It allows the phone to have more things in memory at once. In extreme cases it can affect speed, but this usually just affects large apps (like many games). Day-to-day it affects multitasking, which is why phones with more RAM can have more apps open at once.

The background apps will close, starting with the ones you used longest ago. Most of the time they save their current state onto permanent storage so they can resume when you come back to them, so often you won't even know this is going on except that these tombstoned (fully closed) apps sometimes show a 'Resuming ...' message.

If the current app is using all available memory even after closing all background apps and tasks, the phone will start to run very slowly. Hence why some apps are not available for low memory devices.

Cool game ... I remember it from my android days, finished it 3 times.
Pro Tip: Save up & Buy the Minigun ... You gonna need that fire power.

Awesome! Downloading it right now. I hope Supercell games (Boom Beach & Clash of Clans) make their way to Windows/Windows Phone soon.

Hey, all the apps in the store above 25 MB are asking for WiFi since yesterday... What's that?? It can't just happen, dropping the limit to 25 MB from 100 MB
