Xbox One Media Remote Review – Almost all the right buttons

Xbox One Media Remote Review – Almost all the right buttons

The Xbox One is quite the media playing powerhouse, poor user library streaming aside. With support for most popular video streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, Blu-ray playback, and the ability to control many cable TV boxes directly through the console, it has most of the movie and TV-watching bases covered. Kinect voice commands for video playback can be fun too.

Still - for many movie and TV watchers, nothing beats the feel, convenience, and responsiveness of a traditional remote control. Microsoft has finally released the Xbox One Media Remote with just those people in mind. Despite widespread stock issues since the remote’s release, we’ve finally managed to pick on up and put it through its paces.

Skype has been picking up some impressive updates the past few weeks. About a month ago the service was updated to fix syncing across all your various devices. At the same time, the modern Windows 8 Skype app was updated. Shortly after, Skype for Windows Phone was later updated to require a Microsoft account only and not a Skype account. Outlook.com picked up support for HD Skype video calls and another update for the Windows 8 app come out with even faster syncing. Xbox One sales numbers crush the Xbox 360 — combined consoles hold 43% of the market

After Microsoft’s Xbox One Reveal event, we were not sure exactly how the console would fare in the marketplace. The original variation of the console, which was originally tied down by strict digital rights management protection created a backlash that we were unsure if Microsoft could shake even after their decision to rethink the decision. Do not be worried though – Xbox One is the most successful Xbox console sold to date.

What are the benefits of jumping into the Microsoft ecosystem with an Xbox One?

Our forums here at Windows Phone Central can be considered the breath and soul of the site itself; a place where fellow "Microsofties" can talk about the technology they hold dearest. In a post this week, WPCentral Member Dallas Gaston asks whether he should grab an Xbox One to pair with his Windows 8.1 Desktop, Surface 2 Pro, and Nokia Lumia 1520 or grab a PlayStation as he always has in the past.

Guide – How to use the Xbox One controller with your PC or Windows 8 tablet [Updated]

Guide – How to use the Xbox One controller with your PC or Windows 8 tablet [Updated]

The Xbox One controller is one of the finest control pads ever designed. The same goes for the Titanfall Limited Edition Controller we just reviewed. But one flaw compared to Xbox 360 controllers is that Xbox One controllers don’t work on computers and tablets. Blame Microsoft, who have yet to release a PC driver even though it would take virtually no effort to do so.

Luckily, a hobbyist developer named Lucas Assis has developed a temporary Xbox One controller driver for Windows 7 and 8. It doesn't work on Windows RT, so this won't help regular Surface users. His solution requires the use of several companion programs (bundled with the driver) and a few quarts of elbow grease, but it does actually work. Until now, you’d have to endure a somewhat painful tutorial video in order to guide you through the process. Lucky for you guys, I’ve gone through that already so that we can bring you this easy-to-understand written guide!

How to stream multimedia to your Xbox One from your Windows PC

How to stream multimedia to your Xbox One from your Windows PC

When Microsoft released the Xbox One back in November of 2013, the console came without the ability to play multimedia from an external device, such as a flash drive. It seemed that the ultimate entertainment console would not be able to play any of your personal content and instead you would be locked to approve multimedia apps on the platform, but that is not the case.

Review – Titanfall Limited Edition Controller for Xbox One

Review – Titanfall Limited Edition Controller for Xbox One

The Xbox One’s first killer app Titanfall launched earlier this week, and appears to be selling like hotcakes. The release of a big new console game often inspires players to pick up a few accessories, and Titanfall is no different. In addition to deluxe third-party headsets, Microsoft has just released its own Xbox One Stereo Headset as well as the Titanfall Limited Edition Wireless Controller.

Nobody needs a new controller just for Titanfall; it’s an online-only game without support for local multiplayer. But the Limited Edition Controller is extremely stylish, and you probably need an extra controller for other multiplayer games anyway. We’ve got lots of photos, a hands-on video, and even a list of local multiplayer Xbox One games in our detailed review.
