Tap Tap Legions is a fast-paced, action/adventure game where you command an army against a host of monsters. Available for both Windows Phone and PC, Tap Tap Legions has 64 levels of gameplay, plenty of special weapons and 12 types of soldiers to command. Tap Tap Legions also closes out this month's AdDuplex HERO Apps.
By being a member of the HERO App lineup, Tap Tap Legions becomes a part of a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The campaign partners AdDuplex with AppDeals, TechRewards and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.
The story behind Tap Tap Legions has an invasion of monsters disrupting a Royal Wedding. The bride is kidnapped and the King must rally the troops and take to battle to save his love.
The game's menu is rather minimal with options to jump into gameplay and access Tap Tap Legion's settings menu. Settings for the game are brief and includes options to mute the sound and music.
Gameplay with Tap Tap Legions begins with a short animated introduction that transitions into a brief tutorial on how to play the game. The gaming screen has any available troops displayed at the bottom of the display along with the game timer.
Battles have the enemy monsters entering from the right of the display. Your King is to the left and is perched high on a chariot. Your job is to deploy troops to defeat the monsters before they reach the King's chariot and destroy him. To do so, you tap on the icon of the soldier type to deploy that unit. If you are playing Tap Tap Legions from a non-touch device, you can deploy your troops using keyboard controls.
You have 15 seconds to deploy as many troops as possible and once time expires, the battle plays out with however many soldiers you are able to put in the field.
Battles take place in at least two stages. The first stage requires you to breach a monster's barricade. The remaining stages simply have your troops take on any enemy troops behind the safety of the barricade, There are rather intense boss battles that will take all your tapping skills to place enough troops into play to secure victory.
The twelve soldier classes range from swordsmen to archers to peasants armed with brooms. The soldier classes become available as you progress in the game and each troop is eligible for upgrade using the gold you earn during battles. As more soldier classes become available, you can pick and choose up to five soldier styles you want to deploy prior to a gaming level.
Tap Tap Legions also has a series of bonus items and penalty items that are mixed in with your soldier types at the bottom of the gaming screen. These items range from bombs that destroys several monsters at once to items that deduct time from your 15-second timer.
To add to the challenge of the game, the troop selection changes with every tap you make. This is a fun twist to the game and requires you to stay on your toes to avoid tapping the wrong tile. One second the tile is an archer, the next it is a bomb that destroys your troops instead of the monsters. You will need to tap quickly to build up the troop count, but not so quickly you hit the wrong tiles.
All in all, Tap Tap Legions is an entertaining game to spend a little time with. The free, ad-supported game does play out better from a touchscreen device with the keyboard controls feeling a bit cumbersome. The cartoon-style graphics are full of color and nicely animated, and gameplay is full of challenge and has a zippy pace. Tap Tap Legions is just plain fun.
