HTC Announces Touch Pro 2

What, you thought that the Touch Pro and the Fuze were the pinnacle of QWERTY sliders, never to be outdone? You thought wrong, chummer, and here's the reason: the HTC Touch Pro 2. What did HTC change? Well, here are the specs:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro
  • 3G, quad-band edge
  • WiFi, GPS, FM Radio
  • Motion sensor
  • MicroSD (SD 2 Compatible)
  • 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200
  • 512ROM/288 RAM
  • 3.6" 480x800 WVGA screen
  • 4.57" x 2.33" x .68", 6.17 oz
  • 1500 mAh Battery
  • 3.2 mp camera

OK, we might have oversold it in that first paragraph. What we have here is essentially a Touch Pro with a higher resolution screen, Windows Mobile 6.1, and a "2" after the name. So it's a small bump to be sure, but it's a bump into WVGA resolution, which MWC09 seems to be teaching us will be the new standard. As you can see, HTC appears to be ending its experiments both with faceted backs and with fingerprint magnets and instead delivering us a smooth, handle-able form factor.

Availability is "early summer" across global markets, so it's a safe bet we'll see this hit the U.S. around that time frame.

There are also a couple new software features to be excited about, you'll see some hints of them after the jump in the full press release.

NEW HTC TOUCH DIAMOND2 AND HTC TOUCH PRO2 SIGNAL A NEW WAVE IN COMMUNICATION

New phones simplify information access with HTC Push Internet and unify personal communication with single-view contact integration

BARCELONA — Feb 16, 2009 — HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile phones, today unveiled two new flagship devices, the HTC Touch Diamond2ä and HTC Touch Pro2ä.  Integrating innovative simplicity with unique style and an intuitive interface, the devices balance function, form and cutting-edge technology to personalize the communication and mobile Internet experience.

“The HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond2 introduce a mobile communication experience that simplifies how we communicate with people in our lives whether through voice, text or email,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp. “HTC is delivering the latest, cutting-edge sophistication in a broad portfolio of mobile phones that improve how people live, work and communicate.”

HTC TOUCHFLO 3D INTEGRATED WITH WINDOWS MOBILE

The HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 utilize HTC’s latest TouchFLO 3D interface. TouchFLO 3D has been more deeply integrated into a customized version of Windows Mobile 6.1 to deliver more consistency throughout Windows Mobile applications and menus. Focused on making navigation easier and more intuitive, TouchFLO 3D brings important information to the top-level user interface, including quick access to people, messaging, email, photos, music and weather.  As part of this improved Windows Mobile integration the touch focus areas have been enlarged to be more finger-touch friendly.

BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER

With the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2, HTC is introducing a new people-centric communication approach, providing a single contact view that displays the individual conversation history of contacts regardless of whether voice, text or email were used.  This can be viewed from the contact card or the in-call screen during a phone conversation, ensuring the latest communication contact-by-contact is always at hand.

SIMPLIFYING HOW PEOPLE ACCESS THEIR INFORMATION

Continuing its commitment to making the mobile Internet easier and more enjoyable, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 introduce HTC’s Push Internet technology.   HTC Push Internet alleviates slow downloading and rendering of Web pages on a mobile phone. Users can preselect their favorite Websites to get immediate access to them when needed.

HTC TOUCH DIAMOND2

The HTC Touch Diamond2 is the next step in the evolution of the successful HTC Touch Diamond. Crafted to fit perfectly into the hand, the Touch Diamond2 evolves the compact design and iconic style of the original HTC Touch Diamond. It incorporates a larger 3.2-inch high-resolution wide-screen VGA display for a greater viewing area in a design just 13.7mm thick. The phone also includes a new touch sensitive zoom bar for even faster zooming of Web pages, emails, text messages, photos or documents.

Leveraging HTC’s TouchFLO 3D experience combined with a people-centric communication approach and HTC’s new Push Internet technology The Touch Diamond2 offers an advanced touch experience that is optimized for one-hand use.

With fifty-percent better battery life, a five mega-pixel auto focus camera, expandable memory, gravity sensor and an ambient light sensor, the Touch Diamond2 brings the most sophisticated capabilities to a broad consumer audience looking for the professional benefits of a smartphone without sacrificing size, looks or functionality.

HTC TOUCH PRO2

Designed for business professionals, the HTC Touch Pro2 is architected with distinct style and strength while delivering the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone.  Leveraging HTC’s TouchFLO 3D, people-centric communication and Push Internet technology, the Touch Pro2 features a high-resolution 3.6-inch widescreen VGA display for an expanded viewing area and large finger-friendly QWERTY keyboard. With improved battery life, expandable memory, a touch-sensitive zoom bar as well as gravity, proximity and ambient light sensors, the Touch Pro2 is optimized for touch as well as heavy email use.

INTRODUCING HTC STRAIGHT TALK FOR HTC TOUCH PRO2

The new HTC Touch Pro2 leverages voice in a new way to create one of the most sophisticated communication experiences found on a mobile phone.   HTC’s new Straight Talk technology delivers an integrated email, voice and speakerphone experience. Users can transition seamlessly from email to single or multi-party conference calls and turn any location into a conference room.

