Fhotoroom

You may be familiar with Fhotoroom as a photo-editor, camera app and photo sharing Windows Phone app but did you know there's a Windows 8 version of the app?

While we have taken a look at the Windows 8 version of Fhotoroom before, a series of recent updates has delivered a serious design makeover to the app and a host of new features. The end result gives the photography app some serious mojo and well worth revisiting.

Fhotoroom is currently at version 5.5.1 and adds a HDR editor, Tiny Planets integration, RAW file support and a lot more. You also have a small footprint with the Windows 8 version of Fhotoroom that makes it especially appealing for Windows 8 tablets where storage space is often at a premium.

Update In a response to our inquiry if Fhotoroom had indeed reached the 5 million download mark for Windows Phone, they got back to us on Twitter by saying, "Just about, mostly like end of this month ... at the time shared it was for both WP and Win. That number has grown a fair bit. Metric are always moving target." The message added that an upcoming Windows Pbone 8.1 update "coming very soon will help" it reach that milestone.

Original story: Fhotoroom, the popular Windows Phone photography app, has not only released a new update today, but the folks behind it posted word on its store download page that the app has now exceeded 5 million downloads. Fhotoroom broke the 4 million download mark in May.

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Windows Phone Photography Apps

Seeing that May is National Photo Month here in the States, we decided to turn our sights on Windows Phone photography apps with this week's roundup.

The native Windows Phone camera app does a nice job of things, as does the Nokia Camera app for those sporting a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone. We will touch base on a few of the top rated photography apps that offer you an alternative to these two camera apps that will not only let you capture images but also edit them as well.

We've watched these four apps develop from their initial release to becoming rather capable Windows Phone photography apps. While our seasoned Windows Phone users may already be familiar with these titles, our newer users may not be and we'll dig a little deeper with this week's roundup to give those looking for a photo app option a better feel for things.

Only a handful of apps have been in the Windows Phone Store for years. The number of those apps that continue to get consistent updates is even smaller. Fhotoroom is one of those apps that has been around for a very long time, but still gets regular updates that fixes bugs and add features. We first reviewed Fhotoroom over two and a half years ago in January 2012. Today we’re not talking about an app update for Fhotoroom, instead we’re giving them a little congratulations for hitting some impressive milestones with Windows Phone and Windows 8.

Fhotoroom is a popular Windows Phone photography app that is part social network, part photo editor and part camera app. Fhotoroom can be used as a standalone app or you can register to share your photos with other Fhotoroom members. The Fhotoroom photo editor covers the basics, filters, and frame while the camera app offers you a decent amount of control over the Windows Phone camera.

The Windows Phone 8 version of Fhotoroom was recently updated to version 11, which has a healthy change log. The most notable additions with the update include an in-app store with free and paid for filters and a few new editing tools.

Two popular Windows Phone photography apps are in the process of being updated. Fhotoroom is a Windows Phone app that combines a photo editor, photo-sharing network and camera app under one roof. Fhotolens, from the same developer, is a camera app for Windows Phone 8 that is fitted with a virtual 10-24mm lens to offer a fish-eyed perspective on things.

The developer, Thomas Lock, is constantly working to improve these two apps and has released updates for both the Windows Phone 8 and 7.x versions of Fhotoroom. The version 1.8 update for Fhotolens had to be pulled to address a few bugs and should be rolling out in a few days (submitted for certification this past Friday).

Fhotolens is a new Windows Phone 8 photography app that is currently in the early stages of development.  It is the creation of the developers who bring us Fhotoroom and is a camera app that has an interactive, fish-eye lens effect.  Fhotolens’ results go beyond the bubble effects filter by using very accurate coding that reflects curvature to the lens, giving things a more realistic fish-eye effect.

We have gotten a sneak peak at an early beta version of Fhotolens and while there are some bugs still to be ironed out and a few additional features to be added to the mix, it makes a nice first impression.

Fhotoroom is a very popular Windows Phone and Windows 8 photography app.  It combines a healthy photo editor, a decent camera app and a photo-sharing network into a well designed app.

While Fhotoroom is a free app for both Windows Phone and Windows 8, add-on packs are available for in-app purchase with the Windows 8 version that added editing filters and brushes as well as removing the ads in the gallery.  The charge was minimal and helped cover the server costs.
