Updated December 12, 2019: The mode is available now. It's a small download so it shouldn't take you too much time to get racing.

Forza Horizon 4 is an open-world racing game where you can explore Scotland and surrounding areas. It's absolutely stunning and even offers a 1080p 60 frames per second (FPS) mode on Xbox One X. Of course, you can always play it at native 4K and 30 FPS if you choose.

Out of nowhere, developer Playground Games just announced that the game is getting a free battle royale mode on December 12, tomorrow. The press release we received said the following.

In celebration of our amazing fans, we bring you an all-new, battle royale inspired game mode, The Eliminator, coming to Forza Horizon 4 for free in the Series 17 update on December 12. The Eliminator invites up to 72 players to face off within an arena set in the open world of Britain. Eliminating one another in head-to-head races to earn upgrades and a chance to pick up faster cars. Arena walls contract throughout the game, forcing players closer together until a final white-knuckle race among the survivors determines the winner.

This is definitely a new take on the racing genre and we can't wait to see how it's received by gamers. Are you going to try it out? Let us know. Even though Playground is working on a new role-playing game, possibly Fable IV, it's great to see that Forza Horizon 4 is being supported this well after launch. Hopefully, this isn't the last of the new content.

  • Nobody asked for this
  • People actually did.
  • What an original idea. Nobody asked for this and it looks like it's gonna be dumb from the looks of it. Half baked battle royal nonsense that nobody will be playing a week or so after it releases.
  • Aww, I was hoping for a Demolition Derby style mode :(
  • Sounds like Fast and Furious racing for pink slips.
  • You know what? It's free, they pump new content regularly and I'm happy to give it a go. I still remember games you bought and that was it, bugs, no dlc, no patches. Enjoy it for what it is an addition to an already amazing game. Playground games are a top notch developer and hooefully their RPG (fable please) will take the throne just like Forza has of the racing genre
  • This looks like fun and free too! Thanks Turn 10!
