Get an R2-D2 Xbox Live avatar with all six Star Wars movies on Xbox Video April 10

All six Star Wars movies will be released via official digital HD download store outlets for the first time on Friday, April 10. That includes Microsoft's Xbox Video and the company is throwing in a couple of freebies, including a free R2-D2 Xbox Live avatar.

In fact, all of the movies are available for pre-purchase right now on Xbox Video for $19.99 each or you can get all six for $99.99. All of the movies have some exclusive behind-the-scenes extras along with deleted scenes. Plus, if you get all six movies you can get that R2-D2 Xbox Live avatar, plus a Star Wars Pinball Pack for Zen Studios's Pinbal FX2 game for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Microsoft adds:

"In addition, Disney is offering a Star Wars featurette video exclusively for Xbox customers; only by pre-purchasing the Saga on Xbox Video will you receive an exclusive roughly 60 second sneak peek at the bonus material included in the Star Wars Digital Movie Collection. Customers will receive the Xbox-exclusive featurette when they pre-purchase the "Star Wars" saga bundle on Xbox Video, then all six epic films in the Saga will be added to their collection in all their high-definition glory on April 10."

Obviously, you can also purchase these movies to play on your Windows Phone or Windows 8.1 device, or you can play them on the Xbox Video website. Also, we want to get this out of the way; yes, the three movies in the "classic" Star Wars trilogy are of the Special Edition variety, rather than the films in their original form.

  • Avatar have no use in Xbox ONE.
  • I was thinking the same thing. I wonder why?
  • Not only do they have zero use on Xbox One, but the newer avatars that you can create in Kinect Sports Rivals, are far superior to their aging, Xbox 360 cousins.  After playing Kinect Sports Rivals, even if they did bring the old school avatars to Xbox One, I still would not care.
  • To be fair they have zero use on the 360 as well. It's just that they are more visible as they are featured front and center on the dashboard. On the XB1 you have to open the Avatar app to see them.
  • Absolutely CORRECT!
  • Not yet
  • It does. You can make a gamer pic out of it
  • Stop. Stealing. From. My. Wallet. Seriously, Microsoft and Disney just keep putting out great stuff.
  • How do you feel about Kingdom Hearts? I personally can't wait
  • Can't wait!
  • It's really an Avatar prop (or pet if you will) for your Avatar to play with or admire. Super cool thou.
  • I'll save my money and rip my blurays
  • Here here. Don't get the binding digital content that unless you own and subscribe to Xbox Gold for the rest of your life you really never really own anything. Freaking genius on all of these billionaire companies and freaking media rights companies
  • What? You dont need gold to buy and watch movies on xbox video
  • Don't have to be a live gold customer to stream the collection from your windows pc
  • Is there a bundle for only the good Star Wars movies?
  • $10 more than the physical copies of the entire series in stores
  • Ofcorse it is its hd after all
  • Is that better than the Blu-ray set they sell at Best Buy & Target? I'm really not sure what the difference is in HD stream or Blue-ray disks
  • Blu-Ray discs you're sure to always play in full HD while streaming you will always be dependent on your ISP's goodwill to maintain a constant good connection for streaming. As far as I go, nothing ever beats physical copies of things. Be it films, music, games or books. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • RE: RJCBS,
Thank you. So the technical quality is the same, assuming you have a good internet connection, which means you can't watch it everywhere, all the time, nor always consistently from beginning to end.
  • I'll add another important difference: Audio. You won't get the full fidelity by streaming that you can with the actual disc. Again, it is all dependent on the source of the stream (whether it can be streamed as 5.1 or 7.1) and how good your internet connection is. I prefer buying the disc and ripping it to my media server.
  • You get bonuses
  • What a bonus! An avatar ... Seriously!
  • So the prop will be sold separately aswell I assume
  • Why not release it on 4-5-2015? Seems like the obvious choice, unless you're from the USA and need it in the format of 5-4-2015...
  • I guess they want ppl to finish watching the whole series again before 4 May. ;)
  • Actually "May the Fourth" (5/4/2015) only works in the US as the rest of the English Speaking World (with some exceptions maybe) says "Fourth of May" (4/5/2015) ;) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I'm British and I say January the 1st and May the 4th and December the 25th
  • If it was the original trilogy, maybe. But I will never buy the prequels.
  • Pass
  • On a related note to Star Wars, how would you suggest watching the 6 movies? 456123 or the usual 123456, where 4 is A New Hope? ;) :D
  • I personally go, 4561234. Or, more accurately in my case 45634
  • 123456
  • 123456 because it is in-universe chronological order. It shows the rise, the fall, and the redemption of Annikan Skywalker. Actually, you should do a little bit of pacing to really get a feel for the time differences. Plus, Obi Wan's "that's a name I haven't heard in a long time" line feels more epic when you aren't coming right off 3. Watch 1 in April Watch 2 and 3 in late May Watch 4 in July Watch 5 in August Watch 6 in October Watch 7 when it releases
  • That's a good idea, thanks
But why not 3 in June so that there's almost one a month?
  • It also tells the story of Anakin, which is far more interesting than Annikan's, Anakin's evil twin brother. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Tho is my plan too, will pick this digital set later this month. I was waiting for a good reason to start owning digitally, and this is it.
  • 4, 5, 6. I'm not aware of the existence of 1, 2 and 3. That's my story and I'm sticking with it ;P (It makes more sense to go from 1 to 6 though. At least you end with a better film, despite the Ewoks) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • the first three released in 1999,2002,2005 respectively.
  • Ah, lost on this one sarcasm is... Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Hey I like the ewoks!!!
  • Neither of those is correct. Watch in this order:
    451236 or 45236

  • In Spain 74.99€!
  • Any word on pricing?
  • Given in the article. $19.99 each or $99.99 for the complete set.
  • $89.99 for the complete set according to Xbox Video
  • If Greedo is shooting first, I have zero F's to give. Or dollars, for that matter.
  • I hope that one day Disney will release the despecialised editions officially. No desire to buy otherwise.
  • Agreed!!!
  • 100€ for the 6 movies in digital format? LOL! Oh Disney... I bought the 6 movies plus the additional 3 extra discs of content in the Blu-Ray Collector's Edition for half the price. I can just rip them off to play digitally. Actually I can even rip off the original VHS versions (you know...the ones without Lucas additions...the ones you refuse to release) to have them digitally and they'll be fine to see on a phone or tablet. So thanks...But no, thanks. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Awesome!
  • I'd buy them at Vudu because of Disney Movies Anywhere.
  • These are not the originals you're looking for.......
  • Does Episode IV show Han Solo shooting Geedo first? If not I will pass.
  • So how do you get the avatar?