In addition to the new simplified calling experience, Straight Talk includes an innovative mechanical and acoustic design that features a sophisticated speakerphone experience similar to those found in corporate boardrooms. Straight Talk delivers a high-fidelity voice and sound experience enhanced by asymmetric speakers and advanced noise suppression with full duplex acoustics. When the Touch Pro2 is flipped over it automatically turns into a conference room speakerphone system.

Availability

The HTC Touch Diamond2 will be available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2 2009 with broader global availability coming later in the year.  The Touch Pro2 will be available across major global markets beginning in early summer.

  • Ohh I so agree
  • What is Htorch?
  • i can not wait until this item hits the market. i thought the touch pro was a step up from the original htc touch. this will definately be on my wish list.
  • Its going to be for sprint and its going to come out june the 7th
  • There is no way this phone will get released on June 7th, for Sprint, The Palm Pre is launching on the 6th and all the focus of the company will be supporting this launch. Officially there is still no release date, but if i were to guess it will probably not be out until mid to late summer. The next HTC phone to get released on Sprint is going to be the HTC Snap.
  • Htc used to make computers so thats why they kept the name and the tecnology in the phone has some of their computer software
  • It will be available for tmobile on july 12th, no price but cannot wait until it arrives. Its about time tmobile got back into the business side of phones.
  • Sorry AUGUST 12th, not July 12th
  • does anyone know where they are selling this htc pro 2 ? and when does it come out?

  • I love the HTC Touch Pro 2 just watching the videos but where can I get one? When is it out? I'm with AT&T..but my contract is almost over...so I really want one..bad! By the way what does HTC stand for?
  • Dunno officially when it's coming out yet. HTC used to stand for High Tech Computer. Sorry if that's a let-down. :)
  • when do these phones come out and for how much??? please let me know I really like these phones and I want the touch pro 2 but is it for sprint?? I hope so^__^
  • I wrote to HTC support on the American HTC web site, asking about the U.S. Carriers who might carry the Touch Pro 2... Suprisingly, I got the following relpy, "Thank you for contacting Cingular Support at HTC. We received your email and will do our best to respond within 24 hours." Is this a hint?
  • Yes. You may receive a response within 24 hours. Now whether it answers your question ... Well ...
  • How do you know this?
  • july 11 is the official date & its been released by T-mobile as the "wing 2"
  • Hey genious - Cingular no longer exists. It is now AT&T. Nice try though

  • Yea I heard it was coming to Sprint in May also. My older sister is an employee there and confrimed this for me:0 Cant wait!!!!!!
  • lol may...
  • i so want this phone!! i hope it comes out for atandt cause that's my service! even though its gonna be mad expensive it is well worth it. wish it had flash tho....
  • I just called sprint and currently they do not have a release date.
  • it's being released by t-mobile in July
  • Now everyone knows that the HTC TouchPro 2 will be coming from T-Mobile, because of an FCC filing. Also TmoNews calls the HTC Touch Pro 2 the T-Moble Wing II /Rodium with an expected release date of July 22.
  • Are u saying it wont be on sprint?
  • i wonder when will pro 2 and diamond 2 and max will coming out to usa also i pissed off hd cant come to us what up with that
  • I with you. If you can do everything your computer does with a phone, why not? The price tag is hefty but when u consider how the wireless companies rob u, it's worth it 2 just buy the phone outright. Then u are free to go with any service and even flex or go accounts. The phone itself is worth it, the contracts are not!
  • i am buying a preorder pro2 its 834.99 USD.. should i get it?
i just cant wait til july22 my n70's dying on me now..
i want it NOW and i WANT an unlocked version im tired of the contracts.. and i travel alot too int'lly... good idea???
  • WOW over $800 for a phone. Only a DUMBA$$ would waste that on a phone.
  • Dont be jealous because you cant afford it.
  • I plan on getting the htc touch pro from alltel really soon, my current phone is dying. I'm worried that once i get it. the htc touch pro 2 will come out, then i have to wait a whole 2 years to get it because of my contract. this aggravates me..
  • Most def coming to T-Mobile...in the inventory systems already...
  • how much is the cost going to be with a 2 year contract?
  • Will it come to verizon since they already have the touch pro....it only makes sense that they will also recieve the touch pro 2
  • Will it come to verizon since they already have the touch pro....it only makes sense that they will also recieve the touch pro 2
  • does anybody know if it is coming out for sprint for sure or what and when
  • I also want to know when the touch pro 2 is coming out with sprint.....I hope sooon
  • IT seems to be coming to most mayor carriers in the states. The rumors right now is that Sprint will be the first one. I'm with T-mobile so it will be harder to wait after that. It WORKS for me and so the price is not an issue. I did see 7 go on ebay for 1k ea. 3 weeks ago. I want to get it from my carrier so I have warranty and support. the only hope I have so far is July 22.
  • It will most likely be released by verizon, reason being they already have the HTC pro it would make sense if they release the pro 2 also... early summer!
  • welll the news it would be coming out for almost every major carrier in the world not just the US...So T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon, and ATT will be getting it ...
  • im with telus and they have the touch pro...im thinking on getting it but I found out about the touch pro 2 and fell in love with it...
does any1 know if telus will be carryin the touch pro 2 ???
  • THE TOUCH PRO2 IS COMING TO VERIZON CHECK OUT PHONEARENA .COM THEY ALREADY HAVE IT LISTED... NO CONFIRMED RELEASE DATE PEOPLE!!!!
  • I WISH THEY HURRY UP AND RELEASE IT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MONTHS NOW
  • I REALLY HOPE IT COMES TO SPRINT FIRST THEY ALREADY HAVE THE TOUCH PRO PLEASE RELEASE THE PRO 2
  • C'mon folks...do your research. The FCC has approved a version for all major carriers. Yeah, Verizon has the Pro...therefore the upgrade is the TouchPro 2;Sprint has the Touch...there for the upgrade is the TouchPro 2;AT&T had the ONLY other phone that tilted up(the AT&T Tilt/8925, which is what I have)...and therefore the upgrade will be the TouchPro 2. I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this phone stateside since I first ran across it online about 4 months ago. I just hope that AT&T doesn't mess it up too much to incorporate the SIM card and PTT and all the other stuff. I like it just the way it is...I'm a patient person, but DAMN I want this phone!!!
  • Izit here yet? What's the hold up?
  • The hold up: iPhone is on sale for $99. Nobody would want this if it is more than $250.
  • look people....DO yOUR REASERCH...its coming to T-MOBILE...suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 =p
  • its coming out for Tmobile. Mid July! confirmed! http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/04/22/t-mobile-branded-htc-touch-pro2...
  • I heard the touch pro2 will be running at $800.00 unlocked of course, for me, that's a bit much. I just purchased a high end 4GB RAM (450GB memory) notebook for $700 with loads of other features. I was looking forward to this phone, but the price is so damn high. I look forward to the Nokia N97 in a few months then. I can wait. there is a site that use some good info about the touch pro2, http://www.AllTouchPro2.com i want to hear what your view is on this smart phone.

