Nokia Camera

With Nokia Camera, you can change a lot of camera settings like white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, and brightness to take the perfect photo, but all of that don't matter if you don't pay attention to framing or composition. Fortunately, Nokia Camera provides framing grids that you can activate within the settings. We'll teach you how to turn them on and how you can use them to improve your photos.

File this one under obvious, but as Microsoft continues to rebrand previous Nokia app releases for their Lumia line, the Nokia Camera app is most likely up next. Nokia Camera is perhaps the most high profile app for Nokia as it encompasses all of their photography might on Windows Phone, offering unique manual controls to mobile shutterbugs.

The apparent replacement name for Nokia Camera is of course Lumia Camera, a trend we saw kick off with the Lumia Help + Tips app. Evidence for the change is found under the app settings in the latest Nokia Camera release from this morning. Below the default settings, reference to 'Lumia Camera' instead of Nokia Camera, is found, giving substantial credence to the expected change.

Microsoft today released an update for the Nokia Camera app, available for Lumia Windows Phones. The app has been bumped to version 4.7.2.5, which brings its feature list up to speed with the beta counterpart. Highlighted functionality in this release include Living Images, surround sound capture and other features that will take full advantage of Lumia Cyan, as well as newer processors.

Light paintings are made with moving light sources in front of a camera to create an image. You need long exposure so the camera can capture the flow of moving lights. Nokia’s latest video shows how an expert light painter does it, using the Nokia Lumia 1020 with Nokia Camera. They also share tips on how you can do it, too. Head past the break to watch the video.

Nokia Storyteller was removed from the Windows Phone Store after the most recent update caused issues for consumers. The Nokia app allows consumers to sort through their galleries and categorise photos into easy-to-navigate albums. An interesting twist to the story was only low-end hardware were unaffected by the issues, leaving those with more powerful smartphones in the dark with no working app.

The manufacturer has since published the app on the Nokia Collection with a new release, not only that but we have a minor update for Nokia Camera too.

A handful of popular Windows Phone apps have received updates recently that appear to mainly deal with fixing bugs and improving performance.

First up is the addictive Empire building game from Disney Mobile, Star Wars: Tiny Death Star.  The game has you building an all-new Death Star and defeating the Rebel Alliance.  The update takes the game to version 1.0.1.7 and fixes the problem of stores not producing coins while the game is closed of minimized.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia and 1520 have incredible cameras that let you zoom in to your subjects while maintaining high image quality. You can thank the 41 and 20 megapixel sensors respectively in these Nokia PureView cameraphones. One app that does an excellent job of showing off the zoom power on these two devices is Sozoom for Windows Phone. If you already have the app, you should know that it has just received an update.

If you have a PureView Windows Phone (Lumia 920, Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520, etc.), chances are you've been enjoying the Nokia Camera app. But folk who own a Lumia Windows Phone that does not sport PureView camera technology have not been able to enjoy the same experience. That is until now.

Nokia previously stated at its conference in Abu Dhabi that all Lumia Windows Phones would soon be able to be loaded with Nokia Camera, not just handsets in the 92x series or higher. The company has today released a beta version of its popular camera app that includes support for more hardware. The only requirement is either the Nokia Amber or Nokia Black firmware update (according to Nokia's website).

There’s very little debate that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is capable of taking some fantastic pictures.  But would you test that theory on such a memorable event as a wedding?  An event where the moment doesn’t always afford you the chance to re-take the picture?

Wedding photographer Joy Marie Smallwood took such a chance at a recent wedding that took place at Capella Pedregal in Cabo, Mexico.  The results held true to the Lumia 1020’s reputation.

Nokia has updated its Nokia Camera app for both Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 owners to take full advantage of the upcoming RAW image format support. We previously looked at company plans to add capabilities for the Windows Phones to save photos in lossless DNG (Digital Negative) format, but this app update is a small hint that the wait is almost over.

This morning Nokia has bumped up their new Camera app from version 4.3.0.6 to 4.3.0.9. If that sounds like a minor improvement, you would be correct as we can’t see any initial differences. Neither does the app description reveal any added features or fixed bugs. If we had to guess, Nokia was polishing off some little tidbits in the app, perhaps preparing it for the Lumia 1520 which is due to launch real soon here in the US.

Last week we reported on the status of Nokia Camera, the new app that combines Nokia’s Pro and Smart Cam apps into one with some new UI changes and features. That update was supposed to be released on Friday but it was postponed for more in-depth testing.

Today, that update is now available. Version 4.3.0.6 is live in the Store for all Lumia 92x and Lumia 1020 owners. This update is expected to fix a re-cropping issue that some users were experiencing when saving images. No other features have been reported.
