Another Exclusive Xbox Live announcement: Gun Bros coming to Windows Phone

Yesterday WPCentral promised to reveal two upcoming Xbox Live games from Glu Mobile, the first of which is Contract Killer. Today we follow up with the announcement of a second, even more exciting Glu title: Gun Bros.

Gun Bros (pronounced ‘bros,’ not ‘brothers') is a twin-stick overhead shooter. Players control either of the two beefy siblings as they fight to stop the evil organization known as T.O.O.L. (no relation to the band, whose concert was the first I ever attended) from stealing the galaxy’s valuable Xplodium resources. The plot is basically an excuse to head from planet to planet, taking on missions of various difficulties, killing tons of unfriendly aliens, and collecting as much Xplodium as you can.

Between missions, the Gun Bros can process their Xplodium to turn it into gold. Better processing methods unlock as you go along. Gold is then used to buy new weapons and armor pieces. The character customization element adds a nice degree of depth and helps the heroes survive against more challenging foes.

Gun Bros’ freemium element comes from its second currency, War Bucks. These are an optional PDLC purchase that let you buy premium equipment (much like the coins in Bug Village).Premium items are much better than regular ones, making progression faster and easier. Gun Bros is an action game though, and you can play it as much as you want (no time constraints here) without buying War Bucks.

Another way to stay ahead of the alien hordes is by forming a Brotherhood, Gun Bros’ multiplayer-esque feature. Brotherhood members can recruit each other’s characters, who will then fight alongside them as AI companions. Experience gained by AI players transfers over to their owners, so friends can help each other out even without actual simultaneous multiplayer. Think of it like joining a friend’s game in Crackdown: Project Sunburst, only there’s actually a point in this game.

Gun Bros should arrive around the same time as Contract Killer – in May or the summer months. Both games will feature 200 GamerScore. Like yesterday’s announced game, you can try the PC version of Gun Bros for free right now using Google’s Chrome browser. It’s actually pretty fun and addictive, so why not give it a shot, bro? WPCentral will have more details to share about both newly-announced Glu Mobile titles soon!

  • Yess!!
  • Looks cool
  • So what about the $500 dlc gun?
  • Hahahaha
  • played the heck out of this on my old ipod touch.  should be a blast on my focus flash, along with the achievements.
  • Can I request the game lil' kingdom from them? Or samuri vs. Zombies defense?
  • I'm not a big fan of  " freemium ", I'd rather just pay for the game. I will not support it
  • You know you don't have to download any extra content. Pretty worthless comment which is a shame cuz I usually agree with you.
  • And that's just my opinion. I don't expect you to agree with everything. If you support it then good for you. I hope you enjoy it
  • I don't support it either or any DLC for that matter, I just don't buy the extras
  • omg yeeeesss!!*. I use to play a game like that for hooours in a arcade near my childhood home... WP is really starting to shine with these exclusive games!
  • This is not exclusive
  • Why does it have to be used in fuckín Google chrome?
  • Chrome basically has an App Store where you can install games like these.  Also, Chrome is pretty awesome anyway.
  • Themann, srsly... R E A D
You can try it for free now otherwise you wait for release.
Google Chrome offers it as a widget in the web store.
  • I did read it, I just don't like Google, their products shouldn't be promoted on here. That's my problem.
  • you can stick it to google by not playing the free gun bros game!
  • We're not promoting Chrome; we're promoting Gun Bros. Everyone is entitled to their browser preferences, but it's silly to hate one or another, especially when Chrome is one of the better ones.
  • Free is good, as long as it is legitimately playable free.  Anyways, gald to hear the news and will definitely check it out when it drops.
EDIT: Gameplay feels pretty good in the Chrome version.  But I couldn't play much of it, my "rig" can only run it in about 4 frames per sec.
  • Tyler, it's time to trade in that 286 and get a Pentium, man!
  • I called it yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a happy man.  CrunchyRoll and Gun Bros,  Bang, bang!
  • Nice prediction there. :)
  • As long as I don't need to pay for dlc to be able to obtain achievements then I'm ok with it.
  • Right on!!
  • Been playing this on my Android device, can't wait for it to come to wp7 so I can get achievements
