rate. This is why he left the insider in order for them to make this process more efficient and quicker.
  • Yeah, he is more ofban engeneering guy. I'm actuallu glad with new changes on management, he can focus more on the actual development. The team needs more in team that can help developing things faster that can contrubute to better quality results.
  • Wherever Joe Belfiore is....
  • He's in the middle of the ocean for sure...kicked back
  • With his iPhone ;-)
  • Are you a Microsoft employee? How do you know this?
  • He stated as much some time ago; he was given new roles but remained head of the inside division for some time. Then, when he felt he couldn't devote as much time as needed to both things, he passed the lead to Dona and said he would focus on his other responsibilities.
  • Just curious as to your thought process.
  • Updates are always welcomed.
  • Update 2 for mobile appears to be much closer in quality to WP8.1 than the original W10M that shipped with devices
  • It's so buttery smooth
  • Guess they finally realized we all love getting updates. Going to miss these frequent updates once the anniversary edition is released.
  • Why? They'll get started on RS2.
  • And then RS3, RS4.....And then W11!
  • An eternal insider Quest, im up for it, but i think i better buy another device now, after Rs1 i wil have all the features that i need on my daily driver :D
  • Yea I doubt builds will come as frequent at first...so it will be a few months before we get builds back to back like this
  • Updates are always welcomed...
  • That hotness
  • This^
I never thought I'd ever get almost tired of installing new builds lol!
  • Just lists known problems
  • Cause there are no known new features, read please!
  • I think he was referring to the fact that there isn't a list of fixed bugs.
  • He is asking for known issues, not features
  • I did read. I had to go to find the source of the original article to find out that Microsoft really didn't specify more than just bugfixes. The source is not in the article.
  • The poor battery performance on L950 isn't listed which is a huge problem.
  • Last two builds have increased my 950XLbattery life significantly. Now I have usually 30-40% left when I get home at night. Used to be on battery saver and ~10% left.
  • That's great info! Now I'm looking even more forward to Anniversary Update :D
  • I agree, I get 2 days of battery on my L950. I only need to charge on alternate nights and this is with regular use every day - few phone calls, messages & browsing.
  • Okay, so the battery will not last as long for me due to my usage :]
  • I need that USB connection fixed... I'll try reset
  • And still no mention of Windows Ink features like they mentioned on Build 2016. Are the Apps delayed? When can I use the Ruler in Powerpoint or OneNote? The Sketchpad is kind of useless... Maps App still doesn't worm with Windows Ink.
  • 14371 is the most stable yet. My 950 runs cooler, longer, with no serious hang problem. I still see audio/media issues. For example, run my podcast, close, run Groove and it might take several attempts to play. Appears to be running. I'll report again and I suspect it to be fixed soon. Very happy with W10 Mobile. Fast cry from the state of just a few weeks ago. Will install latest when I hit the office. Oh a side note, latest update seems to okay nice with my Band 2. Music connection running much better.
  • I agree with the exception of Edge. It is seriously broken for me. Extentions works great but the constant page reloads and 70% CPU loads pushed me back to Chrome.
  • Agreed. Edge is seriously flawed as well as missing important features, sync with my account, etc. Continually closes on me. I want desperately to like it.
  • Also on mobile I have huge text on some sites for quite a few builds now. The Disqus comments are the most annoying, with text getting bigger and bigger with every reply to a comment
  • Another build, I hope this fixes my camera issue. Can't use my default camera due to some annoying permission issue.
  • Me too. Does it fix it for you or do I have to download another app until it's fixed?
  • I found the issue for me was that the camera permission was set to off in the "other connected devices" in the privacy section. Once I enabled it, all is working again. Annoying that the message I got always pointed to the Camera and Microphone privacy settings. On another note, the gadgets app has received an update in this build and now is fully functional again, yesssssss.
  • Why would "upvoting" a wifi bug need to be encouraged?  They obviously know about it...
  • Because when you upvote a bug, it logs information about your phone. The Wifi bug is not affecting everyone, so it helps them understand what's common for those being affected.
