Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred will release earlier than expected in the US, and teams up with Overwatch for some of the coolest skins I've ever seen

Diablo 4 just had its final developer stream before the launch of its second expansion, Lord of Hatred, on April 28. There's a lot of information to get through from the global launch times, patch notes, and a hella cool Overwatch collaboration, so without further ado, here's what you missed!

When does the Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred DLC launch in my country?

Surprise Americans! You actually get Lord of Hatred early on April 27, 2026. Rollout starts from 4:00 PDT and the developers showed a map (above) of the worldwide simultaneous launch times.

It will be 12 a.m. for me in the United Kingdom, but I'm not bitter at all, honest.

Pre-download of Lord of Hatred, and patch 3.0.0 starts from April 23 at 4:00 p.m. PDT on PC and consoles. Note that you’ll be able to pre-download the 3.0.0 patch regardless of whether you purchased the expansion.

Yes they are really adding fishing, it wasn't a joke

If you want a break from smashing demons' brains, you can take solace in one of Sanctuary's fishing spots. There are multiple varieties of fish, and you can trade with other players to complete your collection.

This is unlocked early with a 'Shark's Quest' storyline given to you upon arriving in Skovos. You can fish anywhere that fish reside, enjoy the relaxation, unless something is hiding in the water to ruin your day...

Season of Reckoning starts with the expansion

With the new expansion, comes a new season, the Season of Reckoning. When you go into the new content you may want to start a Seasonal character so you can jump into the seasonal chapters after you are done with the new campaign material.

There are no specific storylines or gameplay activities for the season as the focus is on Lord of Hatred campaign and the sweeping changes that is bringing to both Eternal and Seasonal realms such as the Skill Tree updates, new progression and difficulties. However two new season ranks have been added for you to complete for rewards.

You can now earn:

  • Up to 12 Skill Points
  • Up to 42 Paragon points
  • Up to 14 Resplendent Sparks
  • Loathroot pet
  • Hateful Heraldry Mount Trophy
  • New emblems
  • New titles
  • Special title laurels (icons that appear next to your chosen title to celebrate your prowess)
  • Crafting and Masterworking materials, currency, boss keys, and more
  • Caches containing gear and all kinds of useful materials, including runes, sigils, seals, and charms

Level cap has increased to 70 (again) and more difficulty levels

Beginning with the new season, whether you own the expansion or not, the new level cap for Diablo 4 characters is now 70. Torment levels run from 4 to 12 awarding bigger gold and experience bonuses and improved drop rates on gear and mats.

Diablo 4 Patch 3.0.0

The patch notes are now available for your perusal in full over on Blizzard's site, but here's the top-line info I thought the most tasty:

Massive gem overhaul reworks

These will now provide multiplicative damage bonuses based on specific elements rather than situational conditions (like Vulnerable or Critical Strike damage).

  • Amethyst: Now grants Shadow Damage.
  • Diamond: Now grants All Damage (replacing Ultimate Damage).
  • Emerald: Now grants Poison Damage.
  • Ruby: Now grants Fire and Holy Damage.
  • Sapphire: Now grants Cold Damage.
  • Topaz: Now grants Lightning Damage.
  • Skull: Now grants Physical Damage (replacing Life on Kill).

BEHOLD we finally get a map overlay!

No longer will we get lost in the deep dark corners of a dungeon, as Diablo 4 finally gives us the option of choosing between the minimap or a map overlay to help us navigate.

Set up the level of zoom and opacity in Options > Gameplay, as well as customize your map overlay color.

For quick access, go to Options > Controls to set up keyboard shortcuts to toggle between Map Overlay and Minimap and adjust your zoom and opacity on the fly.

Inventory improvements

Items in the inventory can now also be stacked to a max of 1,000.

Content and endgame updates

  • The Artificer’s Tower: The Tower activity has been renamed to The Artificer’s Tower, and loot rewards have been improved across the board to make it more rewarding for endgame progression.
  • Monster Affix Visuals: Highly requested clarity changes have arrived. Shielded monsters are now more visually distinct, and the immunity they grant to other monsters is easier to strip. Reprisal (damage reflect) is now a lobbed projectile, giving players a better chance to dodge it.

Loot and economy changes

  • Obducite Fix: A bug that prevented Obducite from dropping from certain enemies in Nightmare Dungeons has been fixed, smoothing out the Masterworking grind.
  • Unique Focuses: You can now finally acquire Unique Focuses from the Purveyor of Curiosities (Gambling).
  • Vendor Level Requirements: Items at vendors now correctly have level requirements, preventing players from cheesing high-power gear onto low-level characters.

Expansion pre-download

  • This patch officially contains the pre-download data for the Lord of Hatred expansion and the Season of Reckoning, meaning the files for the new Spiritborn class and the Nahantu region are being staged in your game client.

Blizzard fans, we are eating GOOD, as Overwatch is also celebrating the launch of Lord of Hatred with a huge collection of cosmetics inspired by Diablo 4 dropping into the game as part of the Hatred's Reckoning event.

There's 5 new legendary skins as well as 4 returning from a previous collab.

  • Ramattra x Mephisto: Recasts the tank as the Lord of Hatred.
  • Brigitte x Paladin: A holy, armored look for the support hero.
  • Freja x Rogue: (Note: Freja is a new hero for 2026) A shadow-stalking, precise look.
  • Lifeweaver x Warlock: Blends creation with dark corruption.
  • Mauga x Druid: Harnesses the ferocity of the wilds.

The returning fan favorites from the previous Trials of Sanctuary event are Moira x Lilith, Pharah x Inarius, Reinhardt x Imperius, and Sombra x Gilded Hunter.

The original event challenges return, allowing players to earn doom-forged rewards they might have missed the first time around. A "Crab with a Knife" weapon charm can be earned during the event, and there are a bunch of Twitch Drops to look out for from April 14 to May 10. Players can earn a Wolf Pup Weapon Charm (1 hour watched) and a Sword Weapon Charm (2 hours watched) by viewing participating Overwatch streams.

Hatred’s Downfall Community Challenge

Aaaaaand finally, back to Diablo 4, there will be a huge community event for fans to celebrate the launch of Lord of Hatred. Starting with the release of the expansion, if the Diablo IV community can rally together to collectively earn 266,600,000 global Paragon Points the Crown of Hatred will be rewarded to all players. This is combined between Eternal and Seasonal realms.

We also have a music video to look forward to for the Korn song 'Reward the Scars' that dropped today inspired by the game. Not only did Mephisto drag Jon David out of retirement to record a song, the video drops on April 27, 2026 at 10 a.m. PDT on the YouTube Premiere page.

See you guys in Sanctuary on April 28th for Lord of Hatred! (In the UK anyway...27th for you Americans!)
