Ahead of next week's release, Dontnod Entertainment just revealed a launch trailer for the upcoming dark role-playing game (RPG) Vampyr. The video explores protagonist Dr. Jonathan Reid's growth in power through murder or savage combat. By sacrificing the very citizens Reid swore to protect, players will learn and evolve powerful vampire abilities in their struggle to defeat London's deadly foes.
In a completely disorganized and ghostly city, those who are unlucky enough to walk the streets at night become prey to vampires. You step into the shoes of a man who has recently turned into a vampire. The game is as much about staying alive by hunting as it is about understanding your new affliction. It's definitely a new take on the genre. Killing certain citizens will have a greater impact on a locale than others, while simply killing too many may cause an entire district to collapse.
Reid's condition unearths a dark new reality as well, thrusting him into a once-hidden society of cursed creatures like himself. Terrifying beings like the ancient "Ekons" plot from the shadows, while the heinous "Vulkods" prowl the streets at night. Lastly, the grotesque "Skals" hide in the darkest places of the city waiting for victims.
Vampyr should launch on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 on June 5, 2018. It's unclear if the game supports Xbox One X at launch because the developer hasn't provided any details as of now. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more about the enhancements.