  • OH MY GOSH!! I HAVE BEEN ANTICIPATING THIS PHONE!! AND I AM SO COMPLETELY OUT OF PATIENCE. I AM GOING TO EUROPE TOMORROW TO GET IT! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! OKAY, SO MAYBE NOT REALLY, BUT COME ON YOU GUYS, TMOBILE IS OFFICIALLY THE WORST SERVICE BEST PHONE CARRYING CARRIER! I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME. JULY IS OFFICIAL! I SHOULD HAVE IT SOON. AND LIKE, THE WING WILL HAVE TO USE IT'S NAME BECAUSE IT'S GOING OUT THE WINDOW! [AGAIN] FRUSTRATING LITTLE THINGS, AGREED? AGREED! BUT OKAY, TOUCH PRO2, TMOBILE IS OFFICIAL. THEY'VE ALREADY STOPPED SELLING THE WING, ITS ONLY ON "DEMAND" MEANING WHAT THEY HAVE IS WHAT IS LEFT.
    WING2/LOVE.
  • The information i have on this phoe says that it will be released for the following:Alltel AT&T Qwest Sprint T-Mobile
US Cellular Verizon, i am a US Cellular customer an our new rebate sheets show that we are going to get it, but our testing is very intense so who knows; but we have had all the other HTC devices an currently have the TOUCH, and TOUCH PRO, so hopefully we get it.
  • I have "lust in my heart" for this phone-and I haven't even held it in my hands yet! I'm on Sprint and can hardly wait for it; I've dumped the palm pre before even giving it a chance just so I can hook up with the touch pro2
  • It is coming out to tmobile on Wednesday the 5th of july 2009 they said $200 w/a 2 year contract! sprint said late fall...
  • I read somewhere that it will be coming out for sprint on September 3rd.
  • Its coming to Sprint on Sept. the 8th...its already hit for T-Mobile and the price is $349 as listed on their website...Telus I belive already has it also.
  • On the messaging icon at the bottom of the screen (HTC TP2), it gives the number of unread sms messages, but if you scroll through the messages too quickly and/or delete them, before the number reduces, the number will stay there. I've gone through the SMS/messaging screen to pick individual messages to check for any bolded/blue highlighted that shows the new message, and confirmed there are none, but the icon's number does not go away. So it looks like I still have new unread texts. I've deleted sent and inbox sms, and deleted the deleted folder. I've turned the phone off/removed the battery, but the icon number is still showing. This has been going on for 9 weeks now. Is there a secret way to make this number go away?

  • I've got the same issue. Deleting all the items won't help. Anyone found a solution?
  • I found this cab on another forum and it worked for me. http://depositfiles.com/en/files/c8l52ofec
