PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds gets cross-play between Xbox One and PS4
Xbox and PS4 players can go head to head.
What you need to know
- PUBG is a popular battle royale game.
- Cross-play allows people on different consoles to pay together.
- PUBG is available in Xbox Game Pass for subscribers.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' latest patch brought a much-anticipated feature: cross-play. Now players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can compete against one another for that coveted chicken dinner.
It's great to see more and more games embracing cross-play functionality, especially because Sony was notably against it for a long time. The floodgates haven't opened quite yet, but the feature is slowly trickling out in the market. While players can matchmake against people on a different console, they are still unable to party up across Xbox One and PS4. That will come with a later update. And you don't need to worry about mouse and keyboard players on PC, because PC players will not be in the matchmaking pool with console players.
The update also brings a new progression system based on survival called Survival Mastery, a new shotgun called the DBS, and additional quality of life improvements and bug fixes.
Battle royale
Cross-play is finally here.
Fortnite and Apex Legends may have taken over the battle royale genre recently, but PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is still going strong. What makes it even better is that it now supports cross-play.