  • I didn't know that!  I bet a lot of insiders don't.... thanks for the reply.
  • It also lets them know how widespread the problem is.
  • Do you guys know how to "cancel" a pending update / fast ring?  I'm showing that the next restart will install a preview version which I do not want, because I have a Lumia Icon and right now my battery life is fine (I don't want to get another version that has bad battery life).  Yes I tried getting off fast ring, but the update still shows as pending on the next restart.
  • I believe the only way to cancel an update is Hard Resetting your phone :/
  • You can't, you have to hard reset.
  • You can change the install from auto to manual pretty easily, then just don't update until they release a version that works for you. I've been holding off until most of the bugs are removed.
  • Don't hard reset allow it the battery life is ok with this build if you do hard reset it might brick your phone because the update had been installed in your phone automatically It's only waiting proper installation
  • I don't think this is true at all. A hard reset will not brick the device. Plus there is always WDRT.
  • Weren't these the 'known issues" in yesterdays build?  Maybe they're listed because they are fixed with this one?  I know... wishful thinking...
  • It must be a wrong blog!
  • These bugs are listed in the official blog post as well. They probably didn't get fixed yet.
  • Dual sim issue still not bring addressed?
  • It was fixed in the last build, but not explicitly mentioned. Using 2 SIMs on 950XL, data is fine
  • That's weird that MS didn't mention that explicitly because they kept listing the same dual sim in issue for quite a few builds.
  • Fixed. Works fine now
  • It is still not working for me. If I try to send an mms on the second sim number, but using the first sim data, it will not send.
  • Waiting for the release preview.
  • This should be your first one if I'm right so.. Congrats Zac on your first article! Nice one! :D Edit: My bad, you wrote more of them which I read but didn't notice your name XD
  • No, his first article was the Xbox One S announcement.
  • Yeah, I got that when I looked his profile :)
  • Well, I really hope they improve and unify the start screen customization across devices, and enable pen support for the mobile in TH2.
  • TH2 is the current release windows 10, this is RS1, the one after this will be RS2.
  • After installing 14371, my 830 got Lumia camera back and it works. The store offered an update to it, but I did not take it as I m afraid it will disable it for windows camera advantage
  • What is the advantage of using Lumia camera over the new one? They seem the same to me
  • You can always sideload it. That's what I did for my 1520.
  • How to?
  • Anyone ever got AVRCP 1.4+ working? Bluetooth profile AVRCP 1.5 was supposedly introduced back in build 14283 though I still can't browse my music library via my car's infotainment system even with build 14371.
  • I have the same problem, is it a Bluetooth issue or a groove music app issue?
  • Wish I knew - still no luck on today's build.
  • Nice, another one
  • Hey guys , just got a 950xl. Was there ever an issue with the screen locking during a phone call(as if was held up to your ear). It is doing it every time, as soon as I call or pick up. I may have the sensor covered with my screen protector, but it doesn't seem to cover it. Lemme know! Thanks!
  • I had that same issue with my tempered glass protector. You need to get one that has a larger cutout
  • Great! Thank you! Glad that is the issue.
  • Just installed and guess which app is back in action? I went to the store app and forced an update check and it updated Store, another app and then .....   ....   Gadgets.  It is no longer hidden! But they missed a feature to notify when the battery is low. :-(  You win some and lose some...
  • So, is the Gadgets app working in RS now?
  • I got these updates on 71
  • Yes, Gadgets app is working now.
  • Any of you all have an error when trying to update to this build from 14371? I keep getting an error on my trusty 1520
  • the same on my lumia 535 .. i tried many times and still the same error
  • Ain't the 535 only got 512mb of ram that would mean it won't run RS1 as the required ram for RS1 is now 1gig.
  • Shhhh,  don't let them know, as if we can continue getting these then we're in good fortune.
  • I got a lot of WC notification, with field to reply, what to reply, WC should fix this bug. add reply for something??? for what? WC on W10
  • Not on mine, I woke this dawn and realised it had successfully installed
  • Anyone else having issues with notifications not making a sound and sometimes not even coming in? I'm constantly missing texts now and have to constantly restart.
