Reminder: Office 365 deal on the Lumia 640 and 640 XL expires June 30 in the UK

Back at Mobile World Congress when Microsoft announced the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, along for the ride was a free one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal. That offer was never going to last forever and this is a friendly reminder that time is almost up in the UK.

If you don't buy a phone by the time June 30 is done, you can't get the freebie.

Microsoft is also doing its bit to remind everyone through the UK Conversations Twitter account (including jogging our memories), but the good news is that it's only the phone purchase that needs to be done by June 30. You can claim your subscription up until August 14.

The same deadlines may be present in other countries in Europe and further afield, so be sure to check with your local Microsoft Store if in doubt. If you need an assist in claiming the free subscription or some final help deciding if you should buy one of these phones, check the links below for everything you need.

  • I bought the 640 XL last Friday from att in Alaska, and the Office 365 gift app is telling me "Your operator is not participating in this offer".
  • We've heard a few people having issues in the U.S. Can't advise personally I'm afraid since your carriers already confuse me enough. It's tough enough understanding my own countrys!
  • Well hopefully it'll get fixed soon here in the states. I'm practically in my own country here in Alaska anyway lol.
  • Have you had a look in our forums, see if anyone in there has a solution to offer?
  • I did look and the only solution that I kept seeing was putting in a sim card from another country into your phone. But that won't work for me since I don't know anyone out of the US.
  • I dont have a solution to offer. However, I bought the T-Mobile Lumia 640 LTE here is US and I was able to obtain the MS office 365 activation key via the Office 365 Gift app. My understanding the eligibility check is not tied to the operator but rather to the device IMEI and/or devide ID.  Click here to view the screenshot of the email I recieved. Hope this helps.
  • Thank you for the links! Maybe I'll get on att support for help.
  • I was thinking of purchasing a 640 here in the States, but I cannot find it. I see it for $200 unlocked at B&H, just don't know if I want ot spend that kind of money right now (it supports all the carriers here in the US). Anyone know if Amazon might sell it?
  • Free Microsoft Band and I'll buy either of these phone ;)
  • Subscriptions stack as well, got two free years, one from my lynx 7 tablet and one from my 640xl.
  • Oh damn, I need to claim mine then. I didn't bother because I assumed they wouldn't do that!
  • I have ordered a Lumia 640 3 days ago..but it will take another 5-6 days to get it delivered at my place. Will I still get the freebie?
  • Should be fine. So long as the purchase was registered 3 days ago that shouldn't present any issues. If it does, contact Microsoft and I'm sure they'll help out.
  • Bought a Lumia 640xl for my sister on 23rd June.... Downloaded the app but since its a gift for my sister it has no sim card inserted.... Though I have done linking up her hotmail id with the phone.... Should I still be able to activate the offer on 2nd July when she returns....
  • Yup. As in the article, the phone purchase needs to be completed by June 30. You have until August to activate the subscription.
  • No wonder why I cannot find the the phones down under, MS is waiting for the offer to expire.....‼⁉
  • I claimed mine yesterday. It translated into 9 months extension on my existing Office 365 Home subscription. Stacking up with a one year paid subscription plus an HP stream received at Christmas that included Office, I now have my Office 365 covered until September 2017.
  • Yea I hope in the USA , 365 is still available for my new Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE when it arrives from order placed from T-Mobile on the 28th of June , backordered; estimated delivery date 7/7/15
  • Well since Microsoft and/or the US carriers took so darned long making these phones available MS should extend the offer another couple months. Seems kindy mean and cheap to end this before many many people can even get one.
  • Is this one year from purchase, or from activation date?
