Forza Motorsport 5 and Hydro Thunder Hurricane now free through Xbox Games with Gold

The first pair of free Xbox Games with Gold for September are now available. Starting today, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can nab both Forza Motorsport 5 and Hydro Thunder Hurrican for free.

If Xbox is your platform of choice, the Forza series should already be pretty familiar to you. Forza Motorsport 5, in particular, was a hyped launch title for the console all the way back in 2013. The game offers up hundreds of cars to race on tracks around the world, and it laid the groundwork for Forza titles on Xbox One. And since the next entry in the series, Forza Motorsport 7 (opens in new tab), is due out at the end of September, this freebie might be a good way to dip your toes in and take Forza for a test drive.

On the Xbox 360 side of things, Hydro Thunder Hurrican is an arcade racing title in which you control rocket-powered boats. The game is made by Vector Unit, the developer behind other aquatic racers like the recent Riptide GP: Renegade.

Forza Motorsport 5 will be free throughout the entire month of September, while Hydro Thunder Hurricane will only stay free through September 15. In the latter half of the month, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can also pick up Oxenfree on Xbox One and Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360.

  • I bought my Day One Xbox One specifically for Forza 5. It was incredibly fun even though it seemed quite lacking by the standards of Forza 4, almost like it had been rushed into production just to meet the release date of the console. They finally released Nurburgring after something close to a year which made it feel much more complete. Overall it will be a good way to whet the appetite of potential buyers of Forza 7 which is coming out in a month.
  • Forza 5 was one of the titles that I originally bought with my Xbox One:)  good game:)
  • Mine was a Forza 6 console (now with my 17 year old as I got a Gears of War 2TB Xbox One S). Am awful at racing games but wanted Forza 5. Am glad I waited for it now.
  • I wonder why WC doesn't mention the free play weekends anymore. right now FM6 is free to play.. today I guess being it's last day, not sure if it'll get extended through tomorrow being a holiday. And as far as FM5, the car pass and VIP are currently on sale from the MS store.  So people who is just trying out FM5 might want to take a look at those, I believe the car pass is $5 while the VIP is only $2.50