  • Same. Sucks
  • I'm glad you posted that because on 14371 last night, I missed 3 txt msgs that came in. I was expecting a reply to something, and was waiting for it. Had phone on desk, charging. After an hour of the info not coming in, I picked up phone to txt the person and ask what the holdup was. Oops... 3 messages had come in including the last one from them saying "Are you there?"
  • Yea and a soft reset helped me
  • What is release date of Anniversary update, Is it july 29?
  • Yeah, probably around that. Win 10 (TH1) came that day last year, and the newer insider builds show version 1607.
  • During the update and after the update Lumia Icon was running very warm to almost being hot. I rebooted it and hoping it will cool down on its own after this hot back to back updates. :-)

  • Mine was pretty warm too during and for about an hour after the update, not critically though.. Settles down eventually. Did a soft reset after mine cooled down and so far everything seems peachy.
  • I had an issue with this build not allowing the Windows Store to open, so I had to go back to the previous build. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • did you run store trouble shooter. i find that helps usualy.
  • 372 i just missed 371. well i saved some time.
  • Finally everything works good on both of my phones. It was about time!
  • How about fixing the non responsive volume Controls on sites like Youtube.
  • I have no such problems
  • The issue with volume is here =( after update
  • Another update my Blu phone won't see!  <sigh>   Sure wish Dona & MSFTJen would look at our (Blu Owners) collective tweets!
  • Which Blu phone are you using? They just announced that the US Win HD models got Windows 10 Mobile.
  • Blu Win HD LTE...and yeah, I'm on the Insider program...there's a thread on why we're only seeing production ring updates despite being in any of the Insider build rings.  The only way I get them is through WDRT and then triggering a completely new upgrade via Upgrade Advisor.
  • After update I had a notification SIM card settings had changed and had to reboot again. Cant remember what causes that?
  • 950xl dual on t-mobile
  • Boring. More features please like you promised a few weeks ago lol
  • I'm sure that MS has nightly builds with experimental features. Though doing daily OS installs would probably drive insiders crazy with data drain and bugs.
  • Sign me up! Data drain? That's what Wi-Fi is for.
  • What is Data Drain?
  • Ppl using their mobile data plan to download updates. I think in one of the really early W10 builds there was a bug with turning off data use for general stuff.
If nightly builds were released publicly, I imagine complains would sky rocket :P
Anyways, I should clarify that MS is likely continuously working on private builds with new features.
  • Oh come one, I haven't finished bashing the last build yet.  ;)
  • It would be cool if the final RS build number would be 14386. For obvious reasons to those of you familiar with PCs in the 90's.
  • Why not x486 featuring PC unlock with Phone, notification dismiss and other nice features?
  • When will they fix mobile data bug?? Should i have to wait the next november update?
  • Can somebody provide a reason to remove right arrow for apps with recent items in menu? Now I should guess which has items and which don't... It is really disappointing when it is almost release version but major flaws are still there, and no reaction on feedback/bug reports :(
  • So many builds, yet bugs bugs bugs. Oh well, the next build probably fix more bugs.
  • isn't that the idea behind Insider "PREVIEW"?
  • So this is pretty much what the Anniversary Update is going to be.  Well ok...
  • I'm still hoping they will release revamped Bluetooth connectivity.
  • I wonder if this resolves the shutdown issues on the Lumia 950/XL. After shutting down, the screen will say "Goodbye", then possibly turn off. After 15 minutes, I'm still not able to turn the phones on. They are still warm to the touch. A soft reset does not work. The only option is to pull the battery. I've been only able to replicate this on the 950 and 950 XL. Not the 640 I have on hand.
  • I haven't experienced that issue, however I have experienced very long shutdown times. More than five minutes.
  • My 640 did that on 71, bit only with the first Power off after the update. Been okay since.
  • Long pressing power+volume down does the same thing as removing your battery and putting it back in.
  • I had the same problem he is describing and that doesn't work. Only pulling the battery fixes it.
  • I had that problem when I was using windows hello. Turning it off fixed it for me.
