Final Fantasy XIV players face persistent DDoS disruptions during its new savage raid release — 15 MMO outage incidents per day
Final Fantasy XIV’s latest savage raid release is being disrupted by repeated DDoS attacks, with US players reporting frequent disconnects, lost progress, and growing frustration.
Final Fantasy XIV remains one of the most popular MMOs in the world, with a huge and dedicated player base. Even within my own family, I have seen how easy it is to sink thousands of hours into Square Enix’s long-running online RPG.
However, US-based players attempting to take part in the newly released savage raid tier (Arcadion: Heavyweight Division) are running into serious problems. Since the eight-player savage content went live, North American servers have been repeatedly disrupted by ongoing DDoS attacks, causing players to be disconnected mid-content, lose progress, and face repeated queue times when trying to rejoin.
Reports from the community suggest these attacks have occurred multiple times per day in some cases, with players tracking as many as 15 incidents in a single day. With event progression heavily affected, frustration is growing over why the issue persists and how long it will take to stabilise.
Repeated DDoS attacks are disrupting progression, queues, and organized play
Players across North America describe the issue as frequent and predictable rather than isolated. Many report disconnects occurring roughly once per hour during peak playtimes, with some sessions seeing multiple drops in quick succession.
Several players say the problem worsens after entering instanced content, particularly savage raids. In those cases, a single disconnect can immediately end an attempt or force an entire group to disband.
Adding further frustration, players on European and Japanese servers appear largely unaffected. Some North American players have attempted to switch to Oceania servers, only for those servers to experience disruption as well. That imbalance leaves North American players at a disadvantage during a competitive raid release, where players battle it out to be the first ones to finish the raid.
With the issue persisting across multiple patches, frustration is increasingly aimed at Square Enix’s communication. Players are asking for clearer reassurance and long-term stability from a paid subscription service, particularly as this is not the first time similar problems have occurred.
While Square Enix has acknowledged the disruptions through brief updates, players report that disconnects continued as recently as yesterday. For many, that gap between acknowledgement and resolution is becoming harder to ignore.
