Lumia 925

Another carrier has (surprisingly) beat AT&T to the punch for the Lumia Denim update. T-Mobile US is now pushing out the update to its small but dedicated base of Lumia 925 owners, bringing some new firmware and an OS upgrade.

T-Mobile themselves have not updated their support page, but Microsoft has, and tips from users tell us the update is live. Indeed, we have checked on two of our Lumia 925s for the US carriers and have updates waiting.

Lumia Denim is still on its last leg of being pushed out to carriers and users around the world. However, there are still some holdouts. Although Denim is lagging on US carriers, it is due to extended testing, not it being cancelled. The same evidently cannot be said for T-Mobile Germany, conversely.

The information comes by way of their support forums, which we would consider semi-official.

Microsoft is planning to release an update for both the Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020, to hopefully address freezing issues many owners have been reporting since updating to Windows Phone 8.1. There has always been the odd issue with the two Windows Phones since both were launched, be it freezing, random restarts or even the occasional serious brick.

Update 3: The 8.1 update is live as our T-Mobile Lumia 925 now has Lumia Cyan (and it is also enrolled in the Preview for Developers program)

It looks like T-Mobile US is getting ready to unveil finally the Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan update for its venerable Lumia 925.

Evidence comes from T-Mobile's support forums, which detailed the over-the-air update. However, that page has since reverted and despite an earlier claim, we have not had an update for our Lumia 925s. It looks like T-Mobile may have jumped the gun a bit early, although we have all the details.

Do you carry more than one Windows Phone?

Do you carry more than one phone? One in the left pocket and another one in the right pocket? That's a discussion going on right now at the WPCentral Off-topic lounge. Forum moderator, Guytronic, asks the question after a friend noticed him having a Lumia 635 in the right pocket and the Lumia 925 in the left. If you do carry more than one device, is it because of some sort of addiction or is it because of necessity?

Back in the month of April, T-Mobile announced that it will be rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update to the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 521 over the summer. As we head into fall, there is no word of when the update will be available to users on either device, with a tweet from T-Mobile's support account only mentioning that an update will be available "later this year."

On Friday, Windows Phone Central broke the news about 'McLaren' being cancelled by Microsoft. Not much was known about the flagship Windows Phone except it was to feature the first instance of Microsoft's new 3D Touch UI. Although prototype phones likely get cancelled on occasion, the absence of McLaren causes a potential problem: what is going to the next Windows Phone flagship for the fall?

With the lack of high-end, high-profile Windows Phones for this November Microsoft may be in a bind. However, there may be a way out, and that involves making an updated Lumia 925.

If you're in the market for a Windows Phone device on AT&T, there are plenty of options, but it's really hard to ignore a metal-framed Nokia Lumia 925 for just $79.99 off contract (or free with a contract, if you don't feel like doing the math on how much you'll save). Granted, that's for a refurbished Lumia 925, but generally they're in like-new condition and sold with a full warranty. $79.99 off contract is a fantastic deal for nearly any phone, let alone one like the Lumia 925 where it retails normally for $399.99.