  • I have the same problem on my 950XL...only way is to take out the battery and put it back, restart. It happens so frequently that I have to go back to release preview build. My other phones - 1520, 930 and 640xl work well with all these previews.
  • My phone stuck at 0% download for more than an hour now /:
  • But if we look at the trending problems on feedback hub we'll find bugs that have been upvoted hundreds of times and still not addressed on these releases. I had expected MS to at least address all the frequently upvoted and consistently lingering issues before the anniversary update.
  • I suspect the most troublesome bugs take the longest to correct. I fully believe they are working on them.
  • Man just like 14371 my PC doesn't find an update. I'm on 14367...
  • I faced same problem...
At first it's downloading an update, but now it shows "You have an latest version".
  • Downloading on 1520 with SoC 8974. Hopefully this will fix battery drain issue.
  • 14371 is very good . My problem with sms where i cant send recieved msgs is solve. And the battery is also improved. I hope that wont change in this build
  • Battery was draining in my Lumia 830 in 14371; now it is draining more quickly in 14372 :(
  • If .371 is on my phone and awaiting install, is there a way to delete it and move to .372?
  • Nope, install it and then check again for updates.
  • Has there been any update on when the anniversary update will release officially besides just july?
  • Battery draining.. started at 42% and in one hour sent about 5 text messages and 10 minute phone call and now it shows battery level at 29%.  13% in 1 hr!

  • If I reset my phone back to W8.1 then update it again: 1. What data from my phone will be lost?
    2. Will I be able to get the latest updates for windows 10 as I am on fast ring so 14372? I have a L635
  • 1. What ever the apps you installed.
    2. Yes if your model supposed to receive windows10.
  • What about the apps on my SD card? Do I reinstall them or do they automatically reinstall?
  • And Thanks for your reply :)
  • Will Microsoft suprise us with a new polished feature that we didn't see in the insider builds with the anniversary update for mobile? I would love to see some sort of Windows Ink for mobile too :)
  • Lol they will confirm one stable insider build for public rollout. Dont get excited.
  • Haha
  • Hopefully this fixes the random explorer.exe crashes that I've noticed in 14371. Posted via my Nexus 5X
  • So far so good for the moment. Haven't had a single explorer.exe crash since installing 14372. Either it was an easy bug to fix or (more likely) the fix was already queued into MS's internal rings and made it into 14372.
  • I havent had a single explorer.exe crash BEFORE installing 14372. Now I have them all the time... :-(
  • I really hate WC on W10 when I get new notification to reply to unknown .....
  • My Lumia 540 saw huge battery drain . I charged my phone to 100%. And in next 7 hours it showed 10% . Although my phone was in battery saving more from beginning . And I did only 1 call and received 5 messages. This was a huge drop in battery life.
  • Seems pretty normal to me. My friend's S7 Edge does have worst battery life than yours lol.
  • Suggest to stay at build 361. To prevent update, turn on battery saver at 100% and turn off WiFi when charging.
  • I don't know how but after updating to 14371.. Whenever someone calls me, my L830 ring for couple of seconds and than it behaves like it's in silent mode no vibrating no sound!!
  • " it means we'll get a much smoother and better performing operating system all round come public rollout in July." God I hope that rings true.
  • what about 'only 3G' option ?
  • Did they fix mobile data bug?
  • Yes i also would like to know!
Can't enable/disable mobile data or my phone freezes, that sucks!
  • I'm still disappointed and pissed off. This piece of crap it's still slow comparing it to IOS, the transitions between apps ain't smooth. Nothing is smooth and lag or hiccup free and always random. Auto closing (crashing) apps when resuming them is totally random and always happens when I need it the most All this in a stupid 8 core phone and latest official build. I'm sick of this stupid game of catch up that will never end. Love the platform and have been supporting it since day one. But there's a limit!! There's always a "no wait, next build is going to fix that. " Next build will catapult the platform, next build this, next build that. And next build does ****!!!!!! That's enough... This will be the last phone I buy and last try for Microsoft and start working for real!
  • The life is all about choices!
