Gears 5 official tech test trailer shows off arcade mode, takes place this weekend

What you need to know

  • The new Gears 5 Tech Test Trailer has been released, showing off Arcade Mode.
  • Arcade Mode is a new mode in Gears 5 that allows you to earn points and call in bigger guns as you play.
  • Arcade Mode is also being billed as easier for newcomers to understand and get the hang of Gears.
  • Gears 5 releases on September 10, 2019 on Xbox One and PC (September 6 for Ultimate Edition owners).

Gears 5 is just a couple of months away but if you want to get your hands bloody this weekend, the upcoming Versus Tech Test is going to let you try out several Versus modes, including the all-new Arcade Mode. Arcade allows players to earn points for kills, then call in heavy weapons (like a Mulcher) with those points. Do you save your points for bigger and better guns, or do you invest in the here-and-now? It's a tough call and something that makes this new mode look extremely promising.

Ahead of the weekend however, The Coalition has released an official trailer for the Versus Tech Test, showing off some of the new features players can expect to see in Arcade. It's brutal, bloody and looks like a ton of fun.

That trailer looks brutal, beautiful and smooth, which isn't surprising: according to The Coalition, Gears 5 will run at 4K, 60fps on Xbox One X in every mode. If you are new to Gears however, don't be intimidated. Bootcamp is a new mode for players like you that'll teach you everything you need to know.

Gears 5 releases on September 10, 2019 for Xbox One and PC (through the Windows Store and Steam). As with all games from Xbox Game Studios, Gears 5 will be available day and date on Xbox Game Pass. If you are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can play the Ultimate Edition of the game on September 6.
